  • Brian May wrote "Save Me" about a friend whose relationship had ended, and played piano, synths and guitars (electric and twelve-string acoustic) on it.
It was recorded in 1979 and released in the U.K. on January 25th, 1980.
It was also included in the album The Game as the last track of the album released June 30, 1980.

At first Brian May plays the piano while Freddie sings. Then Freddie plays the piano and sings while Brian May plays the guitar. They just make this look so easy. That's how big was this band. Incredible.

But he did - John Deacon taught me how to play bass. He doesn’t know that, obviously - but I spend THOUSANDS of hours as a teenager learning all his lines - recordings, live versions and so on. Incredible player.

Wembley is a far more fun concert to watch, Freddie did have the flu at Wembley. Rock Montreal have induvial great live performances but the show doesn't flow well, when you watch the whole show live in one go. Budapest is actually a great show, but the way in which every performance is broken up by other material makes less fun to watch. Queen live at Milton Keynes 1982, are best of the shows.

Over and above the INCREDIBLE SONG, note the fantastic "infrastructure" of how they pull this song off live: First, Brian on piano for first two verses, using the piano mic for bv; at some point, Freddie goes over Brian's side of stage for coverage; 2nd chorus, Brian takes up guitar, around his lap - he moves to his position, so Freddie moves back over other side of stage; then during guitar solo, Freddie on piano, hands off mobile mic [I've always marveled at his mic-roadie receiving and handing off the mic to him so seamlessly!] and uses piano mic for both guitar solos; then handing back the mobile mic for finale. Fucking Brilliant! They make it look so easy, yet you know that hours of planning, prep and rehearsal went into that seamlessness!

Whoever doesn't like this can stay in their den of hate. The greatest male singer of all time fronting one of the best bands of all time. No equal!!!

1980, Italy, got The Game album and this song just blew me away, and still does. No one comes close. Simple as that.

The entire song is exceptional but the onslaught of powerful vocals from 3:38-3:51 still amaze me after all these years.

....and that's how live performance is should be. No autotune, no earpiece, no fancy computers, but always in tune no matter how he bends the notes. Phenomenal band that has ever formed in this planet!

Mine too. This is a literally flawless and unbelievable vocal performance. Brian was also perfect on this night...they created true magic on this rendition of the song.
