    Hello
    I do the same as you show but when I am moving fpln into G3X plan is showing. But it is not moving to GTN650 and is not appearing. Why is it happening?

    Hi, I have a G3x and GTN650 x I. It looks like my system has not been set correctly in the configuration mode. Can you please advise on what I need to change the configuration setting to enable cross fill.

    Is the behavior any different with a GNX 375 vs the GTN 650?

    • @MidwestPanels

      No, at last test it works the same way.

    Very informative thank you. I was wondering if you are receiving an external flight plan from the GTN can you initiate a VNAV from the G3X or you need to go back to the GTN? Thanks I'll be in touch soon I'm going to start a Sling build.

    • @MidwestPanels

      Hi, Michael. VNAV must be initiated from the GTN. Keep in mind that in latest software versions, VNAV on the GTN is much different than the G3X’s VNAV or the older VCALC on the GTN. VNAV is now more about IFR arrival and departure procedures than anything else.

    Does this work any different with at 430W navigator? I have a 172M w 430w that I teach in. From your demo, it would seem I could install the g3x and tech vfr using tradition steam gauge setting (assume this is configurable prior to flight?) or glass cockpit w tape setting and 80% of instruction would be using internal gps on G3x. For instrument, I could use the 430w to feed the G3x. Can I control coms on my 430w using G3x? I need to purchase a 2nd com if I upgrade as well. Be nice to control com 1 and 2 of G3x screen. Bottom line, can I avoid buying a new gtn gnc navigator and get all the functionality. Great videos!

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No unfortunately it does not work the same. You only get the transfer from the GNS to the G3X and CDI information.

    Thanks for the video. Can you explain how the data gets from the ipad to the g3x? Is that wifi or bluetooth? Also, how does the data get from the g3x to the GTN? Is that over canbus?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The iPad connects to the G3X via bluetooth and the G3X transfers to the GTN over RS232

  • @johnpinella1333
    @johnpinella1333 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can all of this be done using Garmin Pilot (as opposed to Foreflight) on the ipad?

    • @johnpinella1333
      @johnpinella1333 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uh, I missed your last sentence, somehow, in which you said, yes, you can do the same thing in Garmin Pilot.

    Does this also apply to a GTN 625?

  • @stevewhite1707
    @stevewhite1707 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried this and it does not work on my installation. As soon as I go to external on my G3X, the flight plan becomes whatever is in the GTN. How are your devices interconnected? Mine are through the 429 link to the CANBUS.

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be sure you have "External Flight Plan" enabled on the GTN. You have to go into configuration mode on the GTN, the go to Setup - Main System, scroll to the bottom, should be second option from the bottom. If you do not see it, be sure to update the GTN software.

    • @stevewhite1707

      @@MidwestPanels That got me closer, thank you, but I am still getting an error and I am working with Garmin on the problem. Install says it's pilot ops and pilot ops says it's install. So much for finger pointing. Thanks again for putting me on to this.

  • @Skepilot

    You can send the flight plan from iPad to the panel via Bluetooth - no need to have Flight Stream, right?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct, you can send it to the G3X which in turn will send it to the GTN with out the use of a Flight Stream. Flight Stream is only needed when the GTN is standalone.

    • @Skepilot
      @Skepilot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MidwestPanels Another question, if you don't mind. If you change the flight plan on your panel (G3X or GNX), does the updated route automatically sync to your iPad? Is the answer the same whether using Garmin Pilot or ForeFlight?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skepilot Not automatically, you have to manually transfer it, but it is rather easy to do and this is the same for either product.

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skepilot update to the last question, I just tested it with the new updates and it now will do the automatic transfer to the iPad. It will prompt you the first time, but once you switch back to external GPS, it pushes the uodate

    Why do you need a GTN? Cant the G3x do everything the GTN can do?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You still need the GTN to Load and Activate approaches as it is the Certified IFR navigator.

  • @Captndarty
    @Captndarty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Seems clumsy and cluttered. The G3 X should know where you are to give you a starting point and an ending point and it should be able to perfectly slave to the GTN or vice versa without flip-flopping between internal or external.

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It makes sense that the system wants to know which GPS you want to use. It has no way of knowing unless you tell it so the need to select which one you want is necessary.

    • @Captndarty
      @Captndarty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MidwestPanels Correct I get that but You aught to be able to use the G3X as a full-time data entry while being slaved to the GTN for navigation. If you hit direct to on the G3 X and you’re using an external source shouldn’t it link to the external source and go direct to?

    • @MidwestPanels
      @MidwestPanels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Captndarty but you just as easily do it on the GTN so in our opinion it’s not that big of a deal, however we do know it bothers some that it’s that way.

      @ericbuhrendorf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MidwestPanels i think it’s nice of you to be positive about the work around but the feedback loop from the community is clearly saying this isn’t intuitive enough. I agree with the others that if your selected to external then the Dto should work for the GTN. This shouldn’t cause debate about workarounds, everyone should just nod in agreement because it makes sense. Garmin, patch this in the next firmware and we can move on.
