"Do Overs"
Welcome back to another BobBlast!
This week's BobBlast is all about Do Overs… Re-painting over paintings that just didn't make it the first time around! I could either re-gesso the entire canvas and start over again - or, like in this Blast, my exercise is in giving these painting a second chance, with another go around of painting in a looser, freer direction. My Do Overs - I figure they can only get better!
For this video, I selected five canvases I felt were over-painted; they lost their initial spontaneity and vibrance. That was my goal - to be fun and upbeat. But what I ended up was overpainted and somewhat muddy in places. I hung all five canvases in a row, so I could study them first. Spending a bit of time with them and really looking, I found a concept for continuing each of them.
So, this time I decided to go for a strong graphic image against a muted background, stressing
Simple, Strong and Memorable.
Give yourself a Do Over Day! Continue to only repaint on those paintings all day. Everybody deserves a second chance, and this time - it’s your paintings!
