They stop water and rocks from being thrown into the engine bay which can cause a world of issues, especially water which can cause a nightmare of electrical issues for these cars. If these aren't intact you'll eventually end up with water in your intake, inside all the electrical connectors "because they aren't water tight" inside the headlight housings and in the battery compartment which will cause the car not to start or weird things like your alarm or door locks to start acting weird. If the car has aftermarket wheels try to find out what they are and check the price of the tires available for those wheels. Last thing you want is some odd size that have limited availability. Also make sure the wheels are Hub Centric because if not you'll need hub centric rings. If they aren't and you don't install rings you'll be replacing wheel studs every few months because the stock studs aren't made for the abuse. In most cases this wont be possible but if you can thoroughly inspect the car I would recommend pulling the plenum to pull spark plugs. Generally at about 70k the seals in the valve covers start to fail and the spark plug tubes will fill with oil and cause the plugs to foul. On the DE's this generally happens first on the driver side plug closest to the firewall. Also keep in mind that the WHOLE valve cover has to be replaced because the plug seals are pressed into the cover and aren't a serviceable part. if you're doing the replacement yourself when you purchase the valve covers also buy replacement bolts because I can almost guarantee you'll break or lose one. If you own or plan to own one find the ECU & throttle position sensor reset instructions. PRINT THEM OUT AND KEEP THEM IN YOUR GLOVE BOX. the one time you need them you will be glad that you did. The ridiculous pedal dance you have to do for these cars will make you want to strangle whoever at Nissan thought this was a good idea. Last but definitely not least BODY KITS. Just because it looks cool doesn't mean you should buy it. In my personal experience most fiberglass kits for this car fit like complete garbage and any car with one I'd personally walk away from just to save myself from the headache. Save your money and spend it on upgrades that will make the car last. If you're looking at one that has a kit check the figment and make sure its not some janky install. If its fiberglass eventually it will crack. If the plastic shields have been removed or improperly installed removing an aftermarket kit is a nightmare because the bolts rust and usually have to be cut. I still have my Nissan350z after 17yrs , it’s still my daily. Last car I had before my 350z was a Honda Civic. I got this car because of its performance and handling. It’s a great car 👍🏼
To answer your questions as to why the engine bay is designed the way it is. The short answer is most tracks require your battery and fluids to be separate from the engine. Both can suffer from heat soak and present a potential fire hazards when excessively heated so separating them from a potential ignition source is important.
one day I was driving home from work in my 04 z. It was cold as fuck, windy, snowing and just horrible. I had about 30 min before I was home. Out of nowhere my driver side window just rolled down. I was hit with a winter bukkaki in the face. And for the rest of the drive the window would not roll up. I got home, put it in the garage. Then the next day it just worked. It was like a big FU prank from my car.
You have several good points. The paint peeling off the interior side panels and dash really bug the shit out of me. Been through two factory stereos, same problem left channel lost. Bought it new in 2006, beat the living SHIT out of it. Three year warranty , Factory replaced the trans and engine. Now I drive it like an old lady, hope it lasts till I die. They are fun cars.
Bullshit. My 2004 is still MINT. But that's probably because i got the track version or... the European versions just got better paint. New price of 350z's here was like 50.000 euro though. (they only sold track editions here full option)
Window button maybe due to disconnecting the battery, you may need to reset your 1 touch windows on both sides as I've had cars where you don't set one of them it stops the button working.
Sounds like bad luck on the things that went wrong on that car. I had a Daytona Blue 350z as a daily driver for 4+ years and put 55k miles on it (drove from 50k - 105k miles). I never had one issue that wasn’t just regular maintenance. I will say 100% agree with interior quality, I upgraded to a pearlescent white 370Z and it was only marginally better inside. Good luck with the 350z I always enjoyed the car a lot.
@@LowSo please understand, I don't mean any offense. 350Z's are a Nissan/Renault product. Renault is known for pushing cheap interior and quality is 50/50 chance. The engine is all Nissan. They also have CVT transmissions. Nissan was okay with ppl working on their cars. Renault is not. They designed the body to make it difficult to work on the engine. The enclosed boxes for brake fluid and battery function as a heat shield. That is actually a good thing, but aluminum is the way to go. Ultimately, the 350Z was supposed to be the answer to us not having a mid-range sports car and the original Nissan design was great. Renault ruined it when Nissan sold them most of their US and Euro market shares. Believe it or not, Kia is moving in the right direction. The Kia stringer is a fantastic alternative that will one day be the replacement. Toyota and Nissan are on their way out in terms of quality. Hyundai is cheap. Genesis is good, Honda is still good, and Kia is good. I haven't bought a car newer than 1998. I build all my own cars. I usually recommend cars with good building potential rather than newer cheapo cars. I have a 1993 Nissan SE-R and a 2000 Honda Civic. A little modification and the only thing that has smoked me is a twin turbo porsche, understandably. New cars have so little room to improve on them. Even bolt-ons are more difficult than they used to be. But there is no use discussing electronics and interior because it is designed to fail under more than weekend use. French car companies rub me the wrong way. So I guess don't blame Nissan for the interior entirely, but do blame them for selling out to a French company.
One thing that kinda bugs me about the 350 is that I have the enthusiast touring so I have the seat heaters so when I’m shifting or resting my arm sometimes my arms hit the buttons😂
I like my 350gt ( Australia) same motor ,same as a g35 in the states. it drives real nice , power is ok , but my roadbike has 200hp so i always want more out of the 350, but in general its a nice car
Let me give you a tip. Google. Some forum gives you detailed cheap fix. 10 Dollar. There is NOTHING wrong with the window motor. Just buy RC car brushes.(the material is soft, so you can make them smaller so they fit easily) Take out the Window motor. replace the brushes and put the motor back. Recalibrate and DONE. As NEW. th-cam.com/video/PFP14d3yCQg/w-d-xo.html
i want to get rid of my lincoln ls and get a z and reason number four made me go “but right now i have to take out my whole headlight to change a bulb. i’m used to it”
All in All, it is still a bargain, I ;m an older guy, started out with a 280z in Highschool, bought the 350 when it was new in 2003, for nostalgia, I've had 2 Dodge Challengers and a GT, along with buying a used Mercedes SL 550. These Zs may have cheaper materials in them, but if you buy a used SL or Porsche 911 (you can get the used 911s between 99 and 04 for about 17 to 20K), they may have better materials, but they have all sorts of internal issues (that can cost you 10k+ in a single year). A lot easier to fix and maintain a Z, little money, it can be pretty quick also.
I have a 350Z I love it..these cars do waste gas faster than your regular 4 cylinder, but hey it’s a sports car it’s not supposed to be a gas saver... and if you don’t like interior pieces just modify it and make it your own
Can relate with the interior issue, but reaching over 150k not a single check engine light is a blessing lol, from what I’ve learned from other enthusiasts is that the cam sensor goes out a lot due to mistreatment and hard beating on the car (which we all do nobody’s gotta lie about it) but they’re typical things. One not you should put on though is living in snowy states they rust pretty quick and that getting some oe only parts are kinda hard now like the member stays that hold the rear end to the body not a cheap part and gotta get them shipped from japan 😓
I inherited a 2004 350z with about 54,000 miles on it. I had to replace the tires, the radiator fan assembly, and one of the camshaft position sensors. The car runs great but the rag top is starting to disintegrate and the window motors must be super cheap because everybody complains about them including me. The funny thing is that when I drive my car, these big trucks come along side of me and start gunning their engines like they want to race. Sorry dude, I'm not 16 years old. Go find another idiot to race you.
PickleRix Those big trucks know they can outrun you and they want to show you.. That's all that is... They KNOW you got a car you think is fast but really isnt... Those big V8 4 wheel drive trucks are the modern day muscle cars... They get around all the muscle car loopholes by making these trucks perform... Those lifted trucks with the big super swamped tires will walk your 350 down the road...
Lowso The new muscle cars are hitting on super car levels now.. Their prices reflect that.. The 2018 Mustang GT with the auto transmission can hit 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds now... They run with lower end Lamborghinis and Ferraris with no mods... I'm talking Camaros and Mustangs.. They are also killing it on race tracks.. These aren't big heavy clunky cars like they were in the past... The new trucks took that spot.. These new generations will run with the best cars in the world... The trucks aren't anything to laugh at too.. Big V8 with 4 wheel drive launch in these new aluminum framed trucks... They are faster than you think...
Nah those big ass trucks weigh a stupid fuck ton and aren’t that powerful like they are but they’re not meant for racing by any means. My old buddy beat a Cummins and a couple others (not a truck guy) and smacked them with a shit b series Honda Civic that was practically falling apart. And beat all of them by at least a car length. A Z would smack them stock to stock.
I just replaced the other camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft sensor. The hardest part is getting the camshaft position sensor connector to release on the driver's side using one hand. The driver's side camshaft position sensor can be replaced from the passenger side of the engine without removing the throttle body and air cleaner tube assembly. The crankshaft sensor is easy to replace on the bottom/driver's side of the car.
Found 2 350z on sale but I’m sad that the sellers wouldn’t throw in a vape pen or a supreme bumper sticker...it’s a must with all cheap sports car imo.
Meh. Interiors will naturally degrade over time, especially if you leave your car in the sun on a hot summer day. Best way to preserve it is tint your windows to filter most of the heat and sunlight. As for check engine light coming on, everyone should own an OBD2 reader to diagnose the trouble codes.
I was in the bmw forums for more than 10 years...we are known to be d bags...but we got alone and always pushing it...my350z forum? A whole bunch of frustrated people dreaming about pro racing in a car proven to have no power to compete on any category...my car has tons of power and enjoy the street driving....but from engine to tail...everything has failed at least once..if not twice. Great video dude, very on point. Dont buy this car because everybody abuses this car...engine is a gamble....
had a 1.8L mk1 mx5 for over 3 years now, still heaps fun and absolutely love it! But a 350z will 100% be the next car soon! Surely the power difference would feel mad going from ~130hp to >250hp?? Anyone done this upgrade?
Same with my gti. Its got a misfire on cyl 2, so i changed the spark plugs and coils, a brand new timing kit, new fuel injectors and cleaned the cyl heads, brand new intake gasket, running on 93 octane fuel, still misfires. And its gotten actually a little worse.

No. Open deck motor not boost friendly. Had an APS extreme twin on my 06, started with a fresh built motor and got 50k miles on 18lbs boost before a rod decided up and down wasn't fun anymore
longrange 717 well wtf did you expect? Mine has been boosted for 20k+ miles, keep it under 400whp and it won’t blow, keep it around 400-450whp and it will be good for awhile. 18 psi was def wayyy to fucking much, shoudve put in rods and pistons
I bought my z a couple years ago and made a showcar on airlift out of it. To be completely honest it’s been one the most expensive and unrewarding car I’ve owned and that’s just my honest opinion. I tell everyone to stay as far away as possible lol
Manufacturers do a lot of the engine bay stuff to make it difficult for the average joe to do work so dealerships make the money. Like most everything else we buy
Good news for you , hope this helps you feel better , the truth is out of all the Cars I had and went thru they all have their own different problems just like how you were describing, some so ridiculous, some are small, some just doesn't make sense, some of the problems are cheap and some are very expensive, like your friends Car thier can be 26 sensors that can turn that check engine light on, long story short every Car sooner or later will have some kind of problem, I hope this truth made you feel better and also if your car is worth 12000.00 or 12million guess which Car Is going to cost more to fix, if you didn't know that now you know from Joey in Honolulu , Honolulu , Hawaii , Aloha 😎

Bro, my passenger side window won’t go up, I bought a new motor thinking that was the problem, which might have been half of it. Now the window only goes up 75% of the way. I tried to take it out and put it in again and now it won’t go up at all. I’m trying again today, hopefully I can find out what’s wrong with it. Edit:Still love my 350, sexy af.
Jonathan N the passenger window in my 350z usually doesn’t go up or down, sometimes depending on how the door is bumped it will go down and get stuck on its own. Haven’t looked into it too much yet
You have the power of google.(but you don't use it...) I fixed my Window motor with placing new Brushes. I bought Radio Control Car motor brushes. (They mostly too large, just make them a bit smaller) I fixed my motor for 10 dollar. :) LOL Many things are cheap fixes. But people just do not GOOGLE. Sad. Do not ever replace the motor. The motor is just fine. The brushes just wear out. Because the window goes up and down everytime you step inside. Subwoofer doesn't work anymore ? 3 dollar fix by buying a relay and do some solder work. You bought a new motor. But you should RECALIBRATE the window ! You forgot that. That's why it stuck at 75%. Good luck. I feel sorry for you waisting so much money on a new motor. The most expensive thing on my 350z was a broken ignition coil 125 euro. And i already put 200.000 Kilometers on it. The rest was just regular wear and cheap fixes. The 350z is a super reliable car.
So far no problems with the windows going up and down except the day I accidentally hit that child safety switch. I've had issues with door locks. The key fob will open both doors but from inside the car the button on the driver's door will not open the passenger door. I have since discovered that the key will not manually lock/unlock the door and I also noticed some self-tapping screws in the handle so it appears the previous owner did something in there. Someday I have to force myself to get in there and see what's going on before I get locked out with no way to get back in. (I'm afraid of what I might find after the mess I found in the wiring harness for the radio after it kept discharging the battery.) Yeah, the interior trim paint is one of those things the car is known for. It's almost like they used a peel coat on it. That was a definite "fail" for the company there. I was surprised you didn't mention how much fun it is to change headlights/turn signals/etc.
My problem with my z is the electrical issue in the door windows. I heard this is a common issue with the Z also the HIDs I love HID but am thinking of going LED to get rid of the HID because their rediculous now and trying to get to the bulb is dumb because you have to remove the bumper to do it. But even with all of its problems I don't think I'll ever get rid of it I love it so much.
Lol #1 on the top 5 not to buy it should be the absolute worst rear and 3/4 visibility when checking blind spots...that’s a guessing game in a 350/370.

I’ve turbod mine. 400whp
Dude. I don't think anyone in the back heard ya. Best comment thus far.
So basically it’s just your opinion it’s not actually bad stuff
I mean not all cars r perfect
Getting mine tomorrow morning geeked asl bro
How is the car?
diddyholz judging by the no comment. He had all to much fun lol
I actually love the fact the engine bay is cleaned up with the two covers, makes the whole bay look fresh and no mess.
one day I was driving home from work in my 04 z.
Paint is just trash on the interior of these cars glad paint helps
Bullshit. My 2004 is still MINT. But that's probably because i got the track version or... the European versions just got better paint. New price of 350z's here was like 50.000 euro though. (they only sold track editions here full option)
No the 03 and 04 had perfect paint
For your window button...Disconnect your battery and reconnect it drive a couple hundred miles and it should work that’s what happens with my g35
He has much to learn about cars and the real world lol
Truth 😂
Lowso professional mechanic but can’t fix a couple buttons for power windows?
Best Lee Sin NA ok shut up boomer
One thing that kinda bugs me about the 350 is that I have the enthusiast touring so I have the seat heaters so when I’m shifting or resting my arm sometimes my arms hit the buttons😂
I'm still wanna get one...
Fast and furious never made it look super quick. It was the DRIFT king. Which it is a good drift car.
💥💥
DK 350z was over 600hp .so it was fast and a monster at drifting
I like my 350gt ( Australia) same motor ,same as a g35 in the states.
it drives real nice , power is ok , but my roadbike has 200hp so i always want more out of the 350, but in general its a nice car
I just bought one 😋 am in love!!
Lowso The '08 Base model !!! the window motors do wear out fast though ny drivers side window goes down half way if you roll it up 😂 Ill fix it soon!
As NEW. th-cam.com/video/PFP14d3yCQg/w-d-xo.html
yup...mine was a bit used and needed some fixin' but it's worth it..they are easy to repair and don't cost an arm and a leg..
I was thinking of buying one but thanks to you I've changed my mind. Lol.
No but it please it’s worth it Their is always a negative and positive to everything
i want to get rid of my lincoln ls and get a z and reason number four made me go “but right now i have to take out my whole headlight to change a bulb. i’m used to it”
All in All, it is still a bargain, I ;m an older guy, started out with a 280z in Highschool, bought the 350 when it was new in 2003, for nostalgia, I've had 2 Dodge Challengers and a GT, along with buying a used Mercedes SL 550. These Zs may have cheaper materials in them, but if you buy a used SL or Porsche 911 (you can get the used 911s between 99 and 04 for about 17 to 20K), they may have better materials, but they have all sorts of internal issues (that can cost you 10k+ in a single year). A lot easier to fix and maintain a Z, little money, it can be pretty quick also.
the forum part had me dying 😂
Buy a used car you're going to have to put in some maintenance. Besides you can still buy new plastics if it bothers you that much.
I have a 350Z I love it..these cars do waste gas faster than your regular 4 cylinder, but hey it’s a sports car it’s not supposed to be a gas saver... and if you don’t like interior pieces just modify it and make it your own
Just bought mine customized already from and I’m so happy
Can relate with the interior issue, but reaching over 150k not a single check engine light is a blessing lol, from what I’ve learned from other enthusiasts is that the cam sensor goes out a lot due to mistreatment and hard beating on the car (which we all do nobody’s gotta lie about it) but they’re typical things. One not you should put on though is living in snowy states they rust pretty quick and that getting some oe only parts are kinda hard now like the member stays that hold the rear end to the body not a cheap part and gotta get them shipped from japan 😓
I have an 04 since 04 no problems with chipping paint, no check engine lights and it’s turbo charged also have a 370z Nismo I like em.
Morey Cohen sweet man! I love a good turbo Z
Found one for 20k locally. Test drove it and decided to go 100 miles out of my way to get a charger RT.
Good choice, and I'm JDM biased. The 350Z is a dog, and for $20k Id laugh in the sellers face
Ps. Buying a z in the next couple weeks.
Must be some grandmas selling them or something. Ask them for some granny poontang
Your review was awesome, thx. I’m looking to get my next toy and I really want one of these.
I'm buying one for my Birthday next month 😎
Did you get one?
Meh. Interiors will naturally degrade over time, especially if you leave your car in the sun on a hot summer day. Best way to preserve it is tint your windows to filter most of the heat and sunlight. As for check engine light coming on, everyone should own an OBD2 reader to diagnose the trouble codes.
I mean most are 10-16 years old. I think we can agree that small things will need to start being replaced on any car around this age.
I driving an 05 the problem might be your key fob if you have a second start there.
your production quality has gone up since that five reasons to buy vid nicely done
had a 1.8L mk1 mx5 for over 3 years now, still heaps fun and absolutely love it! But a 350z will 100% be the next car soon! Surely the power difference would feel mad going from ~130hp to >250hp?? Anyone done this upgrade?
It feels amazing I remember when I went from a 98 audi a4 probably like 120 hp to an 08 acura tl type s 280 hp
The engine motors burn out. pretty common thing actually, theyre like 50 bucks, might as well buy a few and have them in stock in case they go out on a bad day
Its A DE Buddy
Okay and?
Arturo Rios DE>HR
Nissan was very reliable company until they merge with Renault back in 1999. That's when there quality went downhill.
I have a 08 hr San Marino Blue touring edition
And i agee with what you say
The cabin clatter sucks
The interior could of been just black or tan plastics
My paint sucks and needs to be sanded and re-clear coat it
Everything is chipping or tarnishing but i still like it
Correction, brand new back in the day that car costs 30K !
Also door handle mechanism goes bad all the time
I haven't seen a car that didnt break, whether it's a 500000 to 1000
#1 its a Nissan, its like the Pontiac of Japanese cars
If you're looking to get one of these while youre in high school do it. Fun as f I got one year left with this car fun as f decent daily driver.
This info is really helpful. Thx
one more comment definitely the 350Z Facebook group page has to be the most toxic car page lol
Wait until you install a turbo kit.
Dude about to get me one in 2 weeks!
did u get it ? how has it been going
love your videos b. saving up rn to buy a Z ❤️
Manufacturers do a lot of the engine bay stuff to make it difficult for the average joe to do work so dealerships make the money. Like most everything else we buy
When I roll up the window on my Z it rolls itself halfway down and stops. So I have to roll it up and take the key out immediately.
Just do the window regulator reset procedure, google it. Thats your problem only.
I’m glad with what I bought it’s a Touring 04 350Z
7EVENHypebeast Same!
My favorite V6 of all time !!!!! had a HR, had to sell it because no car seat...weaned i had my fist new born, had to go.... no i got a 370z for the win !!! because i can afford 4 cars now LOL
You sound successful, good job
Still buying one in a few months (January 2020)
@@LowSo I hope too, but this is a child dream, it has to work well 👌
@@alex-ragnarson3482 nice dude i bought the vw r32 also a dream car. Would've got a 350 but i have a mrs and im also leaving room for a child it it happens in the near future (also i drive out of the 2 of us)
The only reason to not buy a 350z is if you can get a 370z or don't like them that's literally it they are fantastic cars
Dont get the 03 04 z's. Seen so many problems with them. From 05 and up their reliable. The 07 and up is a beast
What’s wrong w the 04 ones
Sean Woodson yeah what’s wrong with the 04
Hayes Jackson its the 05 and 06 rev ups they burn oil to much but 04 and 03 hv good engines
The 350z is supposedly a mid engine setup that's why it's the way it is with little to no room.
One thing I heard which is big with these cars is the insurance rates..
How _expensive_ can it *_really_* get?
Idk bout that mine is only 500 every 6 months and it's an 06 with 80miles
I got an 05 and just turned 18 as a “new driver” under the insurance and only pay $180 for full coverage
I’m 21 with nothing on my record and mine was $230 a month for full coverage, which was the cheapest I found.
Honestly insurance depends on the state
100$ liability only under my dad's name 😂 I don't race it much it is my daily though live in Houstob Texas🤘🏻
Why I shouldn't buy a 350Z is because any minivan will come and crash into me and kill me and or whoever's else is inside. That's what I learned last year.
I know this is an old video but I’m trying to build my 03 350z up and I noticed you said you’re in the DMV area so I was hoping you could give me some tips and tricks to smooth out the process
Keep putting out 🔥🔥🔥 vids!!
Bro just look up how to reset it it’s not hard it fixed the bouncing problem on window
The motor has to be calibrated
(I'm afraid of what I might find after the mess I found in the wiring harness for the radio after it kept discharging the battery.)
Yeah, the interior trim paint is one of those things the car is known for. It's almost like they used a peel coat on it. That was a definite "fail" for the company there.
I was surprised you didn't mention how much fun it is to change headlights/turn signals/etc.
350Z 2006 here very reliable car.
My door won’t open, I’m sure the cable fell in the door
Casey Mckoy i had the same problem, I replaced the door handle and good as new. There’s a plastic piece inside that broke on mine
You forgot to mention that it would cause crashes cus of how nasty it sounds 😉
Lol the cam position sensor 🤦🏽♂️ doing that on a g35 was a joke
I love how his other video is 5 reason to buy one like okay
Thinking about getting one my mechanic has a 350z..it's has full exhaust sounds good ..4500..I think imma get it
So in germany we need to pay over 10k to get something good so it is not worth of buying?
Dude you are a queen with tattoos 😂😂
Fast & furious showed cars with very good upgrades. Not all cars in those movie would be stock cars 😛
Lol #1 on the top 5 not to buy it should be the absolute worst rear and 3/4 visibility when checking blind spots...that’s a guessing game in a 350/370.
The entire z line up since a z31 has horrible engine bay...
Redemptionizer 318 nope
