You're doing the best gear demos by far these days. You don't just noodle for five minutes on one setting, you cover everything. Love your playing but we're here to hear the pedal first and foremost. Another nice option is the Menatone Top Boost In a Can. You can find some decent used prices on the latest small box two switch version.
Quite convincing tones from this little pedal, really like it. When they show up in the webshops I'll definitely snatch one. Great demo as always, sir!
Yep, really good indeed! And very much a different flavor to my (or your) standard Lightspeed action. In fact, I am wondering how this would stack with a Lightspeed... about to test that now :)
@@Lamz.. Answer: great! Of course the Lightspeed goes well with everything, but using it as a boost into the 63 Diamond is lovely! Hope you get to try it soon ;)
Good evening dear friend, excellent review of the Vox-type NUX effect. The effect refers to the given year, the processing, appearance and especially the sound looks very good. From a purely personal point of view, it seems to me that NUX confirms its quality (in general) and not only from the point of view of a very reasonable price. I wish you a nice weekend and thank you for the great video. Greetings Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
Thanks Pavel! Yes, NUX are doing a great job at giving us some many different flavors of authentic drive for great prices... I still love the '6ixty5ive overdrive so much, and that's a similar price to this one. Those two pedals together and you have an amazing drive section! Cheers to you and happy music making :)
This is the only Vox pedal that has the chime without it sounding lain across the top and artificial. As the another reviewer said that once own a Vox AC30. He did not know if they nailed it but it sounded like he imagined it should to be an AC30. This pedal is on my short list. It is the only pedal that has been all year. THANX for a very good review and demo.
Yes, I agree! It really has a sweet sound without anything annoying in the high frequencies. You know, I had to ask NUX if the pedal is 'inspired' by any others - they wouldn't tell me ;) But I'd love to know of any other pedal that does the Vox thing simply, and with the Top Boost switch. I'm yet to find another box with the exact same layout. Next on the list: find someone local with an AC30 amp, and do a comparison! Hope you manage to get your hands on one of these soon!
@@RichWordsMusic I thought like the NUX Plexi they may have borrowed another of late Steve Painter Buffalo FX pedals. But he made 9 pedals and none are a Vox.
DID you try it in the FX return of your amp? Cos the H&K clean channel is voiced LIKE a Vox AC30 already! My Tubemeister's clean channel does that Voxy chime thing & if you crank the gain it does that boxy sounding light crunch!
No, as usual I didn't 😅 This is something I need to try for sure. I've got the H&KJ a bit flatter than you but it does do the Vox-y thing really well... again I come back to it being such a great and versatile amp! Gonna try it and report back!
Thanks a lot! Really glad you enjoy my vids. The York's a wonderful guitar... I still have it and don't want to give it back ;) Such juicy tones that sadly put my Fender Tele to shame :( Hope you get to try one for yourself soon!
Great pedal. It’s given my Fender Bassbreaker a completely new edge. Love it. I picked this up with the Demon FX Tape Echo. £20 each. Bargain. The Diamond is now an always on shaper pedal. This review got me interested. Thank you.
Yep, £20 is an absolute bargain for this! Glad you're enjoying it... your Fender's now a Vox, at least kind of ;) Rock on! I need to try that Demon Tape Echo too...
@@RichWordsMusic I’ve heard people say the amp was intended to have a more Marshall voice but actually sounds more Vox like. This pedal certainly brings out extra life
I'd like to know how this stands up against the Joyo AC Tone which I own. This NU-X sounds great, chimey and fewer knobs than the Joyo but they are trying to achieve the same thing. Is that an idea for a shoot-out video?
That's a great idea for a shootout, yes. I would need to acquire an AC Tone for it, but it should be doable. On face value, you'd expect the Joyo to offer slightly more in terms of tonal variation, but I would expect the same core sounds to be as good as identical.
Think the NUX is a drive pedal without speaker simulation. It would probably compliment the Joyo pretty well though. Would love to hear the NUX through an IR loader.
I own an AC30... it's SICCK!!!!!!! My old VOX V830 Distortion/Booster sounded like this, but got a Gnarly Fuzz when Maxxed. It recently died after 34 years of use/abuse.
Well 34 years is a pretty good run! Sounds like a great pedal... I wonder if I'll be able to track one down. Great amps, AC30s - once I get more space I plan to add one to the collection!
Just bought one of these.. is it supposed to have low gain? It doesnt sound as fierce as the online demos show, like this one.. is something wrong with the one i bought haha
With the lower gain tones it's pretty dark I agree, and also not so loud - dime the Master, use the Top Boost and cut out all the bass and you'll get some pretty sweet lower gain drive tones! You could also try tweaking your amp too, just in case! Good luck and happy music making :)
@@RichWordsMusic I've been playing around with it for quite a while, it's not as gainy as I thought.. I hear good crunch tones on the internet.. mine can barely get there, even my TS can do better gain-y tones haha
Agreed, I was very pleasantly surprised! And no, it' also really pretty quiet until you really hammer the gain and volume on the single coils. Really very manageable!
Hello everyone! In addition to other tube amps, I have been playing the Vox AC30 in various versions for over twenty years, including two “AC30 BM Custom Limited Edition” and two “AC30HW60 Handwired 60th Anniversary”. Unfortunately, the “NUX 63 Diamond” hasn't arrived yet, even though I ordered it from the dealer. That's why I haven't been able to test the pedal on stage or in the studio yet. What I heard in the video sounds very much like an AC30. Of course, the “NUX 63 Diamond” can't reproduce the sound of the iconic tube amp one hundred percent. It still lacks a bit of graininess and transparency. But the basic character of an AC30 has been captured well here (for this price). It would be interesting to test the “Diamond” in conjunction with a high-quality Treble Booster to find out whether it can cope with such upstream pedals. Perhaps the “Diamond” should also be pitted against the “Vox Valvenergy Mystic Edge” and the “DC30” from TC Electronic, which all attempt to reproduce the sound of a real AC30. The “Ruby '63 Top Boost Amplifier” from Universal Audio does not seem to me to be suitable for this test, as it belongs to a higher price category. Mit »voxigen« Grüßen aus Germany Mic 🙂
