Having played the mission multiple times, I do have some insights as to why the split happened. Jin, having acted as the Ghost for two acts was seeing the cracks in Lord Shimura's straightforward methods. In the first two gates, when everyone fought conventionally, dozens of footsoldiers from Yarikawa and from Clan Oga kept dying whenever they breached them. The third gate however, when Jin did his infamous Ghost terror tactics with poisoning and decapitating the Mongol General from behind, nobody died... until the hwacha. Then Jin captured the hwacha and covered the Japanese army to help them safely breach the fourth gate. At the fifth gate, the Mongols were on the back foot so there were no hard resistance until they pulled back across the bridge. After the explosive trap, scores of soldiers that Jin painstakingly gathered were dead, and Lord Shimura was planning to repeat the same strategy that got them killed. That was when Jin started saying enough was enough.
The beginning part with “way of the samurai” is absolutely amazing. I searched up ‘Dokkoisho’ and found a old folk song that repeated “Soran! Soran!” And “Dokkoisho! Dokkoisho!”. If I did my research correctly it was a chant for fisherman to work harder, ‘dokkoisho’ being like ‘heave-ho!’ In english. During regular intervals of the dance, the words "Dokkoisho! Dokkoisho!" and "Soran! Soran!" are called. Those words were used in the past to encourage the fisherman during their work. Fitting since they had to carry a ram to open the gate in the first phase.
Thanks for posting this. Is basically a medley of all the battle themes, which is pretty cool for "The fate of Tsushima" that I personally consider the best part of the game.
Nah, both are uniquely awesome in their own way. Imo, the Ghost of Yarikawa is the most iconic of the missions. If I want to introduce someone to what Ghost of Tsushima is, I'd show them that mission
