      Might try planting tomatoes separate from all the other plants. I know you have had a “lot” of water n that’s never good n busy too so spraying not consistent. Sorry guess it’s to be expected. Here in WV. JUST got my stuff out and boys the bug already attacking EVERYTHING. Mild winter.

      Good morning Jami 👋🏻 I have those worms also, and I hate them 🤬😁 I also have a big strawberry bed because I love making my own jam/preserves and I also like canning my pie filling. Well yesterday I was looking at them and I seen 2 strawberries growing, but I also seen them nasty slugs all around. I also hate those things. I even put the bird netting over m bed, because my chickens were getting up in there and not only eating the bugs they were pecking my strawberries. And I also have rabbits tht were getting in it so I covered it. It’s just like a no win situation, ya know the saying “ your d@mned if ya do & ur d@mned if ya don’t “ yep Thts it 😅😢🤣 The rest of my garden is like Steph’s, just in the ground. So the chickens walk thru it and I’ve never had any problems with them eating anything other Han he bugs. So hopefully once things start growing they don’t mess it up. Here in Ky we don’t get to start our gardens until May, but I do get a head start because of my greenhouse tht I’m very thankful for. I actually could’ve started it much earlier this yr because we didn’t get the late frost tht we usually get here, yeah strange weather for sure. But thts a good thing because my peach & pear trees r absolutely FULL this yr. They already have peaches & pear’s all over them, I’m so happy about tht. Now to keep the birds away until I get my fruit then I will gladly leave them plenty 👍🏻🤣 Thts like my corn, I have to sow enough so the deer, raccoons, and all the other wildlife tht eats it can also have theirs. But sometimes they get greedy , like last yr, and take it all. They get the watermelon also, so yeah it’s always something thts gonna also get plenty to eat. And sometimes, I’m left out 😭🤣 Did ya plant any marigolds around in ur bed? Sometimes they help, not always unfortunately. I also surrounded my garden with sunflowers so the birds will have plenty to eat, and I also get seed for the next yr from them. I hope y’all have a great day, and here’s to happy planting girl 🍹 God bless u all 🫶🏻🙏

      @@sharonmissler3715idk, maybe you better soak them in water and change the bowls water out a few times before feeding them to your birds?? I think I would at least do that first. Look at your big tree as well. They could be dropping from there. Talk to your older neighbors and ask them what you could do. My son planted tomatoes and squash and they got eat up. He loves to grow all the hot peppers. Carolina reapers, habaneros , mammoth jalapeño etc. he never has bugs on his peppers so he grows a lot of them and trades with friends. A lot of them make us pepper jelly in return. It’s a win win for us!!

    Look up Neem oil. It can be used for fruit , veg, flowers. It’s a spray on. We got this from Amazon. It worked great for our Roses. Because it’s an oil it doesn’t wash off as easy. It works quick.
    The dill you say has gone to seed my mom used one of those round tops per Mason jar when making dill peppers . I would pick everything that’s good. Those tomato plants just need sun to bloom. Throw garden lime on them to maybe get rid of some of the bugs.

    Jami if you prune those tomatoes they can focus on making fruit.....too much beautiful foliage uses all the plant energy. Cutting back helps give fruit. Air circulation is important to healthy plants. You have abundant space dont crowd plants too much.
    You've learned so much in a short time.

    1st, you have had an extremely wet year, which didn't help. That and the plants are so very close together. It looks like it would be very hard picking worms off of your plants. Almost like they have no problem going to the next plant.
    If your sprinkle Neem oil or powder all over your plants, they won't touch them. My sister had issues like that and even on her Rose bushes. Neem took care of the issue and she didn't have to fight with them. She would have replanted her dead rose bushes (the ones that died before she used Neem)this year, but unfortunately she passed away. Good luxk with your garden. You might also see what your vegetable gardening book says.
    Cheers 👍💕🌱

      Planting too close can cause issues also. Plants need a bit of air drying and air flow between plants. It is good for them to breathe! 🍆🍅🌽🌶🌱🤗

    Jami the only thing I've found that will deter the worms, is 7 Dust and you have to reapply after every rain. Without rain every 7 to 9 days, just look at the plant's and you can tell if they need more. The correct spelling is Sevin Dust TSC and Home Depot carries it.

    My grandfather always had a very productive garden. He taught us to never plant too close together because it gives the bugs a great place to nest and they can travel from plant to plant easier. He always planted a solid wall of marigolds around the perimeter and some between plants. He would use dish soap and water in a hose sprayer directly on all his plants and would let that set for a day, then rinse it off. That's how he did it with his lawn, fruit trees, and 🌹 roses.❤

    • @janinebrown2280
      @janinebrown2280 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree. Also planting too close, no air
      Flow so when everything got soaked in the big rains the plant can not dry out. I would plant at least the distance recommended on the seed pack and then prune to 2 or 3 canes/stalks and tie up. That will help a lot. But in the end Jami I think all the storms and the lack of time were your biggest culprits. You girl are the definition of busiest of all time. Save and preserve what you can and plant in the fall when it’s cool.🫶

    Tagetes ( a sort of Marigold with a very distinkt smell) is a great side-plant to keep bugs at bay. You can douse your plants with a concoction of stinging nettles submerged in water and left to stand until they get nasty. This nettle-water doesn't sting, is not poisonous, but also helps keeping hungry butterfly-babies away. It works best if used before any problems arise, and at intervals during growing season. Brilliant idea to water your garden before rain. It makes it easier for the rain to soak in and benefit your plants instead of just washing off the nutrients.

    💥💥 i’m not a garden expert. But my father-in-law was. And from watching Stephanie‘s garden and pawpaw‘s garden and my father-in-law‘s garden it looks like you overcrowded your garden. I was taught that you don’t overcrowd it so the plants can get airflow around it. Especially with all of the rain that you’ve had it can’t dry out. You also can’t see when you have the beginnings of insect problems. I know you love gardening, but as he told me, decide what you want and what you will eat and plant that because you can’t plant everything. I would share that same advice with you because you have a tendency of wanting to put some of everything that you see in a garden at the same time. I would suggest you either making a larger garden or just plant what you will eat and what the animals will eat, and then if you want to try different things make a small little garden to try those things. But not all of the same time. And not as many of the same new things at a time. Even Jason at Coghill Farm their gardens are not all cluttered up like that. Not trying to be critical, but since you’re new with this pay attention to Jason‘s garden, Stephanie‘s garden, they’re not all cluttered and they do have ground cover down to keep the weeds out. I definitely would not have put more water on that garden. I don’t care if you couldn’t pull the weeds out just break them off for now, but there’s too much water in that garden. Just a suggestion. I would also suggest you watch Jason‘s gardening and find out what he uses that is toxic free to spray on your garden. Especially since the animals are eating it. If we humans want to eat poisoned vegetables that’s one thing we can wash it off but when you just pick it out of the garden and go feed it to the animals. That’s not such a great idea.

    To get rid of the worms initially you can use 7 Dust. It kills quickly and you can use it up to 1 or 2 days before harvest if necessary because it stays active a relatively short time. That's what I did last year and it saved my tomatoes and peppers. I only had to apply once and they didn't come back the whole summer.
