Yeah. The republic ship is more open and the Droids have the droideka to rush.
I think the droidekas make a big difference. You can just roll through with them and do a ton of damage

I'm not sure about PC (I'm on Xbox) but as there's modding on PC, I'd assume it's probably got more of a community there.

Try changing between the different server regions (ping) in options menu at the main menu, then matchmake on each server until you get a match. I used to do that on BF 2015, maybe it'll work for BF 2017 as well but idk.
