I was in Washington in April with the advocacy effort organized by the American Coalition for Ukraine. One of our advocates from Vance's district had a scheduled meeting. Vance was so mean and rude to her, and so direct about his opposition to Ukraine that she left emotionally shaken. Vance will oppose Ukraine 100%. Trump already does, and his selecting Vance as VP just demonstrates that Trump would be terrible for Ukraine.

I wouldn't say that Trump opposes Ukraine 100% -- he clearly favors Russia, but he also ended up green-lighting the vital, long-delayed $60B aid package that they finally passed a few months ago... Vance seems to easily "adapt" his message, so his views are not strongly held, and should he get elected he will be lobbied non-stop by a number of agencies and given intelligence briefings that will prove to him that Russia/Putin are doing all they can to damage/destroy us

It is amazing and amusing to hear the political naivite of the Telegraph when it comes to American politics. Who is J. D. Vance? He is simply an acolyte (less charitably, toady or serf) and channel to Peter Theil, and thus to all the tech bros who are now the richest men in the world. This group of technocratic libertarian fascists (not a contradiction) would very much like to buy the election, and in a post-Citizens United world, they very well might. In the first twenty four hours already over $200 million dollars of campaign funds have been raised from the tech bros ... that we know of. J.D. Vance's policy portfolio is irrelevant. Trump rules in pure self interest as he reads the room, and is capable of switching in an instant of that's where his instincts tell him that power lies. Further, Trump is sufficiently corrupt and in enough legal trouble to want as much cash as he can get. The only constituency that J.D. Vance brings is his buddies, and that is all that is wanted.
I vaugely remember some other occasion where a group of industrialists backed an authoritarian narcissist, sometime in the 30's. I wonder how that turned out.
