    The REAL ABSURB situation that almost reunited The Beatles was at Eric Clapton's wedding to Patti Boyd. George, Paul, and Ringo did jam together at the reception. Why wasnt John & Yoko there? Neither Patti nor Eric invited them, each thinking the other had already done so. Think about it - now THATS absurd!

    I watched the show live and it was a funny skit. It surely would have been the finest TV moment ever, had they shown up. But looking back, I'm glad they didn't. None of them would have had any peace after that, as the pressure to reunite would have been far more incessant. It was nice to learn at the time that John and Paul were actually hanging out together and not bitter enemies.

    They were together more than 7 years, although it was their recording career as the Beatles that lasted a little over 7 years. John, Paul and George had been together since 1957/58 in a group and John started the group in 1956 with various names used and the first was the Quarrymen and with a few other members from the quarrybank school in Liverpool that John went to.

Years ago I read Eric Clapton's book and he tells that on a birthday at his house, Paul, George and Ringo showed up and even had a jam session. I interviewed Paul in 1999 and asked him about this situation. John was the one wanting to do it that night and he called the limo around. Paul said it was him who chickened out and said you know it's late and we should rehearse quickly. John said ok but then Paul decided they should do it some other time. He said, that next time never happened unfortunately. He was actually shocked I had heard about the rumor of the two of them.

    My ex-girlfriend told me ( in 1988 ) that her record producing uncle almost reunited the Beatles. They would play an outdoor gig sometime in 1978, and he had three out of four Beatles signatures to agree to play, but apparently Paul had told him to f*** off over the phone because he was so successful with Wings at the time.. It's true that he was indeed a record producer ( 'Wasn't That a Party' and 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer' ), but whether or not the story she told me was true or not, I'm still not sure.

    There was a made-for-TV movie about this in 2000 called "Two of Us", starring Aidan Quinn as McCartney and Jared Harris as Lennon. It was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who also directed the 1970 Beatles film Let it Be, which morphed into the recent Get Back series. It's a "what if" look at that day where Lennon and McCartney spent the day together and culminates with them watching the show together, and seriously contemplating going down to the studio and doing a few songs together. It ends when Yoko calls, and Lennon decides not to do it.

      @BlackAndWhiteBand ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelharrington75 To be honest I've heard the same thing. When Paul McCartney signed a deal with Columbia in the States in 1979, the contract "allegedly" had a clause which stated he could record with John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr with any record company of their choosing. So in that sense the door was open.
      The only other thing I read was Jack Douglas (Lennon's producer on Double Fantasy) said John wanted Yoko to have a solo career based on the success of "Kiss Kiss Kiss" at Studio 54 and other dance clubs, so that he could possibly record with the other three. They DID have plans to each contribute to Ringo's 1981 album "Stop And Smell The Roses" which technically would be a reunion of sorts.

    • @jamesbyersmusic
      @jamesbyersmusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He was certainly due to record with Ringo in January 1981.
      I've read that he was apparently going to get together with Paul to try and write songs.
      I've also heard that he wanted to stage a Beatle reunion as the ultimate climax to his proposed tour to support Double Fantasy and/or Milk And Honey.
      As nice a daydream that might have been, neither Paul, George, Ringo or Yoko have ever confirmed or even commented on this.
      Jack Douglas has made a few comments saying a Beatle reunion was on the cards, but again this has never been confirmed.

    In 1968-69
    with people like
    Eric Clapton, Nicky Hopkins
    and Billy Preston joining the band in the studio, they had a chance to expand the band into a credible live experience but it was not within them to do that
    “The Concert For Bangla Desh”
    was exactly that…
    as was the
    “The Concert For George”

      …but John, Paul, George, and ringo WERE the Beatles? Every artist has collaborators in the studio, people they work with etc. other than trying and failing to sound smarter that others, what point are you trying to make exactly? The Beatles were a band of 4. They had collaborators. But they were a band of 4. Just them on stage would be a credible reunion. Otherwise let’s make the argument that any band that goes on stage isn’t really the band going on stage because they aren’t using every other musician that helped them in the studio.

      I'm trying to make is that,

      "just them on stage"...
      Bands don't work like that...
      Music doesn't work like that...
      The one time they TRIED
      to get "the band of 4" to
      rehearse/play live
      in January 1969, they failed,
      George quit and it took inviting
      Billy Preston and his presence
      to galvanise them into a credible performance, once,
      on the roof...
      Wanting them to
      have been limited to being
      just a "band of 4" onstage
      and be the performing fleas of yore...
      a 2 guitar, bass, drum quartet playing
      "She Loves You"
      and "Twist and Shout" forever
      would have been very unfair

      On second thoughts... They could also have destroyed their incredible legacies. From the writers of their biographies, it is clear that they were inebriated at the time (Yoko apparently found five empty wine bottles the next day), so they could have made fools of themselves on the show.🤷‍♂

      One other point... If you listen to RINGO and "Goodnight Vienna" they were (almost) Beatles reunions. All four Beatles wrote music for those albums and performed on them. Unfortunately, they were not always together in the same recording studios.

    I was their when they set foot here and I am giving my opinion, it changed the youth foundation and not to the good. Life in America was so much better, post Ww2 till 1963. That’s my opinion of course and I feel the same about the computer age on on youth.

    They almost got together for John's song "I'm the Greatest" on Ringo's self-titled 1973 album. It was supposedly going to happen, but Paul couldn't get permission to come to the US because of drug issues in the past. If this is true, then it tends to vitiate the possibility of this SNL story being true. If Paul couldn't get a Visa to be a part of Ringo's album, how could he have one to be on SNL? I don't know, but Paul DID hang out with Lennon in the seventies.

      The way I heard it was that the producer recorded the three Beatles (John, George and Ringo) and then took the master tapes to a studio where Paul could record his instruments...

  • @OlafProt
    @OlafProt ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting. But the Beatles were four not two, hence Fab Four. This entire premise is borne from the idea that John and Paul went down to the studio. So, no story. But it would’ve been nice to see John and Paul reunited publicly. There’s nothing like the internet to talk utter bollocks.

    Interested? There is a book, in french, published in 2022, about this fantasy: Title: The Beatles are back! Will George Harrison be part of the band?
    With an historic concert in 1972 in a particular place...
    Author is Arnaud Hudelot

  • @jesse2d

    A long drawn out "click-bait" story which uses the John and Paul visit to suggest the entire Beatles were going to reunite. George and Ringo would have to be part of it and they weren't around. But that doesn't matter as the intent is to get views, likes and cash.

    Well John and Paul reuniting had already happened in 1974. "A Toot and a Snore In 74". Listen to that and be glad they didn't. Also it almost happened during the recording of Venus and Mars. John was supposed to go to the studio but when Yoko found out she called John home, ending his "Lost Weekend" with May Pang and destroying the chance.

    This is ridiculous they did not get back together they were burned out they were tired of each other they did not like the music that each wrote they hated maxwell silver hammer they did not want to do Hari Krishna music they had a falling out over the manager that Lennon, Harrison, Starr wanted .They were tired of having no freedom and being harassed by fans .Lennon and yoko were on heroin. They did not want to be sidemen for Paul. They were bored with the whole Beatles thing and the constant questions about when are they getting back together.Sorry it's over and never going to happen ever .
