    Thanks for that. Not specific to search, but could they work out a way to let us organise photos in the gallery our way instead of by date added. A friend and I are trying to identify people in some photos and it would be really handy to be able to line them up chronologically as the photos were taken to work out who could, or could not, have been in certain photos. It would also mean we could group photos of people together and images of documents etc together. If the geniuses can do it for search, they should be able to do it for galleries too? Maybe? Hope lives eternal. Thanks again.

    The new edit option is awful. It’s tiny and it doesn’t make sense to me to go back to the top to click the edit button. The edit button wasn’t only at the bottom before, it was just below the sliders. That was perfect to me.

    Question for @Ancestry! What is the oldest record(s) in all of Ancestry's databases? Just curious!

  • @khamilton7537
    @khamilton7537 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello Crista, Are the hints added as the new databases are added? Also, many French and German person and place names include dashes, umlauts and other odd bits of punctuation that don't occur in English. I have tried to purge my information of these, is this the best way to deal with these? What about abbreviations? What about dates in languages other than English? Also, I come across persons who have multiple marriage dates to the same person, what's with that? I have ancestors in the Alsace region and sometimes don't know whether searching France or Germany or both is the best way to deal with these? Can you help with some of these questions?

    Correction: Puerto Rico does NOT have Counties or Municipalities. We have Barrios and Pueblos. Barrios are a section within the same Pueblo/Town and we also do not have Double names. Example San Juan County, San Juan, San Juan Puerto Rico or Comerio Municipality, Comerio, Comerio, Puerto Rico is TOTALLY incorrect. It is simply San Juan, Puerto Rico or Comerio, Puerto Rico. This has become a real Issue when searching for Hispanic records for Puerto Rico. Most people have no clue about this issue but I do and it keeps you out of searches if you do not edit this issue which is another pain as one has to be constantly editing this feature.

    At 19:40 talking about high school photos of our grandparents, etc. Why is ancestry publishing pictures of me in high school in 1970???? NOT MY GRANDPARENTS. My classmates and I are STILL ALIVE. When I hit the search button for an individual then choose one of the results and accept the record, it used to have a box pop up in the bottom right corner that could be clicked to go directly back to the page of search results. Now, the box that pops up after acceptance can only be clicked to go to that database. If you are working all day on your tree, that time adds up. Am I missing something? Doing something wrong?

    I have some questions,
    how do I have some DNA matches my parents don't? or high cM matches than them!
    When are we getting a segment browser? or other DNA tools.

    • @AncestryUS
      @AncestryUS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, thank you for the question. This is most likely a case of matches that have been hidden. Members can hide matches so that they no longer appear on their DNA match list.
      We will pass your suggestion of a segment browser on to the proper teams as feedback.

    • @AncestryUS
      @AncestryUS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Robyn, thanks so much for stopping by! We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your valued feedback with us regarding our Communities feature. We'd love to share with you a bit more about how Communities work, and why this might be the case. Once we identify a community of people who are connected through DNA, we look for patterns in family trees linked to AncestryDNA tests to help us identify who the group consists of. We find groups of people in the AncestryDNA network who share more matches with each other than with people in other parts of the network and set that group apart as a community. To find out where the community came from, we search the linked family trees of people in the community.
      Our reference panel includes samples from many world regions, but not from every country or population. Similarly, we have identified hundreds of communities, but only for areas where we have enough data.
      There are some other reasons a region might not appear in your DNA Story. For regions of the world like Europe, where the population is very admixed, it can be difficult to distinguish one population from another through DNA testing. And because of the random nature of DNA inheritance, you may not have inherited DNA markers that we identify with a particular region, even when your ancestors lived there.
      Because you only get communities that you have a strong DNA relationship to, the more generations that separate you from the population a community ties back to, the less likely it is that you’ll connect. It’s also more likely that you’ll connect to a population that, for example, both your parents have descended from, than to a population that only one of your grandparents is from.
      As we gather more samples and our database grows, we'll be able to add more regions and communities.
      We'd invite you to learn more about Communities, should you be interested in doing so, here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/DNA-Genetic-Communities
      We hope this is helpful to you Robyn, and wish you a wonderful day!

      @AncestryUS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Michael! Thanks for checking out October's 🎃 news and events. We know from personal experience how annoying a duplicate can be and stand ready to support you in anyway we can.
      Rest assured that several solutions exist to help merge or remove a duplicate. Although, we have to tread carefully when carrying out such tasks with our tree, there should be no need to start your tree from scratch to repair such an issue. It is also important to note that although a person or branch may be removed from your tree in error - it is still possible to view behind the veil by using our tree search tool (unless deleted) . This means that even if we lose track of a person or branch, we can always add them back into the tree in just a few clicks.
      We would first suggest reviewing this tailored guide support.ancestry.com/s/article/Fixing-Relationships-in-Trees and to then reach out to our team here support.ancestry.com/s/contactsupport should this issue continue to haunt your family tree.👻
      We hope this helps and wish you all the very best for National Family History month!🌳

    After doing the DNA and proving that I had ZERO % Native American, I was floored with what I found.
    As one of many Game of Thrones fans, it never dawned on me to watch the opening credits for the first two seasons. Also, I am not one who gets involved in a character then I learn all I can about the actor. However, one evening, I was watching GoT and noticed a name that I had come across while researching on Ancestry. It just so happened to be the name of one of my favorite characters from the show.
    Kit Harington has a version of my surname, Herrington. We are both related to Sir John Harington (Harrington) who invented the first flushable toilet. I would love to know the actual relation with Kit through Sir John Harington.
    And the hits keep on coming. While watching The Old Kingdom, some of the character names sounded familiar. So I searched and found the name Ethrelreda. Lady Isabella Ethelreda Markham. Wondering if any connection to Alfred the Great.
    I have Swedish and Denmark blood, so the twists are happening...
    PLEASE HELP.

      Crista, does Ancestry combine DNA results with family tree data a member enters to determine those “dotted-line bullseyes”? Reason for question: I initially listed my g-father’s adopted mother’s origins as North Uist in the Outer Hebrides which turned out to be one of the “dotted-line bullseyes.” Was that designation influenced by my errant entry? Issue of importance goes to reliability of those bullseyes. Thanks. You’re very good at representing Ancestry!

    I hope the search filter category results have been made consistent with the card catalogue category contents as i noticed in the past that looking at 'categories' would contain data sets that didn't appear in the sets indicated in the card catalogue filter list by the same name. I hope it also stops providing results that should have been excluded by the search criteria. eg i look for events in a specific area but I get results outside that area , I choose to look at UK only data sets but get non uk results. If it could only flag results I've already looked at that day would be good too and not return to the start of the list after i looked at a result. Have they fixed the fault in dna link list where you lose the scroll bar after looking at a number of linked customers trees.

    • @AncestryUS
      @AncestryUS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, thanks for stopping by. Ancestry’s primary goal is to develop the best solutions for our customers’ research challenges and enable the most enriching discoveries possible. We have created tools that allow users to make more accurate, relevant discoveries about how they are connected to their DNA Matches. We’re combining the unique power of records and family trees with the latest innovations in DNA science to give customers more ways to connect to their family story than ever before through products like ThruLines, New and Improved Matches and MyTreeTags that enable more efficient discovery than with a chromosome browser all while maintaining privacy. We will continue to explore new innovations that enable discoveries and protect customers’ privacy.
      Because of the way DNA is inherited/passed down from generation to generation, looking at chromosomal data to deduce how you are related to someone is not as straight-forward as a chromosome browser would lead customers to believe. As you can imagine, inheritance and genetics is an evolved and very complex field. Because we’re the first to be able to research genetic inheritance in the context of well-sourced pedigrees we are also the first to understand the validity and accuracy of the segment data. We would like to fully understand the details around each segment before making it fully available to the public.

      @AncestryUS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robyn! Thank you for stopping by to share your thoughts with us. We hope you learned lots of valuable information in the video to put to good use in your own research. We know that DNA results can provide unexpected results and are always ready to help out in anyway we can.
      Although, some features such as Thrulines are based on information contained in you and your matches linked family trees, your ethnicity regions are in no way defined by what information is inputted into your tree. In fact, testing is carried out entirely anonymously in order to protect each participants privacy. We will now do our best to outline briefly how different elements of an ethnicity estimate are calculated which we hope will provide greater clarity.
      Our ethnicity estimate provides a glimpse into our deep past honing in on the last 500 -1000 years for distant origins represented by your 'regions' and 50- 300 years ago for more recent origins reflected in your 'communities'. These two aspects of your report are calculated differently and you can learn more here support.ancestry.com/s/article/Key-Differences-Between-Ethnicity-and-Communities .
      The 'regions' provided in your estimate are based on our reference panel and are shown in your report with solid-circle icons. The regions provided to you are based on comparing the DNA found within your sample with our reference panel of living people with established roots in a given area. On the other hand, our communities do not have a percentage assigned to them and are signified by a circle surrounded by a dotted line within your estimate. These communities are identified by analysing genetic connections between groups of AncestryDNA members, public family trees, ethnicity data, and historical records to work out where this group of people lived over time. We hope this helps but please call on our team anytime you need us. 🌳

      @@AncestryUS Mostly the search tweaks, toggle for records and category, and the new image filters. Just smoother and easier. And, yes, after all of these decades, I did not know about the keyboard shortcuts ;)
      Very nice stuff!
      Not so thrilled with the new ethnicity estimates, but that is not Ancestry's fault! Depends on how mixed-up-white-bread you are ;) The communities hit much closer, and are relevant. My mother does not appear on mine, so I just look at my half-sis's where they do. You hit my bro-in-law's on the head.
      Ethnicities are so dependent on the reference populations, and people find different DNA sites work better for their own mix, probably because they are a bit more geographically focused.
