I don't understand people paying hundreds $ for concert of Rihanna etc, where they are often performing using playback but to be on Dio concert? I would sell my car just to be there
Heres what happened. In the old days artists toured to promote album sales. The tours werent intent on making money for the label or band. Just to sell records, the band members were paid a largely token wage for each show. Nowadays with everyone pretty much stealing music or downloading it for pennies, when a band tours the whole operation has to make money, and may be the primary source of income for the band, touring crew, and label. This is why you see $2-300 tickets for nosebleed seats to see marginal bands. In one year or two period, I guess around '84-85, I didnt miss a single hard rock/metal concert that came to the San Diego Sports Arena. Must have been about 20 a year of bands I liked, I had no problem buying the tickets that were IIRC about $22. You did have to physically stand in line sometimes for hours for a good seat the day they went on sale, tho the local scalping businesses might have great single seats at face value if you called an hour before the show. When Metallica stopped on the black tour that show was filmed for MTV and the footage was used for the sad but true and other videos. Epic show. I got a 17th row center single ticket from the agency right across from the arena, at face value, 10 minutes before the show. Cant do that now.
I'm 19 years old and I completely agree. Modern music sucks and the concerts are even worse. I wish I could go back in time just to catch a Dio concert. R.I.P Dio!
@@jessh8761 a friend of mine (original drummer for Bang Tango) was Vinnie Appices drum tech for almost 2 years around 1995, when Dio toured the US, Europe and Japan with Motorhead opening the shows in Europe. When they stopped here in san diego got to have a beer and a joint with ronnie on the bus, and sit in on sound check. Vinnie had the flu so my buddy actually got to play the sound check. Ronnie was even more friendly and humble than all the stories make him out to be. Made me feel like we had been old friends. I never met Lemmy but my buddy told me he was just as great as Ronnie was. A fountain of wisdom. They played at a small club then but I saw Dio on the last in line and sacred heart tours. Dont worry about what you think youve missed in the past, at your age youre entering the best time of your life, the moment that matters is now. Also the quality of sound and production are much better now. (If youve never heard of Bang Tango check out the Psycho Cafe album, its a classic. )
@@jessh8761I agree even though I was born in 94, music in the 70s and 80s are far superior than modern music today. Unfortunately teenagers and young adults in their early 20s get offended and say “there is good modern music you’re not looking hard enough smh. Dio for life 😈🤘🏻
Vivian was the Best guitarist for Dio and if he had been recognized for his talented contributions to Ronnie's solo efforts and not fired Ronnie would've outlasted Ozzy
All those drums surrounding him and yet there is no second kick just kills me. The potential of Vinnie on a double kick breaks my heart that he was so closed off to the idea.
A comparison best avoided. Each has their strengths, its a good thing that "best" has so many definitions. On his best day Bruce could never match Ronnies range of emotions, his hard metal voice. On Ronnies best day he couldnt match Bruces enthusiasm or octave range, his mastery of vibrato. As a band, Maidens catalogue is much larger, their output in the 80s was insane. As a singer, Dios work encompassed 3 major groups, equally prolific. We can safely say if you had both bands backstage at their peak and someone tried to start a discussion of who was best, everyone in the room- artists, management, fans alike- would look at you like you were the stupidest person in the world.
Viv was a phenom... Came out of nowhere to be top of the industry. Id say he was more versatile than eddie, and didnt rely so much on gimmicks. Eddie was such an innovator but that really dated his sound for me. Recently got in a discussion online with someone trying to say EVH was light years better than Michael Schenker. Eddie had his tricks but I had to argue I hadnt listened to a Van Halen record in 20 years and saw no reason to again. However Im still listening to MSG. (Looking for Love, On and On, etc)

The trueness of his voice so rare
Awesome drumming!!!!
Vinnie appice...dio drummer name.
What a solo! The amazing vivian campbell!!
He was the man he was meant for this kind of music. Sick pure sick badass dio mad a big mistake letting him go
@@bonniegrandstaff398yes he did. Craig goldy was the only one to do Vivian justice solo wise. Vivian was and always will be a monster on the guitar
There is just something about watching Dio and Vivian side by side; it was a perfect storm.
Saw him twice, he was amazing, powerful, and two of the best live shows I went to.
Same...Last in Line and Sacred Heart tours. How did we get to exist while Dio existed 😊
that voice at 3:19
2:29 Vivian Campbell. Perfect solo!!!

So powerful high notes without any visible preparation, Dio is in his best form!

3:05 imo the best part of the song. That blasting guitar solo.
That Bain Bass!!
Had this show on VHS. It captures so well the energy of the debut tour.Of course you can also get the ‘Spectrum’ show from ‘84 on one DVD nowadays.
Watching this gives me the chills! So sad I was born in 03 so never got chance to see him. :(
Legendary gig, sad I missed out this one
yeah, first video tape, with great sound that was available then. Legend indeed! Every Dio fan at the time wish to have been there :-)
vivian campbell, too good of a guitarist to be demoted to secondary def leppard guitarist.

How can this live and song itself be so underrated? This is metal almost as classic as Iron Maiden
