  • Family Piano Co's Max Filkins compares Kawai's K300 and K400 upright pianos. These two excellent Kawai uprights are very similar save for a few central advantages of the K400!
Kawai's flagship K Series Professional Upright Pianos provide a truly exceptional combination of touch, tone and stability. For multiple consecutive years, it's even been named “Acoustic Piano Line of the Year” in MMR Magazine’s Dealers’ Choice Awards.
The 48″ K-300 upright piano builds upon the award-winning legacy of its predecessor, the K-3. It is a noteworthy upgrade over the already-excellent K-200, offering longer strings, and upgraded, bigger soundboard with an additional rib, contour bar and back post. This results in a much richer and clearer tone while keeping the same beautiful cabinet and expressive Millennium III action.
The K-400 upright piano is, to boil it down, very similar to the K-300 (same height, same Millennium III action, same keytop texturing) but with some central advantages: the K-400 offers include a grand-style 37"W x 10"T music desk built into the "New England" styled fallboard - this places the music at a much more comfortable eye level. It can also be angled. There are front "vents" under the music desk of the K-400 which has a major impact on sound projection - unlike most upright pianos where sound primarily projects out of the back of the instrument, these vents will project sound directly out towards the player, creating an aural experience more similar to a grand piano. Folks who are used to playing on grand pianos but need an upright piano for space or cost considerations will therefore feel much more at home on the K400!

Is k400 too loud for small room (about 8 square meters)?
