Things I know about the bassoon 1. Expensive 2. Hard to play/learn 3. Lot of people don’t know the name 4. I’ve heard someone call it a bazooka 5. Woodwind 6. “The one from Stravinsky piece” 7. “Musket oboe” 8. A tree trunk but it got turned to an instrument
I’ve been playing for around two years and have made great strides with the Bassoon. I am in honors band and a youth wind ensemble. Not trying to Brag.
*Things I Know About The Bassoon, As A Trombonist:* 1. Woodwind 2. Not in marching band 3. Big 4. I think it plays the same notes as a trombone, not totally sure, and, 5. Mrs. Allen’s friend used to play it.
@@Mrs.Allen.81the left thumb keys can be press multiple at once. but you typically only need to play one or two with one thumb, because low Bb only needs one left thumb key because that key holds the rest down. Db is the exception with the two keys with one thumb.
Hey Mrs. Allen, I am a bassoonist and I personally twist the two middle joints in a little bit when I put them in. Thanks for bringing this instrument to more people ❤
I cried and laughed while watching. It is easier to put it together, if you start with the smaller piece of the middle part. I hope you have fun playing it. 😊
This is so chaotic I love it!! I play bassoon and those two long pieces are the wing joint and the long joint. I wouldn't recommend putting those in at the same time 😂
Yea I’m a bassoon player aswell. I started in 7th grade!! The bottom is the boot, and the two pieces go in one at a time. You did a great job!! Thanks for talking about our instrument!! ❤
bassoon performance major here ! to put it together you can separate the 2 body pieces! put in the wing joint (the short one) in first, then the long joint and then secure the pin. in total the bassoon can have up to 13 thumb keys between both thumbs, but it depends on the model. the good thing is you only use one thumb key at a time on the right and only up to 4 on the left for the lowest notes ¨̮
I have been waiting forever for a Bassoon video! The fingering system is really complex and unnatural at times, but its still my favorite instrument by far. So glad to finally see my instrument finally get some love!
A played the bassoon for a week as a fun experiment, and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s like a lovecraftian monster, keys all around, like a biblically accurate oboe.
Thing ik abt a basson coming from a clarinet who started band this yr 1. WE R GETTING AT LEAST 1 IN OUR BAND!!! 😁😁 2. Mrs allens friend played it 3.its big
I have thought about utilizing a bassoon teacher to allow me to try out a bassoon, because ever since I started watching Sesame Street at 3 years old, I have loved the bassoon parts in their various musical interludes.
I play bassoon a absolutely love it! It was hard to learn since my other main instrument was the flute which is insanely different and my only resources were a beginner bassoon book and an upperclassmen who occasionally would have time off in their work schedule to join my band class (the band was split into 2 class periods) and nicer reeds are very expensive so not knowing this was a terrible idea, I bought some off Amazon (DO NOT DO THAT THE TONE QUALITY WILL SUFFER) and I couldn't really go online for bassoon tips (my parents were strictly against me going onto the internet) but after lots of trial and error, I figured it out (somehow much faster than the flute which you should never guess fingerings on or you might be unfortunate like me and not know my "B flat" was actually a G until the judge points out that all your fingerings are incorrect on a stage in front of hundreds of people at the middle school band competition you went to in 6th grade with all attention on you) and its my favorite instrument to play out of the many I am learning/already know :D
im a music ed major taking woodwind methods and i just got put on bassoon! im so excited to learn but it is a bit intimidating since im a clarinet player
You forgot the bocal! it looks like a big metal bendy straw. You put the reed on the end! You did a pretty good job of assembly though. You still wanna twist even though it’s strings. But i’m so happy! I play bassoon and i’m currently a freshman in high school! I love your content!!!!
Ik that the bass on is a double reed woodwind that has nine thumb keys, and this is really funny because right now I’m in intermission during a concert at Fiu and right before the intermission there was a bassoon soloist and he was really good
As a bassoon player it’s very chaotic, expensive(especially the reeds) and very easy to break(I put it in the case a little off where it’s supposed to be and I still don’t have it back after a week😊
As a saxophone player, i can barely imagine trying to operate two octave keys on an older sax, but a bassoon with 8 thumb keys? I''d die tryna play that lol
Fully assembled? There's two more pieces. I was always so stressed in band because I was slower to get seated than everyone else. They always started without me while I put that thing together. Then the reverse when I had to rush to my next class.
Things I remember about playing bassoon in my woodwind technique class: 1. The instrument is designed for a guy's hands. 2. A bunch of thumb keys 3. Fingerings make NO sense! They are nothing like other woodwind fingerings. 4. Me having to memorize all the fingerings to play the entire range of the instrument for part of my playing "final."
10 things i know about the bassoon as a bassoonist: 1. expensive 2. not in marching band 3. pretty long 4. reads bass clef 5. in the key of c 6. double reed 7. tons of thumb keys 8. has a bocal 9. woodwind 10. needs more players!
As a bassoonist, this hurt me to see you put them in at the same time. You’re supposed to put the shorter one (the wing joint) in first and then the longer one (the long joint) in after. Hope this helps!

I’ve heard someone call the bassoon a “musket looking oboe”
Can we add “the one from the stravinsky piece” in there
I’m actually self taught on bassoon
8. Basically a tree trunk with holes in. Also good at making fart noises.
Contrabassoon is better with that
I’m bassoon player and it is very rare to see people talking about our instrument so thank you for talking about it 😊
Mee to i just started in band

My friend used to play it! Check out the full version!
It does play in the same octive as trombone, maybe slightly lower though I think (I've only been playing for 5 months so I'm not entirely sure)
yeah we always have the exact same music 😭
@@Mrs.Allen.81the left thumb keys can be press multiple at once. but you typically only need to play one or two with one thumb, because low Bb only needs one left thumb key because that key holds the rest down. Db is the exception with the two keys with one thumb.
Mrs Allen posted about the bassoon!!!! I’ve been waiting for this such a long time!!!
FRRRR
Yeah! Check out the full version please!!
Best instrument ever, no competition
I play the bassoon in my band, and it's awesome instrument to play.
That’s a beautiful bassoon
Thanks for talking about the bassoon! It doesn’t get much recognition but I play it and love is so muchhhh
Hey Mrs. Allen, I am a bassoonist and I personally twist the two middle joints in a little bit when I put them in. Thanks for bringing this instrument to more people ❤
“VeRy nIcE” GOT ME CRYING 😂😂😂❤❤❤

Thanks for the tips! Did you see the full video?
Oh no, i didn't noticed you make longer videos also 😯. I will watch it right now. :) @@Mrs.Allen.81
Honestly Bassoon is such an amazing instrument and it sounds so beautiful plus the players who play it are talented!
Im a bassoonist and im always excited to see people talking about it!!
This is so chaotic I love it!! I play bassoon and those two long pieces are the wing joint and the long joint. I wouldn't recommend putting those in at the same time 😂
You’re right, those can be a bit tricky, check out the full video to see if I have the right embouchure 🫠

Thank you for making a video sale the bassoon. Fun fact: on some bassoon the left thumb has 9 keys.

Basson is an amazing instrument and way too underrated. Way more versatile than people understand too
That's a pretty bassoon, can't wait to get one
I love the background
It's the hardest thing that I know how to play but sooooo fun to play
We finally got my concert instrument mentioned 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥 I love bassoon and mine has exactly 24 total keys, half of them just for my thumbs
Did you check out the full video?
@ I haven’t yet but I’ll be sure to
I don’t know why but I have always found the basson pretty cool
You forgot the bocal! it looks like a big metal bendy straw. You put the reed on the end! You did a pretty good job of assembly though. You still wanna twist even though it’s strings. But i’m so happy! I play bassoon and i’m currently a freshman in high school! I love your content!!!!

I play trombone bassoon and bass clarinet but congrats for putting it together
I got to hold a bassoon at all state this year (I’m a clarinet player)
Ooooo. Can you post more bassoon content miss allen? 😊
Yes! Did you check out the full video?
I wish my band director was this funny😭😭
BASSOOOOOONN 🗣️‼️‼️‼️‼️
This is so funny. I play bassoon and I remember when I used to be like this
I’m a bassoonist. My bassoon has NINE thumb keys. I have a very love-hate relationship with this instrument.
A self-defense weapon!! It's soooo big,
I play bassoon and your supposed to put the wing joint in first and then the long joint then the bell then the bocal then the reed
I did an intercounty band and every band director when we practiced their song for the first time was like “no bassoons this year? Aw”
Awww that is so sad!
What is the worlds most expensive prank tool? A bassoon.
I already watched the full video. It was funny. (She might force me to watch it again)
My first notes on the bassoon (at 12 years old) sounded like a sick cow according to my funny and very patient band director. 🐮
As a saxophone player, i can barely imagine trying to operate two octave keys on an older sax, but a bassoon with 8 thumb keys? I''d die tryna play that lol
Right?!
All I know is that it uses a double reed and it's a woodwind 😂
It’s all fun and games until a contrabassoon comes along.
Fully assembled? There's two more pieces. I was always so stressed in band because I was slower to get seated than everyone else. They always started without me while I put that thing together. Then the reverse when I had to rush to my next class.
Check out the full version and see if I did the rest of it right, I'm really not sure!
YES I PLAY THE BASSON AND I TOTALY AGREE WITH THE COMENT BELOW ME!
One thing is it a good idea to play baritone when I start band?
My friend plays bassoon and we had to put a coat around her bassoon case when we played at a hockey game
I bet you did! That wood can be damaged in extreme temps.
@Mrs.Allen.81 yeah I helped her put it in the coat
where’d you go for college? and was it a music school or just extra band things?
I have the exact same bassoon lmao it's almost 40 years old
Cool! If you take care of something it will last forevr

THE SAME TIME 😭😭😭 I will say though, you did a fabulous job for not being a bassoonist!
Thanks, check out how I sound in the full version video!
We need a video of you playing it
It's in the full version on my channel, see if I sound okay will you?
@ ok thanks!
people have called my bassoon a flute way too many times
The basson looks hard
Nooo you put the wing (tenor) joint in first!! Then the long (bass) joint in second!!! 😭😭😭 then lock them together
The basson looks like a XL clarinet
It looks like a mix between a clarinet and saxophone… but… big.
That's crazy
Crazy
You forgot the Bocal! 😭
😭😭😭this why i don't play bassoon. My thumb has ONE key on the sax
Its so cool she let you barrow it
10 things i know about the bassoon as a bassoonist:

You're right! I'm still learning! Check out the full version and let me know if my ambusher is OK? I don’t exactly remember how to do it.
Awesome! ❤ now play the Peppa Pig theme song. 🐽
I play the bassoon for my school band. Honestly the instrument isn’t very hard once you learnt it.
A lot of bassoon players say that.
As a clarinet player, I would rather play 32nd notes at 200 bpm, then learn the bassoon
It’s a lot, I understand
Hmm must be a old bassoon because they usually have 9 thumb keys
Pancake key ;)
I play bassoon and you do not put the two long pieces in at the same time
Still learning!
It's THAT BIG??
Hi
Too many thumb keys
Early!
