So, the “why” behind Atlas’ (Fountaine’s) reason for not injecting ALL of the powers originally is because he 1) considered the abuse of ADAM to be a sign of inherent weakness and 2) he saw what ADAM was doing to the people of Rapture, driving them mad and enslaving them to their need for genetic modification. The only reason he took it at the end was because he knew Jack was coming for him and that he honestly stood no chance against Jack with all of Jacks conditioned responses removed. So he takes ‘some’ ADAM, but almost immediately falls prey to the hunger for it. The lure of power was so strong that he became the most hideously addicted splicer in Rapture, proving that Ryan was right. Atlas was a Parasite, and A Man Chooses; A Slave Obeys.

Dude has to gather intel on the secretest of secretest US military black projects, has to train elite soliders, outfitting them with high quality equipment, brings in allies like Ocelot to help, attacks the boat in which it's being held, gets the Metal Gear, and the second he gets it Ocelot just shoots him and takes it for himself.

To Rob, Today I started playing Metal Gear Solid V after it has been sitting in my library for well over a year. When I originally played it I hated it and the mechanics and didn’t wanna pick up the pad again for it. After listening to you mention it every single week for a long long time now, I am glad to say I am playing it again... and I have loved it. The military feel without being obnoxious is gorgeous and satisfying. Being able to send men flying with parachutes is hilarious. Being able to sneak around in a cardboard box makes me feel what you have been talking about for all these years. Even though I always found it annoying when you mentioned Metal Gear Solid, I am now appreciative of that. I am a trophy hunter myself, and this is a platinum I want to earn. Even if that will take over 100 hours. Just wanted to stop on by and let you know. (Don’t be afraid to shove it in Dave’s face)
I think Chairman Drek from the original Ratchet and Clank is a great example of this. Heck, he destroyed several planets to make his own planet, and fought in a huge mech suit while a Lombax and a tiny robot threw a......wrench in his plans 🤣
Borderlands 2 hammerlock’s big game hunt dlc main villain Professor Nakayama comes to mind. All that build up and he falls down the stairs to his death.. the end. Lol

Fontain didn’t use the Adam to begin with because Adam makes you go insane after you’ve used so much, it was only when he was threatened by jack that he decided to use it
How about Dr. Eggman/Robotnik? He always comes up with some plan that never works. Building robots, bases, weapons, racing, and whatnot. Never getting a permanent win.
Kingdom Hearts definitely deserves a mention I mean Xehanort did several decades of planning with multiple copies of himself via Time travel and even used Dream Worlds and Soras like "Aw u evil, u darkness, u no friendship" and just defeats him without really understanding anything.
While my response would go against the theme of this video, I just have to mention Solas from Dragon Age Inquisition. One of my favorite "villains" in gaming. The design, motivations and voice acting is superb and he is definitely one of the best characters designed by Bioware.

I’ve got to tip my hat to the game devs at rocksteady for the amount of detail in Arkham knights various challenges, yes we all complain about the excessive tank missions, but I’ve had the game since 2015 and I’m still only 27.7% through the blasted game. Granted I did leave it to collect dust for several years because I didn’t initially understand the progression of the game, but when I did come back to it, I’m loving it.
Prince Uldren, Destiny 2. Survives prison,Teams up with a necromancer, murders Cayde-6 for some vague plan of domination only to be eaten by a giant eyeball pretending to be his sister.
What's worse than doing all the Riddler missions is just ignoring them. Can you imagine not only setting all that stuff up, but just having it ignored as well? Riddler may "act" like he won, but everything he does is for attention.

One group who totally went through it all for nothing were the Glukins from Abe’s Oddesy/Exodus. They spent ages enslaving Mudakins, hiring slips, training dogs, building up companies, putting workers in the mines, wiping out whole specifies and destroying ancient temples, all to be destroyed by one Modakin. That is on par with MacDonalds and Coca Cola falling in close succession. The other on my list would be Lady Kagami and the forces of the Burning DSawn from ‘Tenchu 2; Brth of the Stealth Assassins”. She spent years rallying people to her cause, building the Fire Demon (a massive ship about the size of a Japanese castle, much like Osaka castle mentioned earlier), and all the other work she did to gain territory and power, all to be brought down in a sword fight with Rikimaru and have her ship blown up within 24 hours of setting sail.
If you read the Eurogamer article on the creation of Bioshock, it almost sounds a bit like Ken Levine ended up a bit being a "villain" who tried to hard. Of course it was 5 am and I'd just read several whole articles just before it but I did get that feeling.

Good one, with all the laughing and fun. The end editing was hilarious! Thinking about villains, in HZ:D if Hades simply did nothing about Aloy, he most likely could have finished his mission to destroy the world without any opposing him. Somehow like in the Greek tragedies where trying to prevent the prophecy actually makes it happen.
Putting aside that there are in-game explanations for how Riddler gets to build that stuff. If they make a sequel/continuation(not a prequel though) you just know that the Riddler challenges will incorporate drones.
My villain would probably be either Handsome Jack since he had to raise a Siren daughter which I mean there's 6 in existence at any given point his odds alone to get a daughter like that were possible in itself than he needed to blow through resources to actually condition Angel steal the vault key from tannis which apparently any Borderlands villain can do capture another Siren and finally awaken the warrior just to have four people kill it in a matter of minutes or Nakyama from the same game considering how much time and effort it took him to try and clone jack and this isn't considering the Jack AI in this either just for again to have four people take it apart in the course of an hour or two
Not from gaming but... Wacky Races, Dastardly and Mutley. It even as a child frustrated me no end how they would zoom ahead and STOP to set up traps... JUST KEEP GOING AND YOU'LL WIN!
Instantly thought of Rodrigo Borgia from Assassin's Creed. The guy spends decades planning everything so meticulously, finally ending up as the Pope, just to get both Pieces of Eden to open the Vault. Only for Ezio to repeatedly punch him in the face and then to be told he's not even worth killing. Then in Brotherhood, after having raised his son to be just as ruthless as he was, literally holding onto power by the skin of his fingertips as Ezio completely strips away his and his son's powerbases, ends up being killed by Cesare anyway.
Rob and Nath presented their entry masterfully funny this week. I personally think the Riddler wins because it is just preposterous, at least every other villain gained something.
Honestly…since I am a hopeless -ria Tales game fangirl now (thanks Rob), I gotta go with Artorius Collbrande from Tales of Berseria. I don't currently have the energy to explain why, but anyone who's played through the game knows what I mean. Dude literally had the whole world kissing his feet and tried to harness the power of a god - and damn near succeeded! - only for his sister-in-law to stab him with his own sword and seal said god away. Some might say Melchior is the true villain and Artorius was just a pawn, but…you know…semantics. :P
Would also like to see a spin-off game like Mario-maker or Marvel Puzzle Quest where you are The Riddler trying to make crazy puzzles out of other villains abandoned lairs.
My answer to Rob's question is that Fontaine was sadistic, he wanted Ryan to realize just how badly Fontaine beat him and that he was even smarter than Ryan himself. It was meant to break Ryan and I believe it did, Ryan was beaten and he resigned himself to that fact and let Jack kill him.
I'm so glad he brought up the Riddler because in Knight after you save Selena you can literally just avoid fighting Riddler since he waits for you to get the trophies. I literally just left him in his pit
Kali Angel from Gravity Rush 2. Given powers by her mad scientist father figure Dr. Brahman, she's looking for her sister who was claimed by a black hole two years earlier. She does eventually find her, but her sister eventually rejects her, leading Kali to let her powers overwhelm her and mutate her into a giant mass of flesh a la Akira, sitting atop the tallest building in Hekseville. Her defeat at the hands of Kat and friends concludes act two of the game.
NoNameJustWords see now that’s a good question, obviously from Final Fantasy you have Sephiroth, King Gestahl from 6, Garland from 9, Seymour. While from Metal Gear, you’ve got Liquid, Solidus, Volgin, I’m not sure who else, not as big of a Metal Gear fan

As for what Villain went to mountains of trouble only to end up with nothing? Dr. M from Sly 3: Honor among Thieves. The guy spends Who knows how much money to buy the island the Cooper Vault is on, and then spends DECADES worth of time and resources trying to break into the Vault. Then Sly shows up, opens the door, and kills Dr. M. Total waste.
While watching these videos after the addition of Elle, I've often thought "She looks very familliar...." so, there I was, watching some alternative cinema when a young lady called Autumn Falls (look her up, you won't regret it) comes on screen and stone me if she isn't a younger dopplebanger of our Elle. I think the last 30 or so riddler trophies all involve the robots and riddler getting increasingly incensed that batman has hacked the robots, believing that the robots are choosing to betray him over the fact that Batman has managed to hack the control program.
you are wrong on the bioshock line on what happened. fontaine didn't even know about the keyword "would you kindly" until elizabeth told him it. yes elizabeth from bioshock infinite
I can actually answer Robs question about why Fontaine didn’t load himself up with ADAM and do everything he programmed Jack to do. It’s because he (Fontaine) saw the adverse effects ADAM had on the population of Rapture, turning its citizens into violent, mutated drug addicts. He never touched a drop because he didn’t want to lose himself to that particular monkey. But then, at the end, when Jack is closing in, Fontaine realizes that if he’s gonna have any shot of surviving, he has to fight plasmids with plasmids, and juices himself up. And takes such a big dose he INSTANTLY falls prey to the splicer mutations.
The raiders in Nuka World who built the gauntlet. Unless you are playing on survival and try to go through way to earl of a level, you can basically just stroll through the whole thing breaking all their shooty things!

All this time we tought that Xehanort was the big bad guy but he never was,all this time Xehanort was only a pawn into the Luxu plan and now the current goal of Luxu is bring back the Master of Masters,the person that tricked everyone too.

One group who totally went through it all for nothing were the Glukins from Abe’s Oddesy/Exodus. They spent ages enslaving Mudakins, hiring slips, training dogs, building up companies, putting workers in the mines, wiping out whole specifies and destroying ancient temples, all to be destroyed by one Modakin. That is on par with MacDonalds and Coca Cola falling in close succession.
The other on my list would be Lady Kagami and the forces of the Burning DSawn from ‘Tenchu 2; Brth of the Stealth Assassins”. She spent years rallying people to her cause, building the Fire Demon (a massive ship about the size of a Japanese castle, much like Osaka castle mentioned earlier), and all the other work she did to gain territory and power, all to be brought down in a sword fight with Rikimaru and have her ship blown up within 24 hours of setting sail.

If you read the Eurogamer article on the creation of Bioshock, it almost sounds a bit like Ken Levine ended up a bit being a "villain" who tried to hard. Of course it was 5 am and I'd just read several whole articles just before it but I did get that feeling.

Thinking about villains, in HZ:D if Hades simply did nothing about Aloy, he most likely could have finished his mission to destroy the world without any opposing him. Somehow like in the Greek tragedies where trying to prevent the prophecy actually makes it happen.
basically every villain in rpgs because if people like me are playing we'd all get to the final boss like 50 levels above the recommended level
Putting aside that there are in-game explanations for how Riddler gets to build that stuff. If they make a sequel/continuation(not a prequel though) you just know that the Riddler challenges will incorporate drones.
My villain would probably be either Handsome Jack since he had to raise a Siren daughter which I mean there's 6 in existence at any given point his odds alone to get a daughter like that were possible in itself than he needed to blow through resources to actually condition Angel steal the vault key from tannis which apparently any Borderlands villain can do capture another Siren and finally awaken the warrior just to have four people kill it in a matter of minutes or Nakyama from the same game considering how much time and effort it took him to try and clone jack and this isn't considering the Jack AI in this either just for again to have four people take it apart in the course of an hour or two
Not from gaming but... Wacky Races, Dastardly and Mutley. It even as a child frustrated me no end how they would zoom ahead and STOP to set up traps... JUST KEEP GOING AND YOU'LL WIN!

Instantly thought of Rodrigo Borgia from Assassin's Creed. The guy spends decades planning everything so meticulously, finally ending up as the Pope, just to get both Pieces of Eden to open the Vault. Only for Ezio to repeatedly punch him in the face and then to be told he's not even worth killing. Then in Brotherhood, after having raised his son to be just as ruthless as he was, literally holding onto power by the skin of his fingertips as Ezio completely strips away his and his son's powerbases, ends up being killed by Cesare anyway.

Rob and Nath presented their entry masterfully funny this week. I personally think the Riddler wins because it is just preposterous, at least every other villain gained something.
That would make for a pretty unique game. Playing as a villain, coming up with crazy schemes and having other people come along and try to beat it.

Honestly…since I am a hopeless -ria Tales game fangirl now (thanks Rob), I gotta go with Artorius Collbrande from Tales of Berseria. I don't currently have the energy to explain why, but anyone who's played through the game knows what I mean. Dude literally had the whole world kissing his feet and tried to harness the power of a god - and damn near succeeded! - only for his sister-in-law to stab him with his own sword and seal said god away. Some might say Melchior is the true villain and Artorius was just a pawn, but…you know…semantics. :P
I never used to watch these but Rosie and Elle kinda make them more entertaining to me.
Would also like to see a spin-off game like Mario-maker or Marvel Puzzle Quest where you are The Riddler trying to make crazy puzzles out of other villains abandoned lairs.
My answer to Rob's question is that Fontaine was sadistic, he wanted Ryan to realize just how badly Fontaine beat him and that he was even smarter than Ryan himself. It was meant to break Ryan and I believe it did, Ryan was beaten and he resigned himself to that fact and let Jack kill him.

I'm so glad he brought up the Riddler because in Knight after you save Selena you can literally just avoid fighting Riddler since he waits for you to get the trophies. I literally just left him in his pit
there's an alternate ending where Bats can get the GCPD to arrest Riddler, and not directly confront him. :D
Kali Angel from Gravity Rush 2. Given powers by her mad scientist father figure Dr. Brahman, she's looking for her sister who was claimed by a black hole two years earlier. She does eventually find her, but her sister eventually rejects her, leading Kali to let her powers overwhelm her and mutate her into a giant mass of flesh a la Akira, sitting atop the tallest building in Hekseville. Her defeat at the hands of Kat and friends concludes act two of the game.

The guy spends Who knows how much money to buy the island the Cooper Vault is on, and then spends DECADES worth of time and resources trying to break into the Vault. Then Sly shows up, opens the door, and kills Dr. M.

I think the last 30 or so riddler trophies all involve the robots and riddler getting increasingly incensed that batman has hacked the robots, believing that the robots are choosing to betray him over the fact that Batman has managed to hack the control program.

I can actually answer Robs question about why Fontaine didn’t load himself up with ADAM and do everything he programmed Jack to do. It’s because he (Fontaine) saw the adverse effects ADAM had on the population of Rapture, turning its citizens into violent, mutated drug addicts. He never touched a drop because he didn’t want to lose himself to that particular monkey. But then, at the end, when Jack is closing in, Fontaine realizes that if he’s gonna have any shot of surviving, he has to fight plasmids with plasmids, and juices himself up. And takes such a big dose he INSTANTLY falls prey to the splicer mutations.
I mean, there isn't really any sunlight ABOVE ground in Gotham.
It's weird, canonically Gotham is right next door to bright and sunny Metropolis too.

The raiders in Nuka World who built the gauntlet. Unless you are playing on survival and try to go through way to earl of a level, you can basically just stroll through the whole thing breaking all their shooty things!
