I live down the street from the home in Carondelet Park. I've passed it everyday for 24 years. I would love to see an episode dedicated to the family and the inside of the house.

The house is mentioned in a book by. (Sorry I do not remember her first name) Coyle It says that the Lyle family were southern sympathizers and left durning the Civil War never to return. But it was latter revealed that the did return some years later. It needs love , attention, and donations.

I have never heard of an I house. The Mittenberg’s were friends of the Demenils. They at one time shared the Chattion home as summer property. The Chattion-Demenil will always be my favorite, It is Greek Revival, built when Greek Revival was out of fashion. I also love the Mittenberg house and it is not well known. 😍, Thanks, 👵

Shaw's Tower Grove House is favorite, although the Afton rock house is close second.

Looks like The Alexander Lacy Lyle house needs to be funded to be restored.

For the Record, the Oakland House is TECHNICALLY St. Louis County, but it is most certainly on the city-county line in terms of area. Back when it was built, of course, it was just St. Louis. (source: grew up in Afton/Affton). I remember going to the Oakland House as a kid around Christmas-time. They tended to focus on the subsequent owners who were Swedish in the house tour. At one time in the past, there was a "boat house" that was believed to be the slave quarters just off the property.

You are correct. In the video, Nathan mentions that it is in Affton, MO in St. Louis County. We will update the description of the video to include the surrounding area

It would be super cool if you were able to go inside these homes for tours, is that a possibility or are they closed to tours? Fun video, thank you!

FYI: cupola. Pronounced Q-pull-a (short a)

That's our St. Louis accent for you! In all seriousness, thank you, we are a bunch of book worms at This House so we don't always get that part right, we will take note, thanks for your feedback!

@@ThisHouse - I learned it the hard way. My college instructors told me since I was hoping to be an architect, I better learn the jargon...

I loved the vid. I am sure you are misprouncing "cupola" though. I never ever heard it the way you say it. The accent should be on the "cu" not the "po" as you say it. Anyway, great vid. TY
