  • A rare, violent EF-4 tornado tracked through fields near Dalton, MN one year ago today. On July 8th, 2020 this tornado spawned from an explosive supercell that developed near a triple point around 5:00pm. It was a slow-moving tornado with wind speeds up to 170mph, remaining on the ground for 9 miles over the span of 31 minutes. While it mostly scarred the fields, it did destroy a machine shop and a home. Unfortunately, there were 2 injuries and 1 fatality. Storm spotters and chasers provided timely reports to the National Weather Service, which allowed effective tornado warnings to be issued for local residents.
    This video is what I experienced on July 8th, 2020. This was one of the most memorable chases of my 20 years documenting severe weather.
    At the end of this video, I have included a review of the stats on this tornado, some forecasting info from a chasers perspective and insights about decisions made and lessons learned on this chase. So, stay tuned after the action if you want to learn a little more about this historic event.
    Enjoy the video.

    This has to be hands-down THE best tornado chase video I have ever seen!!! Besides the amazing footage, l especially liked the way you and Brad worked together. The other chasers I've watched are screaming and cussing at each other the whole time. It is so ridiculous that I have to stop watching video. Thank so much you so much!!

    Hugely enjoyable video. I do avoid chasers who seem to yell and scream things like “Run! Run!” and often seem in harms way. This, however, is ART !!!

    The fact this is an EF4 and the El Reno tornado was an EF3 makes me think the the EF rating system is useless.

    • @humansrants1694
      @humansrants1694 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The El Reno had a vortex that had winds measured in the EF5 range for a while that didn't hit any structures but because it's only concluded on the damage found it was rated EF3.

    • @Douglas_I
      @Douglas_I 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@humansrants1694 what's the point of the system though? To know afterwards how dangerous a tornado is? I would have definitely taken my chances with this one before El Reno. Research purposes aside, the system is useless.

    Some amazing footage in this. I wish you could crop it up so that those that want just the footage can get to that without the weather data. It is a lot to digest it all, even though some of it is interesting, but I’d still not like to hear about people meeting their demise.

    Yeah real great footage. Unless you get hurt . idk the algorythm dropped this on me. I normaly dont watch this since the barn i was in took a hit. When i was 12. A 8 inche main beam hit my head. To each hisvown i guess. But try not to sound so damn happy when you see one. You reported it but didny know the direction it was moving. The barn i was in dissapeared along with 60 milking cows. I was the only thing left alive. A 12 yr old girl. If you do it to report them. I hope youve gotten better.

    I’m sorry but the camera work is bad. And why does she need to ask Brad’s permission to do anything? Can I take a photo? Can I stop now? What should I do now Brad? Does Brad decide what happens all the time? It sounds like the videographer knows her stuff really, really well. She is very collegiate with Brad so maybe she’s just being polite but I think she would have gotten just as good footage if she’d been on her own. All in all the whole thing is very impressive, especially with those explanations of the scientific data and the storm chasing techniques. The amount of knowledge and experience that is behind the scenes and often off camera is an absolute eye opener and frankly is just as interesting. This is the first time I’ve ever seen that side of things and it deserves kudos for that alone, but added together with the chase itself makes it just stand out and above all the other stuff on the subject. This formula could be a game changer and already comes across as professional and educational.
