In a perfect world, Joe would come back to where he began for just one issue of the X-Men. It would be the ultimate Christmas gift for fans of his to see how much his work on the X-Men characters has evolved after all these years.
You have 18 thousand subscribers, I think if you had 18K people buying your comic you'd be doing amazing!!! I always loved Joe Mad's work, even before he got super popular, there was a quirkyness to it that just made me smile.
Joe Mad's Deadpool mini looked better to me than his actual X-Men run up til before he left the book. The last few issues on Uncanny looked closer to what his work on Battle Chasers would end up looking like which is the Madureira art i really liked. Then his work on Ultimates and Savage Wolverine are just on another level of awesome.
GREAT Upload Rich!!! Joe Mad is a legend & his contributions to the comic world & X-titles can't be overstated!!...Some Really Great art form a Great artist!!
Awesome video dude! I remember discovering Joe Mad’s amazing artwork through Age of Apocalypse he did ever since been a huge fan easily 1 of my fav artist
Favorite artist of the 90s although you could tell he burned out toward the end of that era. As far as his Marvel/Uncanny X-Men run, #334-335, #341 and #346 were my favorites. By the time he came back to do Ultimates 3 for Marvel I had "grown out" of his style.
I would agree.. u can tell he wasn't feeling it towards the end..But think about the years he spent on that title & the DOPE work he put in!..coming form an Artist perspective I understand the burn out..But the work he's doing now has grown leaps & bounds since his days on the X-titles!!..U should do urself a favor & check out his New body of work since that time.. It's Really GOOD!!
I discovered Joe on X-Men as I was getting tired of the Superman red vs blue story, his work is what made me appreciate X-Men and Marvel overall. When he dropped off X-Men I dropped off too, ended up buying Viz comics because they had that style I was looking for, and for whatever reason Viz, DC, Dark Horse and Marvel were all I had access to where I lived.
I can't watch everyone's long videos, but I have watched countless of your long videos... I don't know why because many others do the same kind of videos and I can't watch their whole videos.
I'll be honest I'm not a fan of the "airbrushed" coloring one to a lot of these comics A lot of it looks somewhat pillowy if you get what I mean, changing it to B/W really improves the read imo
Sure it was a time of developing those digital coloring tools...once they started doing more cuts and hard and soft edges with the colors it looked way better.
Hey Rich, I've been really enjoying all your Joe Maduriera videos. I feel like your perspective as a comic artist has been invaluable when reevaluating my own approach to the influence Joe has had on my own art. You had actually asked in the video if there were any artists that were influenced by him currently, and while it isn't comic book art, I completed an animated short that was heavily based on Joe Mad and Liquid's art from the 90's. I definitely have a long way to go, but feel free to check our the finished product here: th-cam.com/video/rEqzYfuBsJ0/w-d-xo.html I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Uncanny X-Men 328 was my introduction to Joe and I would buy anything with his work in my early teens.

I’m drawing as often as I used to again watching these videos of our favorite artists. Thank you for uploading these videos!

interesting...it's cool to hear the "fan curve" maybe one day you'll feel a nostalgia and go back to his work.

Is this run a good jumping on point for X-Men? Would love to see this come out in omnibus format

Nothing on Joe though, that guys' amazing. Just feel his pages get subpar coloring often

it's killing me that I don't know who Rich is referencing when he's talking about a popular artist relying on 3D models 😩
