  • Elisabeth In Bavaria - Empress Of Austria: Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie in Bavaria was born on December 24, 1837 and died on September, 1898. She was duchess in Bavaria and a princess of Bavaria from the house of Wittelsbach and from 24 April 1854 onwards - through her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I - she was empress of Austria. From June 8, 1867 she was also queen of Hungary.
Elisabeth is widely known by her nickname Sisi, as her family called her. She also signed her letters to intimates with this name. Sissi, with double s, is widespread because of the title of the film trilogy based on her life.
    Music from musopen.org/:
    F. Chopin - Nocturnes, Op. 32 - No. 2. Nocturne in A♭ major

I always felt bad for Sissi. I struggled with my body image as a teenage girl, and hearing how far Sissi went to look youthful and skinny as a toothpick would no doubt get her diagnosed with some kind of ED today.

With today's social media etc. Elisabeth would have been quite a star nowadays, too.

Another outstanding video! Sisi's relationship with the Emperor has been overly romanticized, in my opinion. He was madly in love with her, but it's doubtful she reciprocated his affections. The Wittelsbach Family, of which Sisi is a member, were sadly known for mental illness; no doubt poor Sisi suffered from it as well.

And the abuse from her mother in law, not to mention post partum depression and having to bury her young daughter. And a husband gives u a venereal disease. I guess I would be a mess if it were me.

Franz Joseph should have stuck with Helene. Some people are temperamentally ill suited for life as a royal and that was certainly the case with Elizabeth.

I think Sissi was too young to endure all that pressure. In addition, she did not want to become the empress and yet she was the chosen one. On the contrary, Helene who really wanted to become the empress and prepared herself for months for that role was ignored. What a paradox!

Sisi was a natural spirit. Not meant to be confined by ridiculous court pomp and circumstances

Sisi would have been happy being free from a husband or children. It's not for everyone and nothing wrong with it. Except for in her time. Poor woman

    I have two questions:
    1. Do you think she would have been happier with Maximilian (Franz Josef's brother) ?
    2. What do you think about King Ferdinand the 7th of spain ?

I kinda felt bad for both Sissi and her Mother In Law, the latter is ALWAYS portrait as strict. But in reality, she's not! Sophie of Bavaria described her daughter-in-law pleasantly in both her diaries and letters!

She definitely was a tragic figure. I suspect that she was unhappy with her role in the Austrian court.

Her evil mother in law, Sophie, took her children away and destroyed the marriage relationship with Franz Joseph. Sophie makes Cinderella’s stepmother look like a Girl Scout.

Idk after hearing the darker things about Sisi and her hair, she might have been rather shallow. Poor woman, her malnutrition probably caused more than normal hair lose. But how could she know. I still love and admire her. Craving more about Voltaire . Whenever you feel like it. Take all the time need, and if u do feel like covering him. That would be magnificent
