    Wow what an incredible place! Thanks for showcasing it! It's funny to think it started off as a chinese market garden, turned in a bowling club, only then to be turned back into a garden. Just goes to show how much more important a market garden is to a community!

    this is what the old backyard use to be ....dad out weeding and watering and planting the kids running around and knowing that that was normal... where veg came from and hard work was always there to teach you....

    Imagine if local councils prioritised giving space to community gardens rather than more and more tiny, concrete box 'apartments' that seem to be springing up everywhere. It could be so transformative.

      People need a place to live though, and our population is growing non stop. I think the two can exist together.

    This is awesome!
    I wonder what the member “picking” rules are to balance it out so it’s fair.

    Councils have so much unused growing space! People doing community service should be put to work making beautiful gardens instead of mowing grass. A lawn is a place where neither life or death is allowed to happen. Get them used to nurturing life and it might just reduce recidivism.

    • @tjmarx
      @tjmarx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're living in a bit of a fantasy land mate. Our green spaces are useful for so much more than a vege patch might be. To imagine there's no life or death in a lawn is out of touch with reality. Are you aware the efficiency with which lawn captures carbon emissions? People too need spaces to run, to lazy in the sun, to play sport and be active and to enjoy nature. These things help with mental health and directly contribute to lowering crime rates.
      The life in a council park is quite remarkable. All sorts of native critters whom need this kind of habitat.
      Perhaps the biggest crush to your idea though is there's an exceptionally good reason why the garden in this video has 9ft tall security fencing the whole way around. I'll give you a hint, it isn't about thefts.
      Nothing stopping you from starting your own backyard garden, or joining your local council's compost and gardening club.

      @@tjmarxall valid points an no disrespect, however u have missed a significantly important fact, when humans dont eat they die...

    • @tjmarx
      @tjmarx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benschulz3871 I'm sorry ben, but whilst it is indeed true that animals require sustenance to live we already have an abundance of food supply in our country. The point of rates isn't to feed you, go to the supermarket like a normal person.
      No disrespect Ben, but that was a very silly argument to reply with. We need our green spaces, they make our cities some of the most livable cities in the world and our green spaces are an international model other countries try to duplicate.
      If you want to grow vegetables, that's what your backyard is for (or balcony if you have the misfortune of living in high density housing).

      @@tjmarx yeah maybe im biased i dunno but all I can say for sure is ive overcome ptsd and a lot of addiction by learning how to grow an then growing all my own food .. it's changed my life ive never been happier and feel full of purpose... I havnt been to a supermarket in over 12 months ... there is a massive difference in eating food from a shop that just keeps u alive vs fresh food that actually makes u feel good and not have a need to go play sport or drink or anything else that serves no purpose other then wasting resources and destroying the earth.....maybe we are having two different arguments here i dunno but its clear u are yet to learn about the benefits of growing an eating fresh food... maybe u live in the city an only find peace in a parkland and that is fine, just be aware that having a parkland with fresh food in it will blow ur mind 💚
