It is much better than the concept, but in my opinion, it still doesn't look good. I especially don't like the headlights under the very squinty running lights, which they also did with the 7-series. To me, that running light-headlight design appears like they pressed the top of one car onto another. Also, I guess they wanted to pay homage to the M1 with the slats on the rear lights, but I don't like them either.

As a 23 years of industrial design I can sincerly say that the sketches are beautiful, but the production version is a total aesthetic mess. Also looks kitsch and cheap. But of course, there are plenty of same kind of people and their tastes that will appreciate this disturbing block.
I think it looks good. lot of people seems to take the huge grille out of the context and say it looks bad but imo bmw designers did an amazing job putting everything together.
Genuinely one of the few occasions where the production model looks better than the concept! Still challenging to look at, but I'm sure the design will grow on me, a bit like Chris Bangles designs
I'm really glad you view the XM like you do, (don't know if you saw my comment in the previous video of BMW X cars) but I do believe the brave will be rewarded in this case. As always, there will be a lot of fallout from 1st impressions, only to be quietly retracted a few months on. Great review!

Absolutely better than the concept. And i didnt even mind the concept but i love this. I agree with the screen - dash intergration. I didn't like it on the Mercs, neither do i in BMW. It could have been better intergrated into the dash

this is the best looking funky bmw’s lately. this is consistently outrageous design, the front,back,sides,lights, grill. wish had more bold wheels to match.
Compared to the concept I agree that they toned down the ugliness a little bit, but the proportions of the whole car are still terrible. The narrow glasshouse on the sides makes it look extremely “heavy”, any sort of sporty proportions that BMW suv typically have are gone. The front face is still kind of a mess , I still dislike the split headlights. Also considering how much the asking price is going to be, the interior is just combination of interior parts from many other BMWs as is not unique and premium enough for a “flagship” M model. I am curious what the sales figures are going to be in the future for this model, if us who criticize it are just oblivious to current trends or if it will flop real hard.
You're probably right but I think BMW took Luxury & Futuristic approach on this, as much as it is an M car but when you look at the proportions think Rolls Royce Cullinan, maybe a fighter against the AMG-Maybach SUV by Mercedes.
I love the concept of having an XM model. Truly the only exterior design elements I like are the rear windshield with double logos and the hi-tech front and rear lights. 🐈⬛
First off I agree massive improvement over concept. Secondly while I am not a fan of this sort of design I appreciate it more than featureless and repetitive design of Mercedes Benz and unimaginative work of Audi.
Now this is awesome. It's one of the really rare moments where a production vehicle is much better looking than the concept. It's almost like BMW gave a polished middle finger to their design department (the ones who did the XM Concept and the 2023 7 series), and hired a new set of designers. Great job, BMW
I was unsure about the concept, but this is much better. Black is def the best color on this and probably all their cars with this head light/DRL design, maybe a really dark gray as well.
I love the design, possibly going to pick one up one day. The only issue I have with it is the steering wheel, its disappointing they haven't done any design update to it. Its starting to look very outdated.

I think they had it before, but were not at liberty to show the double headlighs. So they had to change it rather quickly, resulting in a rushed concept.
And then there're the ones who want to forget the concept and make it like it never existed, and want this to be the one which was the concept and the production to remove the lowered headlights completely, making them an unit again

Love or hate some of their designs, BMW designers definitely have the most balls and freedom to go wild. None of their products look similar, some look amazing, some less so, but at least they are bold and controversial as hell, which I respect.
I honestly feel like you have to be artistic to like BMWs design and understand what they are doing. I've been a fan of all designs lately, or at least appreciated what they are trying to do which is innovate. That's always been their plan so to me the brand hasn't really lost anything

A car should be user friendly, safe for driver and environment etc. Also these cars are full of useless design features such as fake aero elements, unnecessary lines and bloated surfaces. Yeah it sometimes looks cool, but we’re talking about a transport vehicle, not something from the army.. I’m curious what do you think they are trying to doing lately? Maybe I’m just missing the point

@@pjetrs Usually, for a customer to buy a car he must either feel a connection or emotion with that product (to feel it will make him look cooler, it will make him empowered, it will make him feel rich, it will make him proud of him), either the car is just so cheap he doesn’t care (but that’s for stuff like Dacia and definitely not BMW, although even Dacia changed their positioning and now go for the connection with the customer I was talking about earlier). BMW’s strategy nowadays is focusing on the consumer that’s going to buy that exact type of car when they are designing it, ignoring what the general public (that wouldn’t buy that car) says. Would you buy an SUV that’s so big that you can barely park it in any European city while at the same time it tries to be a performance car with 600 something up and that at the same time is more expensive than a house? Chances are not. The people that would buy this almost illogical mix of a car / atrocity, actually want their car to look like the illogical mix / atrocity it represents and for other people to see how cool they are. And the BMW XM delivers exactly that. I want to mention that I personally don’t like the XM nor do I particularly like the i7, but I understand they weren’t meant for me to like.

I don't know what I'm missing, but this looks terrible to me. The front looks so incoherent and I'm still not a fan of the stacked headlights. Nobody's managed to get that right yet, and certainly not BMW. It looks like two different cars clipping into each other. Also I don't like the badges on the rear windscreen. The only thing I like about it is the tail lights. There's a reason why it looks that much better in black. Still better than the iX, thankfully.
BMW Exterior Designers really squandered this opportunity. Exterior looks like a bulky and bloated X7, cannot stand the rims. Should’ve looked more like the sleek X6M!

To be fair, I'm loving this new Cyberpunk design aesthetic from BMW in their 7 series and XM lines. So far it's been pretty good design choices
