TLDR (summarized version):
• don't skip your real life responsibilities to watch streams (take care of yourself first)
• if shu streams at a bad time for you, you can always watch the VOD
• don't tell shu your timezones in chat (it can be irrelevant to the stream and difficult for shu to respond to those kinds of messages)
• it's impossible for shu to accommodate for every single timezone, so he'll continue to stream at the times convenient for him (north american hours), although he does occasionally stream in hours better for other timezones
It’s a correct attitude for Shu to take as a streamer. If he had to cater to everyone’s time zones, it would keep him up at all hours both for the sake of accommodating and possibly from anxiety. It’s much healthier, physically, mentally and psychologically, for him to not care and simply stream when he wants or at hours he’s agreed to with streamers from other time zones.
I don't know about anyone else, but when Shu starts streaming around 2-3 am my time (aka my usual hours when I go to sleep), I like to open his stream, watch for a bit and fall asleep listening to it. Since his streams and his voice are really calming, it's actually a great way to beat my insomnia and troubles with falling asleep, cuz ngl, eversince I started doing it I've been able to fall asleep more easily.
That's definitely something I do if he streams too early or too late. There's only so long the human body can remain awake for before negative side effects come to the fore.
Besides, Shu's voice is absolutely soothing, so I often do play his VODs in the bg when I'm too wound up for bedtime.💜

Yeah, for me some voices are so good for falling asleep to. They are just so soothing. I had this problem in college with one of my teachers. I kept falling asleep during presentations.
Us Yaminions kept telling Shu to go sleep so we should take our own advice too. Remember vods will always be up and clippers will always clip the stream. I remember being sad that I missed Voxs karaoke because of school but school is very important so you shouldn’t skip it, so is work. Pls take care of yourselves!
So glad he talked about this. Seeing the chat full of comments like this during the livestream is a bit overwhelming. I used to force myself to watch Shu's streams at bad hours and then I got really sleep deprived. Sleepge is more important! Let's take care of ourselves first! 💜

I like the part where he says "i could care less about your time zones". Because its risky and rare for streamer to say their honest thoughts like so and i respect Shu for it.
I'm glad he pointed out ppl spamming their time zones in chat. If the Vtuber themselves ask what time is it in their listeners' area, then obvs it's okay to share it. But sometime chat brings it up unprompted and spams it so much it buries comments that are actually relevant to the stream.

If you chose to stay up for his stream during an ungodly hour, bear the consequences but you don't have to say it in his chat/under his tweet replies, he's not responsible for your actions and he doesn't need to cater to everyone. Also, you are not supporting him less if you miss one or two streams so don't skip work or school for that. Watching VODs is also a form of support. c:

I was still awake when he started streaming but I decided to not watch because it is super late so I decided to just sleep and just watch the vod after waking up lol
You decide for yourself, Shu can’t take responsibility for someone else’s wellness after all. He has his own life and time to care for.
I mean, sometimes I typed my tz to communicate with others who is in the same tz more than to tell him, but I didn’t know that it make him feel uncomfortable to see it. So I’m glad that he seriously talked about this, that’s a great attitude tho. People need to live their life and organize the priorities 😊 !

glad shu's always ready to put his foot down or get serious with his chat whenever necessary. his viewerbase has become especially tame and respectful because of this (not perfect, but y'know? can't fix every bad egg...) He doesn't feel the need to satisfy everyone because he knows it's impossible. he does his best within his means and works to improve when he sees a shortcoming. I appreciates his mindset.

not to be that guy but i see a lot of non-NA people complain about timezones and its super annoying. like i'm a lucub, and luca usually streams at midnight for me. and i keep my mouth shut about it. and then the one day luca has a stream at 11am, or 5pm my time, chat is FILLED with people going "omg its sooo late" "pls end stream im so sleepy" "its 3am here pls luca" like ..... just be quiet oh my god
Honestly I live in the US I don’t complain when someone streams at night. Like I’m also currently in college and as much as I want to watcha stream I can wait the next day or watch it in my free time. It’s not a big deal people need to know streamers can’t stream for every timezone 😑

Before, I used to stay up late too and during pre-chat, people would chat what time it is in their place and I too would respond. In my head, it was more of letting other people in the chat know and more on connecting with people in other places and being happy about it, not really complaining or trying to influence Shu to adjust his streaming time.
At least now, we know what he thinks about all this 💜 I'm glad he's sticking to his boundaries.
I mean VODs are available... Although I understand the appeal of watching live and being apart of chat but its not worth losing sleep or something important over /:

I watch when I can, not too worried about missing streams. Shu is my fave En vtuber but that doesn't mean I have to watch all of his streams.
Well yeah tbh I have been stayed up watching Vods and clips till like 1AM for the past month (cause am a newbie so there are so many interesting things to watch) and also procrastinating some deadlines. But the past few days I have to keep telling myself that “Hey, they will not do the assignments for me. I have to save myself!”. It is very nice hearing from Shu himself that he is just some dude in the internet, and it is basically not wrong, he is very straight to the point so that viewers understand how their own life matters too. Love this guy 💜💜
i remember i was planning to stay up all night just to watch his valo stream but good thing i failed to do so lmao. watching his VOD at morning while drinking a nice cup of coffee is way better than watching it live while you're sleepy as heck.

Shu has always been pretty good with VODs too. I always try to watch live but I have had more irl stuff then ever lately so im glad he said this! It was very motivating to hear since I felt sorta bad I have been missing streams latley but have always struggled with my sleep. Shu Yamino is just some guy on the internet but when I do get to watch his streams it makes my day! Will always support him!!💜
glad he said this. i usually watch vod but im guilty of commenting 2am gang too this stream since i was excited i can catch his stream because i dont have anything the next morning (weekend here!) and it's actually just my sleep schedule that's fucked up from the start so im always awake at ungodly hour. but i see how it's uncomfortable for the streamer since like he said, what do we expect them to answer lol. be aware of our own responsibility and lets just be more mindful chatting too :')
If that usually happens in prechat ("2am gang" calls), then I don't think it's necessarily something that would make him uncomfortable so long as people don't proceed to say "I'm skipping x to watch the stream".🤔After all, Shu's sleep schedule is very much all over the place too. So it would say, as long as the viewers take responsibility for their own actions (to skip/sleep/etc) and don't make it seem like it's Shu's fault they did that, then it is pretty neat to tell others what timezones you're in.
I really hope people take Shu's words to heart and stop announcing their timezone or their lack of sleep when it's off-topic. It's likely to make the streamer feel guilty, or like Shu said, they don't really know how to respond to it. It's one of my pet peeves to see people posting in chat things like "LOL 5 AM HERE I'M GONNA SKIP CLASS TODAY" when it has zero relevance to what's going on. You don't need to broadcast everything to the chat!

Only once have i joined Shu's stream at a bad time for me (1am) but i wasn't even watching, i just let it play because it was his soft karaoke stream, so i still fell asleep regardless.

Yeah I agree with the statement. I haven't been able to watch many lives because of work. I love being a yaminion and watching shu its so much fun but there is a limit. Reality hits yk work, school and everything.

Sometimes I actually watched streams in the nights but I actually work in healthcare and have so many different shifts that I watch them if I have the late night shift. For my morning shifts I go to bed early, wake up early and watch some streams before I go to work. That are the streams I usually don't get bc I prefer to sleep till forenoon.^^
But Shu is actually really right! As a teen I wasn't responsible and only slept 4-6h bc of games and everything. Now I sleep 6-9h.^^
i used to catch every one of shu's streams, but i was only able to do that because my sleep schedule was scuffed. But, i had to prepare for college life so i decided to just watch his vods instead^^ but anw, regardless of whether or not u have plans, please prioritize ur health, losing sleep over something that's not serious shouldnt be it for anyone, and blaming shu or anyone at all for that is also unnecessary and so wrong
As a yaminion who's age is pretty young compared to other fans I do have to say I agree with shu. Even though I enjoy watching shu's stream I won't stay up til like 3am in a school day just to watch his stream. I try to do everything irl before going back to the internet world

shu's stream times are usually in the middle of the night or early morning for me so I only get to catch them if i was already awake when the stream's about to start. If my brain's throwing me through some shit that night I just stay until I feel like I can sleep (or if i was working on stuff in the middle of the night the stream makes good background noise usually)
But i make sure to sleep when i can!
And as much as i complain about it I would never have the courage to skip classes on purpose ;w; It would make me feel immensely guilty

Well, Shu streams at late night for me (between 9pm - 11pm) and I don't stay up but I still watch his VODs after so kudos to him for doing so👍
the way some of them just kept going, pressing the "it's __ AM my time" on the chat is giving me so much second hand embarassment... like, vods exist for a reason. we can always catch those instead of staying up late and complaining in the chat, where shu can see it. let's all be responsible enough.

I’m a vod watcher so I don’t stay up for streams unless they’re unarchived. So I’m glad he’s looking out for his viewers even tho tbh I feel like ppl should know better than to wreck their sleep and responsibilities when there’s the video available. Take care of yourselves people. If it's past your bedtime, you definitely shouldn't be watching a stream if you have something going on the next day :( Vods are still there so you can catch up on it. I get that it doesn't feel the same as watching it live but, it's not that important ya'll, they're just gamin' or something lmao. Honestly, the best part about vods is that you can watch it at faster speeds or just go down to the timestamps. It's a life changing time saver 👀
