    What ? An old Citroën CX diesel in Mmerica ! How is it possible ? Surprising that a mmerican drivers appreciates the "comfort à la française" of an old Citroën ! There was also a Station wagon version of the CX. In Europe , especially in France, it was used as ambulance because of the great room and it needed almost no interior or exterior modifications. And the smoothness of the hydropneumatic suspension has saved the life of many patients.

    Really fabulous review. Magic car. Rust was a problem on the early CXs. Series 2 Turbo is very desirable.
    I had a 1978 CX Prestige Petrol Injection 5 speed manual with leather in Right Hand Drive with Paris tourist delivery new.
    1 year in Europe + 5 months touring Europe before shipment home to Australia.
    Preferred it to my boss' RR Silver Shadow II at four times the price. Even has footrests for the rear passengers.
    The most supreme touring car. On Aussie country roads there was nothing to equal it for high speed touring until the changed the max of 100 mph (160 kph) to 110 kph. Bummer.
    Even my 1990 2CV6 Charleston will do 115 kph with 2 cylinders and 602cc!
    Two weeks ago I took delivery of a new Citroen C4 1.2 petrol turbo 3 cylinder. The last model with the full air bumps... another great machine. Style, comfort & practicality.

    My father had this exact model when I was 5 years old. When he changed jobs and got a new car, me and my sister cried when we drove it the last time. The plates spelled EVL and we called the car Eevelientje, Dutch for 'little evelyn'.

      But I found an old CX series 2 a couple of years ago in drivable condition with the plates EWN, we also call her Evelyn!

    Manifique la CX. I had a new 1978 CX Prestige EFI 5 speed with leather delivered in Paris and brought it home to Australia. Amazing car. My passengers preferred it to my boss's new Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II. I agree that the original CXs rusted at an alarming rate even with Ziebart rust proofing. On Australian country roads it was supreme. Cruise all day at 100 mph.

    This is one of the best looking mini films I've seen of a CX, many thanks. I'm looking forward to my Safari coming back this summer after a 2 year restoration, mine's a nice quiet petrol ;-) I'd love to know what equipment was used for the aerial shots, drone & camera type etc?
    Many thanks - Formidable! Maxx

      +Jonathan Harper Aah, lovely to hear from you Jonathan, thanks for your reply. I've heard good things about the Sony A7, I've been looking at the Canon C100 mk2, especially for its amazing low-light abilities, but will have another ay the A7 now. The aerial shots were great fun, so short of employing a pro film crew to shoot my CX when it's complete, this will be a good option. My Safari will have cost me almost £40k, so she's going to look like new, even better hopefully ;-) With thanks again Maxx

    Those engines isn`t that tricky to get spunky either. Our family had citroens all our childhood and up til just a few years ago, my dad once bought a 25 trd turbo 2 with a little bit bigger turbo, adjusted fuel pump++ And clutch from a c25 (i think). That one actually pulled away from a volvo 850 t5r that was stock, must add that the turbo was adjusted a little bit higher then it allready was. It burned 2 clutches, they turned it down again.

    I recently became very interested in this car after learning about the 25GTI Turbo model Citroen brought out in 1985. Back in 2006, I had an Audi 5000 Turbo that was an absolute blast to drive (when it WORKED; hydraulic leaks kept popping up). The CX Turbo was something of an alternative to the Audi 5000 Turbo in the late ‘80’s. I appreciate European road cars, especially ones that are meant to go FAST for the Autobahn! The articles I’ve read so far suggest that the CX Turbo is quite capable at that, although it tops out at around 135MPH. If I had the money and the space, bringing a CX Turbo over here to the USA would be tempting. But another out-of-warranty European car with a central hydraulic system? This time one that was never sold in America? Call me a glutton for punishment!

      I'm here in Europe Jonathan ,so, for us here, a nice Citroen CX is still a domestic car,even if a wonderful classic,it's not so exotic like it is for you there overseas.But this car was always in my mind when a was a teen.When i was at high school my Greek and Latin professor had one,i had private lesson and he left always a nice hot blonde 20 YO younger chick in his CX waiting in the driveway... so for that reason i had since then considered that car an European panty dropper...

    • @cariusx
      @cariusx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The accumulator sphere has pressure to operate the brake around ten times if the hydraulics should somehow completely fail or the engine stalls. Also the handbrake operates the front calipers.

    • @jimmyj1969
      @jimmyj1969 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hydraulic system is designed in such a way that brakes are the last to go, in case of malfunction: first you lose power steering, then power clutch etc. (enough warnings to make you stop!) and finally the brakes...

    why does it have a factory slam setting in a family wagon?

    • @anonharingenamn
      @anonharingenamn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Peyton Artz Because it has a hydropneumatic suspension.

    • @Chillmax
      @Chillmax 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peyton Artz I think you mean by 'slam' that the suspension can be lowered to almost on the ground. I have emailed the magazine about this & said that they shouldn't have said this, as it's not accurate & in fact dangerous! The systems 'low' setting is for garage purposes & wheel changing ONLY & you must never drive in this setting as it dangerous for both the driver, at speed and for the car at any speed as damage may be caused. You can drive in the 2 higher settings (normal mode is the white line on the gauge), both are for road clearance issues, with the highest setting mainly for wheel changing & checking the hydraulic fluid (LHM), if you do drive in the high setting, it should be at a very low speed as there is no suspension travel, so it's very lumpy ;-)

    => the cx was by far the worst, it was only ok at highways
    - terrible soft sofa seats
    - too soft suspension to make fun at cury roads
    - weak and loud diesels
    - most corrosion and electronic problems
    => the xm was a joy on all roads and had not so many problems
