  • All You Need Is Love is one of the most familiar and beloved Beatles songs. But there's a heated debate over who is singing the callback to "She Loves You" during the wild conclusion of the song. But we have a unique piece of evidence that may solve this mystery once and for all: video of the actual recording, broadcast live around the globe in 1967 during BBC's Our World.
    And as a warning, once you hear (and see!) it...you can't unhear this.

    Paul cued it in, they both sing it. I’ve been listening to this song since I was a kid (on vinyl) and didn’t even know it was a question! As you touch on, it’s funny that we think of the She Loves You callback as so far in their past and yet it was only released 4 years later. Personally I’m pretty much the same as I was 4 years ago. These guys grew so much it’s almost unbelievable.

    • @GuajoloteGonzales
      @GuajoloteGonzales ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yep, and that happens because of the closeness of their vocal registers, both were tenors, but Paul was an spinto when he was young and John was a dramatic one, that makes their voices sound so similar sometimes, another proof of that is the second voice on "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party", some people have speculated that it was George or that it was John making a lower harmony, but it was actually Paul imitating John's voice.

    • @urwholefamilydied

      and paul sang it with his mic away from him how??? Just John sang it. Sounds like john and all the evidence is john. Why do we have to root for Paul McCartney on every little thing?? Paul did not sing on this one except background vocals in the actual song.

    • @rickdagrexican7351
      @rickdagrexican7351 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not how microphones work. Paul was singing, but all I ever heard, from the first time I listened to it, was John singing. I love it that Paul was singing along with him, but with his mic pointed toward John, his voice is all we hear.
      How do I know? Two hours ago I was mixing a five-piece band with five vocalists. They didn't perform any Beatles songs tonight, but they have in the past, but they NAILED the Eagles version of Seven Bridges Road. A song or two later and they pulled out Longest Time by Billy Joel. Plus some soul, roots and originals. These guys can JAM. Look for Woosh out of Chicago if you're interested. ✌❤🎶

      John was in New York after Sgt Pepper, & before going to India. A reporter asked him about the future of the Beatles. He said he could not see himself in the group at 30. After finishing work on "The End", (a song on the album Abbey Road), on August 18, 1969, Lennon informed his bandmates that he was leaving on September 20th. This would be one month before Lennon's 29th birthday. The band did not know what he meant by this, but he never came back.

    The existence of a "Beatle Supervoice", given by John AND Paul unison also mimicking each one timbers, has been so much underrated even by the best known Beatles musical reviewers, such as Ian MacDonald. In fact he did not noticed that the supervoice is used in virtually all early co-penned singles and at least a half of LP Beatles for Sale (No Reply, Eight Days A Week and Every Little Thing among others). This subject would deserve a Chapter of your Beatle history.

    The Beatles are famous for using that U47 microphone in omni, so that the sound is picked up from all directions. It is common that they’ve all sang together into this microphone to save track space and eventually became iconic to their sound. I think people are getting confused by who’s singing because a lot of the time it’s more than one member. I wouldn’t be surprised if the overdubs in this song were started by Paul McCartney and everyone joined in. I definitely hear Ringo in there too

A couple of points - the guy in the purple shirt who looks like ‘Keef’ and hits Paul’s mic stand is Tony Bramwell, who had been with them since Liverpool and worked for Brian, I believe Brian’s death should be more accurately referred to as ‘drug overdose’ rather than ‘suicide’ as it’s commonly accepted there’s a strong argument that it was accidental, and finally - I always thought it was John singing ‘She Loves You’, because it sounds like John! Brian's death seems to have been by misadventure. He was unhappy for a long time, and under the influence of pills, but he had plenty of reasons to live (like his devotion to his mother Queenie, his ongoing business ventures, a very successful year for the Beatles, a favorable resolution to the long-festering Sealtaeb dispute). Like a lot of prescription drug abusers, he was prone to misreading dosages and taking them in excess. That's what police determined in 1967, and nothing has changed that since.

    Hehe, your videos are so much fun to watch, being an original Beatles fan, these are great revelations. Ty. I think it’s Paul first then predominantly John given the rasp is quite revealing.

    The footage of John singing it during the “rehearsal” would imply that maybe it was John’s tongue-in-cheek idea, and it certainly seems more like something he would come up with, especially after the announcer implies that it’s a new song, “offered to the whole world” … definitely John’s sense of humor.

    i read or heard somewhere that the reason that the “she loves you” part was originally added was because john thought that “all you need is love” would be their last song, to end it on a sort of high note (pun intended)

    I think it's actually John, you can hear it at the second "yeah" with the classic John raspy voice

      I’m so confused as to why you people are commenting, still speculating that it’s just John. Did you not watch the damn video at all???

    wow this is an awesome video. kudos for catching something so unique that nobody noticed before! i'm really impressed with you. i was a teenage beatle fan in the early '70's in salt lake city. if you had advertised this as a midnight-weekend showing at the broadway theatre, you would have sold-out both shows. to see footage of the beatles back then was impossible. they would show 'yellow submarine' every 4th of july. that 10 sec of the beatles at the very end of the film was all the beatles we got to see.

    Another thing i noticed is that around the 27 second mark in the album version, the one that was remastered 2009, you hear in the right channel someone say "check," maybe a sound engineer or maybe one of them.

    I think John sings the whole bit. The voice doesn’t change throughout the bit. Also, you can hear a GLIMPSE of John’s iconic raspy voice.

    Seems to me that Paul started "She Loves You" honoring John's talent, because John honored Paul by stanting to sing "Yesterday" a few seconds before.

    The Beatles also did work with Indian musician Ravi Shankar 3 of my favourite songs The Beatles did with Ravi Shankar are “The Inner Light” (track 6 on the Past Masters volume 2 album), Love You Too (track 4 on both Revolver and The Yellow Submarine soundtrack) and Within You Without You (track 8 on Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band)
