You might want to check out an app called uTalk that teaches the language, and there's several groups and pages on facebook dedicated towards the language itself. A popular one I know would be "Domo ni Vanua e Aotearoa" that's a NZ based group targeting Fijians that live there. Just so you know.
Hi. Crash course in the basics on the language of Fiji here. It's 21:00hrs here in Edinburgh and we are playing against Fiji tomorrow at Murrayfield. It's been good info from you.
How do you say ‘I love you’ in fijian? I want to tell my boyfriend I love him because he’s moved to Fiji for a while and I think it would be cool to learn how to say it
There's two ways of saying it: "Au domoni iko" - what you would tell your partner. "Au lomani iko" - what you would say to a close relative or family member.
Tomasi Biumaiwai hey, I was wondering how you say ‘I love you’ to your partner. I’ve heard it’s spelt differently to how you’d tell your family you love them? X
@@arthurfoulks-sake7601 kai is usually put in front of other ethnicities or countries ususally - like you would say kai viti for native fijians or kai idia for indians so there for kai valagi (: maybe the mai is from a different dilect
@@emilyroper8916 yes, you're slightly right. If you were to say it to a family member or anyone else in general, it's " au lomani iko". If you were to say it to a partner, say for example, you're about to enter into a relationship, it would be "au domoni iko", if you're going steady for a few months now, "au se domoni iko tikoga (i still love you) and if you've been happily married for say about 5 or a decade going it would be the second example or the first example. Depends on the situation.
There are actually more than 300 dialects in Fiji of which 20 are extinct or probably extinct. In totality the Fijian language has more than 20 alphabets.

The quickest way to learn is to have your family and iTaukei friends speak to you in it.

Emily Roper when I say I love you to my family, I say “Au domoni iko.” Or some others would say “Au lomani ni iko” or for short “Au lomani iko”.

You dont say the g when saying sega its silent
thank you. still learning how to prnounce things
So like the "ng" in "long"?
@@leilofua7853 yes , polys get confused when they see Fijian words. Now u know
Yeah true, like the way you pronounce singer, you wouldn’t be saying Sing-GER, just sing-ER. So not Seng-GAH, but instead Seng-AH

That's interesting. Can I ask you - had the extinct languages been documented before they went extinct? If not, that's a shame.
I should do a video on this. It's very true about the dialects and some cool history. Bula
there is no part 2..
Didn't have time to do a 2nd part but I will in the future
