Sir Pita Lus

Sir Pita Lus was one of the most colorful characters in PNG politics.
He is credited as the man who encouraged a young Michael Somare to go into politics in the late 1960s. He campaigned for him and even told him that he would be Prime Minster.
We spoke to Sir Pita Lus in Wewak. His strong views on self-determination and self-government haven't changed.
He remains a strong defender of economic independence.
