If you look at that complete performance, you’d see Whitney singing along with him the second time and she’s still showing her power and pitch. Outsinging is not just about hitting louder vocals. Mariah has outsing Patti and others in nearly any same song they had covered, and it's not about louder nor higher vocal note hitted. lol overall vocal musicality, artistry and style is what make a singing better than another one, not just who did the most powerful vocals or highest note. Vanessa Williams outsings Christina in her rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas despite Christina did extravagant power vocals and acrobatics, same on The Star Spangled Banner and many more. People are so much obssessed with loud vocals today that they are titally confused about hreat singing and singing loud vocals. Outsinging = to outdo or surpass in singing : to sing better than ×.
