  • Ever heard of Turkish Delight? You know, that British dessert made famous by Edmund in his adventures in Narnia... It has nothing to do with these birds. Except for the fact that the Sultan was bred for the enjoyment of the sultans of Turkey making the journey to England in the 1850s. They're definitely not a production breed, and such are listed as critical by the Livestock Conservancy. These birds will grace you with personality, feathers galore, as many as 5 eggs per week, and a conversation starter that will be hard to beat.
    Comb Style: V-Comb
    Broodiness: No
    Egg Size: Medium
    Egg Color: White
    Cold Tolerant: Not really
    Heat Tolerant: Definitely!
    Free Range: Nah...
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. When you're trying to identify that unidentified chicken breed the pictures from a Google search only go so far... These videos are designed specifically to give you a good long look at specific chicken breeds at different ages to help you identify your mystery chicken (or your neighbors)! Don't forget to subscribe. We add new videos with new breeds all the time. Thanks for watching!

I had one as an esa. She also was companion for my cross beaked Americana. These birds are very good to put with your disabled birds. They also will match pitches with you. They love watching tv with you and they can forage as long as you are standing right there to keep preditors away. If you let them sand bathe make sure it is light colored play sand as they get their feathers stained very easily. The other thing is that if you do get a sultan that starts laying too much you will probably lose them like I lost my dear little Sophia. They are the smallest standard sized chicken in the world so being only 2 and a half to three and a half pounds really watch it if they start laying more than four eggs. Sophia was laying 5 to seven a week and I could not get her to stop. She never was able to moult once she got her adult feathers and she layed for eight months straight before it killed her no matter what I did I could not get her to stop.
