      @@rizkyekaputra9960 That only accounts for "if the unit doesn't already have frost applied to it" and "If it is allowed to tick down for the whole duration." If you get three turns of Frostbite from crystal seeds, which is usual for nonboss units, it does 6+5+4, or 12+11+10. 15 damage versus 33. It's the bosses where it really proves its usefulness by being some real scaling damage.
      I think NL was making a bigger mistake not putting Spell Weakness on bottom floor and casting spells on a higher floor than that. Also he doesn't seem to care about upgrading his units? He was doing this with his Dante unit last two vids or so. The amount the units change with upgrades is astronomical compared to what spells do. Also he removes train stewards when he's got room to play them still. They basically have consume if you can play them, they're not that bad compared to the ice lances.

      @@rizkyekaputra9960 frostbite is just poison from Slay the Spire: it very quickly goes from a square progression to a flat damage per turn.
      In this game it's even worse because regular units reach the pire after only 3 activations most of the time, as someone else pointed out.
      Plus frostbite maxes out at 999 which is not that hard to get on bosses that hover outside your train.

    I think you undervalue the +1 Draw upgrade so hard my dude. If you're playing every card in your hand and end the turn with extra energy frequently, it's usually a sign that you should get more draw. Even if you're using all your energy, it's still a good idea to get more draws. It decreases the chance of getting a bad hand (e.g. drawing too many units when you need spells) and it lets you cycle your deck faster so you get your good cards faster and can use them more during a fight.
    I hope this doesn't come off as backseating. Just trying to give actionable feedback. Loving this series and thanks for the company.

    • @HebiSnake
      @HebiSnake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Draw is definitely the best one unless you have a draw engine in your deck/trinkets. Capacity can be worked around with ascend/descend. Energy can be nice to get some bigboy cards out, but draw makes sure your hand isn't trash by giving you more choices. I almost always end up with 1 energy 1 draw and working around the capacity in some way. Some decks i just go pure draw and ignore everything else.

    Hey! I love the series, thats why I would want to give you some tips:
    * In your situation in 2nd run, U almost always want to put ur "make spells cheap" unit AFTER spell weakness unit, so u can dump ur heavy hitters onto a horde of units with spell weakness :D
    * Also; U want ur harvest units in the same floor with sweep units

    • @ashark8968
      @ashark8968 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In this case NL definitely wouldnt have needed to put harvest unit on the same floor as sweeper. Seeing as he was killing most units with spells. Relatively speeking, his sweep unit was not very strong (11x2), definitely not strong enough to finish enough units when compared to the 20~30 X 3 tornado spam. Unless they were on the same floor as champion, but in that case both points are mute.
      And i do agree with the first tip. It would have been better to have the spell weakness sweeper on a floor below the champion, so entire waves of enemies would all get spell weakness, and then go up to the next floor to be barraged by free tornado spam (with the weakness stacks allowing each instance of tornado damage to finish most units). This would probably require NL taking more tanks to protect sweeper, Especially to deal with the boss.

      Also spell discount decks LOVE draw in any form. can unload far more heavily than just 4-5 spells per turn if you get deep offering and upgrade draw. can easily dump like 10 spells by playing out all your 0 cost shit, redraw, then play more out... >.< he really play much better in minion focused classes than in spell focused ones.

  • @dorsarid9006
    @dorsarid9006 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tips:
    While holdover is a pretty strong effect, you don't want too many of them because you basically draw less of your other cards, like units, which you might need.
    Decide your archetype early, if you want to resummon cards with burnout, you need to let them die early so you can reform them and start stacking up burnout, for the boss.
    Draffs (10x2/5s with burnout 1) are strong for their versatility, you can use them at the front as a damage shield (since they won't survive anyways) or at the back for 10 damage times 2, and they really start to shine when you reform them. I won a run with 7 of them in my deck once, they are that good.
    Permafrost is very good on pyrebound cards.
    Doublestack is very good on daze cards.
    Level up, the later unlocks are usually pretty powerful, for example the umbra last card is a 200/160 (downside is it takes 6 energy and 6 space).the melting remnant have a card that can solo the game pretty much, called the legion of wax.
    That's all that comes to mind, really enjoying this series (and pretty much everything on the channel) thanks for the entertainment!

    NL at 45:00 you could have, if the spell weakness didn't kill the boss, played molded gotten your champion back and use the spell discount to pog off!
    Another thing you could incorporate in this combo of Stydigen guard and support wax bois is to use your champion as a tank and let him die and bring the champion back with molded (Works very well with molded having hold over) so you can get the spell discount on the floor you need if you of course have room for it!

    So, I have been LOVING the MT series and I have seen NL improving, but here is some tips for Ryan (if he sees this) and you!
    ⚪ If you have a Harvest unit, always put it in the same floor with Multistrike or Sweep units. This will make sure the most amount of deaths will be happening for Harvest units to take advantage of.
    ⚪Make sure the floor after the Spell Weakness unit is ready for some spells to be played! To make sure of this, NL could do;
    ⚫⚫Put Champion after the Spell Weakness unit so he could play most spells and take advantage of spell weakness while doing it.
    ⚫⚫Put Magic Power Boosting unit after the Spell Weakness unit to hit even heavier
    ⚫⚫*Notice the synergy between Cheap Spells + Magic Power Boost
    *
    ⚫⚫Put your Incant unit in the floor you will be playing most of your spells in. So it gets as much triggers as possible.
    ⚫⚫*Notice the synergy between Cheap Spells + Incant*
    ⚪Put your burnout units at the top or the bottom most floor to make sure they are constantly dying so you can constantly bring them back stronger.

    Tips! (edited to move spoilers down lol)
    I think the final battle was definitely winnable, but it was over from the first draw and summon most likely. Icy Cilophyte was the make or break card, even more important than the champion. You could have considered playing around broken anvil and going for draw instead of energy here, but that's just my opinion. Once it was dead, I think that boss was making through no matter what. In addition, playing Guard of the Unnamed on the second floor just to die was no good, and he could have easily replaced the waxy gold baron on floor 1, not to mention only a few minutes prior, you used the last of your gold to give mollusk (your backline) +20hp while Guard boy shed a single tear of neglect.
    Overall, my big tip would be to not overvalue your champion, and take time to consider what you want your floors to look like in the ideal scenario because you never seemed to come to a consensus on what role each minion in your deck was meant to play, and if you can recover from a worst case scenario like what if you got every card in exactly the wrong order you wanted them.

  • @MoogleEmpMog
    @MoogleEmpMog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    First general tip: Draw is generally the strongest pick between Energy, Draw and Capacity. The other two are easier to work around, but having more cards will always help you.
    Energy is especially weak for most decks (including the one you played here). After you've played your units, your spells should have an average hand cost of 3 or less in most cases, because -1 Cost/Reroll/-1 Cost in the Merchant of Magic is such a reliably good choice. In this case your champion even reduced their cost dramatically. (This is also why the emberdrain cards should be very playable -- with a few spell shop visits and some extra draw, you should be able to play at least three 0-cost cards every turn, so who cares if you have any energy at all?)
    Second general tip: If at any point you don't remember which version of Seraph you're fighting, mouse over the winged icon in the upper left and check. Until you memorize the different versions of Seraph and can keep them in your head all run, you should probably do that before every card choice. For this version, which eats your spells, you often want to get cheap spells even if they don't have an obvious use, and to keep a few bad spells in your deck. In particular, anything that replaces itself like Sting, and anything that's even an okay effect but comes with natural Consume, like the tomes and potions, is a great pickup. You probably want to favor Draw over Energy as well.
    Specific tip for the second run: The Tethys that makes damage spells cheaper is definitely a lot trickier to use -- and, frankly, just worse -- than the Tethys that applies Spell Weakness.
    However, he can win you runs, you just have to look at him differently. He almost always wants to be on the TOP floor, not the bottom. If you have ways to apply spell weakness (as you did here, with the sweep unit that did so), put them on the bottom or second floor. Then, after they've had a chance to apply spell weakness, or just to clear out the riffraff with abilities like sweep, spikes and frostbite, the surviving enemies arrive on the floor with Tethys where you can unload damage spells on them. This cuts down significantly on the randomness of spells like Ice Tornado, because only one or two enemies should reach the top floor.

      Love the runs, but stuff like this really gets to me. To me it just makes so much sense to have Icy Cilophyte on the bottom floor with a tank, then Molluskmage and Tethys on the floor immediately after. Like, stack up Spell Weakness then just hammer away with a high power, zero cost spell followed by more high power, zero cost spells? Why would that not be the play? When the pogs rain, they rain. But when the pogs drain, they draaaaaiiiiiin.

    Always pogged for Monster Train!
    Some general Stygian Guard tips, for if you do them in the next few videos:
    "Offering" cards + Split Anvil. The "Offering" cards have a cost of 3, and count as being played if discarded, so you not only get the card's effect, but Split Anvil will then make spells in hand that cost 2 or less cost 0.
    Gifts for a Guard (something like that, forget the exact name) is a really good card, but it requires a thick, spell-heavy deck, so it works well with the final Stygian unlock card (which deals [spells in deck x2] damage, three times). It takes a little bit of caution, but I killed Seraph on the second floor (after applying spell weakness on the first floor) on Covenant Rank 12.

      Some additional tips, focus on having a strong front liner. This means that they need a lot of health and preferably incant gain armor or incant apply sap work wonders in increasing their effective hp. This allows you time to heavily stack either spell weakness or frostbite. Also if you can ever get quick on a sweep unit you should do so as it will prevent a lot of incoming damage. From what I've noticed the far in playing Stygian they benefit heavily from being able to superstack 1 floor as you can have multiple units all gain different incant bonuses at once.

  • @michaelyepez2715
    @michaelyepez2715 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey NL! Tip for getting better, work on having set unit floor plans. Don’t just play stuff in the order you get it. It’s fine to not play units to leave space for your more efficient units all on one floor. On your second run the ideal floor set up would be Mollusk mage/Champion/Baron/Incant Armour unit all on the first floor. It would provide a strong front line and strong synergy between all units

  • @mm0013
    @mm0013 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    With StyGuard as Main Clan and a spell deck you really want draw more than anything else. Having a full floor is nice, but no damage is no damage. Having six or seven cars doing 60 -- 100 each is kinda a big thing. But of course it really depends on deck, enemies and boss-condition. Without IceStorm or Helix you better be putting up some frost-units and ice those fools.

    • @HebiSnake
      @HebiSnake 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @HebiSnake
      @HebiSnake 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rizkyekaputra9960 You can avoid capacity completely with ascend/descend though. Very rarely do i take capacity. I take it only if i have very good draw/ember engines in my trinkets already, or if i absolutely NEED it for some sort of setup and don't have the ascend / descend effects. Having more choices every turn with draw is always useful

    Fatty train stewards is incredibly powerful when you get that artifact in the first chest but probably not for Umbra/Awoken. For clans with lots of strong backline having a bunch of health upgraded, damage shield multistrikers is good. Awoken has all the heal boys and Umbra has all the gorge boys that make them less good because you want them up front.

  • @Troublemasta

    Stygian guard seems super weak compared to a lot of the other factions. The heavy spell reliance with little sustainability on floors just doesn’t seem to work when you can almost always get countered and lose just like this.
