Yes, we can. You're right. I might switch, but we received the ghost antenna from Midland to try out. I have the whip antenna on the jeep. Thanks for watching!
sorry. I will do a video to show it, but for now, just place a ring terminal on a ground wire to be placed on the antenna connection. Get a ring terminal large enough for the screw/bolt to go through. Then run the ground wire to a grounding point, whether a grounding bolt, bus bar or somewhere on your frame.
Glad to see that you are putting in a Midland GMRS radio you will enjoy having one. I have one and love it. I should have bought the 40 watt radio but did not. Am I missing something. You said you took out a CB radio. So the power wires should have been already there for you to use, as well as a hole in the RV for your antenna. Assuming you new antenna was gong close to where your old CB antenna was
Our RV manual says there should have been dedicated CB wires for power in the harness under our dash. I think the previous owners already tapped into them for something else. That's why I had to run new power. there was never a cb on the RV. I had a cb in the Jeep. Thanks for watching!
On the antenna mount, it has to be grounded and some sort of ground plane. If not, you will have high SWR and a real good chance you will fry the finals. Also, you will get better distance with good SWR compared to high SWR and no ground plane. Otherwise, nice Install. Mike. N2JVE
The privacy codes aren't really private. The CTCSS and DCS only allow you and your party to hear one another.. Anyone with a GMRS Radio or a scanner can still monitor all tranmissions. As far as matching antennas, I would still keep an SWR METER HANDY. After all the feedline or coax may go bad and you don't need that power reflecting back to the radio.
Good install, I'm researching it myself for my own coach. Everything looks good, however what did you use as a ground plane for the antenna? Doesn't seem like there's anything in that area of your RV for a ground plane, which is my main issue with mounting an antenna on the coach.
you'll need to run a grounding wire. I used 18 guage wire and ran it to a ground connection under the driver side. Pain in the butt, but it's been working fine. Thanks for watching!
On that rv antenna mount you can still use a longer gain antenna and not have clearance issues

NICE!
You'd also get better performance out of that stubby antenna if it was on top of the RV without obstructions all around it
NICE! 🤩
