No praise I could offer would do justice to this cover. You captured the licks perfectly but more than that you captured the very essence of John's spirit and sensibilities as a drummer. Simply amazing sir. I applaud you
As a " vintage " Door's fan, ( saw them for my 16th birthday in 69 ) I was majorly impressed with your drumming. Always have been a fan of John Densmore who I believe is overlooked in the annals of great drummer's. Bravo 👏👏👏
Amazing! Super neat playing. You squeezed out every possible articulation from this ride cymbal. I learnt from watching yours. I do similar but with the hihat.
Nice cover and everything fits....a vintage Slingerland kit with no reso heads on toms and the tuning and the sound in general fits perfect for The Doors. Also the cymbals sound nice and vintage. Which Cymbals did you use and which batter heads? Thanks and all the best.
@@ColinWilliamsDrums thanks for answering. I know that Densmore used a Ludwig Downbeat kit in Mod Orange in sizes...20x14, 12x8 and 14x14 and a 14x5 Supra Phonic snare. Do you know which cymbals he used back in the day? I don't know.
@@mrsayang sorry just seeing this now. I know from 67-68/9 he used Zildjians but in the early 70s he switched to Paiste 602s. His typical setup was 14” HH, 16” and 18” crashes, and 20” ride.
A beautiful drum cover! It's not 100% perfect and has some mistakes, but the intensity and playing can't be done better than you did! I enjoyed a lot! 5 stars!
@@DanielS10291 yep, they were the same for every song, I don’t have a pitch or anything but they were tuned up just to get the gross stuff that happens when you take the bottom heads off. Just enough to get tension and tone.
@@ColinWilliamsDrums th-cam.com/users/shortscUWTe-9vK_k?feature=share Any tips on how to get them sounding better? Taken the bottom heads off and tried tuning them but they sound kind of crappy still
I always thought John Densmore was a genius and this song proves that he was. The writing of this song on the drums is incredible.
Absolutely, he always played the perfect part.
the fills in the quieter parts in the beginning fit so perfectly in the composition

I’m on a trip with the doors lately and this was great. The drum solo at the end was exquisite, with intensity and masterfully done. Great job!

Buen trabajo joven! Eres un maestro en la tarola y el ride!
Thank you!
My toms always sound like crap if i take the bottom heads off but john (and you) gets such a great sound 😅
Thanks! It’s just a matter of tuning them up properly!
@@ColinWilliamsDrums do you keep them the same for every song? Any ideas what the rough tuning is?

@@DanielS10291 true tuning them down just a smidge, it’s a different timbre than the usual (with both heads on) so it may take a while to get used to
Very Nice, ......Me 776th . I'm going to make an 8 piece drum set out of dried palm trees...will let you know.
Amazing cover. How did you tune your drums for this? I can’t figure it out!
Thanks Daniel! I just tuned by ear to what felt right. Taking the bottom heads off helps a lot
