I'm so happy to see so many new videos popping out for Cataclysm Classic and how many people are excited about the inevitable release :D I've been doing preparation for classic's release on a fresh private server that came out a few months back and can't wait for release
Really looking forward to cata tbh also what u didnt mention is that alot of key abilities are now gained at a much lower level wich makes lvling much more enjoyable imo
It was the main thing that took a "whack a mole" spec where you hit what lit up to something you actually had to think about and plan ahead. Most people hate it but Cata is my favorite iteration of Ret, and I don't think it would be the same without it.
@@naejimba the whole wack a more was fine. Inquisition was so hated it was screamed to be removed constantly. A holy version of rogue's slice and dice was never a good. Espically when ret mastery already inscreased holy damage. Not only was it redundant but it was just never fun or interesting.

It forces you to plan ahead and you are punished for mistakes. Now, I love that to death, but for most paladins that is not the class they signed up for... so I get it.
Scott I would love for you to do shamans next. I don’t think the DPS specs get a lot of love, but I would love for you to sink some time into restoration, as I’m extremely excited that soec specifically. I was my main in t11 and I have fond memories that I hope others experience
My only gripe is that Ret should generate a HP with Divine Storm at 3 targets… I do with Exorcism procs also generated HP so that you wouldn’t have to use fillers so much at low heat levels but this is solved by haste of course.
Cata Pally was the fucking BEST. God, I loved how interactive Ret was. There was no downtime where you were waiting for an auto attack, you were ALWAYS proccing something.
And this is when I started to hate playing my paladin and had to quit playing it because it was no longer enjoyable. I am playing AGAIN a paladin in classic, and I pray every day that if they move forward they won't do the same mistakes and keep the woltk talents.. there is a reason Inquisition was deleted from the game and so many other changes done in Cataclysm, if we wanted to play rogues we would have played a rogue. I have to live to another similar experience in Legion when Blizzard deleted discipline priests from the game and replace it by something else. I also remember how sucky it was when i couldn't use divine storm freely in low level dungeons and needed to build holy power to aggro everything.. that was sad. I did play paladin until the end of cata and killed heroic madness, then in mop decided to try mistweaver monk because i had zero fun as retribution with like 13 abilities to use in a fight.

I like playing things like Shadow or Affliction where you are spinning plates and thinking ahead, and that is EXACTLY what holy power/inquisition did to the spec. Most people love Legion Shadow, but to me as a long time Shadow player it felt like it was no longer the spec I signed up to play and the thing I loved had died. I understand where you are coming from even if we don't enjoy the same things. If they release Cata it will be with the Cata talents and 4.3 patch. If you want to keep going into Cata, I would suggest looking into the other classes/specs when you get some time. You can even make max lvl toons on a private server and test things out. It would be a shame to find yourself miserable again and there are a lot of fun specs. So what is it about Paladin that you like? What other classes are you interested in? I've done most things on Cata p servers so I could give you some good suggestions to help. =)
I'm glad you're pumping these videos out now, so I can plan ahead. Impatiently waiting for the professions one though. Seems like a lot of professions get decent benefits, just curious what I need to stock up on and if it will be another meta situation
Without a doubt the most disgusting things I've ever done in bgs was on Cata Ret... I would ride around the ramp in WSG, jump into their gy and farm them as they spawned. XD
very useful for someone that is going to play ret for the 1st time to introduce them to the changes and give them a quick overall on how to use the abilities, however some of the thing you said don't work like that when it come to the DPSing as ret. And when you master the spec and learn the boss fights, as you say, it will be a monster and very few classes will be above you on the DPS meters.
One thing about auras is that holy paladin will usually use Resistance Aura, because of Aura Mastery boost. Other minor thing about auras, unless you have 4 paladins in raid, you will not see retribution Aura too often, simply because Resi, Devo and Conce Auras are way more important.
This serves as a good reminder for me not to invest too much time into my Paladin and get attached to it this time around. I had forgotten how absolutely atrocious holy power felt coming from Wrath.
yes, I will never play paladin again in cata... that's assuming I play it. Not planning to at all in fact! Yeah holy power was god awefull to manage as well as all your mana use! Just trying to figure out where to put everything and remembering where it was on your keybinds was miserable! NEVER again in Cata!
I always hated using light of dawn, such an awkward spell to land. I can’t wait for the holy radiance and guardian of ancient kings tho. It was such a shame when they nerfed holy radiance in WoD I think
Funny because that is what made Ret click for me. I felt the same way though about Shadow after the Legion changes... it's an iteration everyone seems to love, but to me it's just not the spec I signed up to play. So I get you 100%. I did also enjoy me some resto druid in Cata... mostly PvP it was a blast.
The biggest issue for me is the last third of holy is useless for holy dps, but you have to finish the tree, or lose a holy dps source by finishing prot… which also has a lot of dead skills for holy dps, but has less dead skills than ret.
As someone who loves the idea of being a melee healer I am greatly looking forward to the Cata Holy Pala. Seems like it'll be very exciting and solve many clutches if you play it right.
First time I main'd a pally was in cata from firelands thru the first 2 tiers of MoP. I was Holy spec and it was a ton of fun. I remember being able to solo heal heroic 25m Ultraxion at some point.
Don’t sleep on the new holy mastery called illuminated healing. Every time you heal, you generate a bubble. It’s a built in valnyr. And you can stack it upon itself.
In cata you can clearly see the difference between a good player and a casual one - thats why is received so negatively, for many players it is simply too difficult, more difficult than wotlk or tbc. It often required to relearn your class spec or rotation and for some players its too much
This is true; Cata and MoP have the largest gap between skilled and non skilled players and especially with Legion and onward they started adding a ton of RNG to everything to reduce this gap. The good news is that means you can play what you want.... I've topped the charts as Cata Shadow on a private server (the lowest viable DPS) simply because I knew my class better than the other people playing the "OP" specs. Skill is everything.
I will be honest. As someone who played all paladin specs since TBC, I can't wait for cata. All 3 specs got SO much better in terms of gameplay. I don't really like the 4.3 Holy Radiance but that's only because you could literally spam it in Dragon Soul and top hps with it but that only happened because in most of Dragon Soul fights the whole raid is stacked. I will 100% play with both my paladins (because I have 2) for the first 2 tiers. I loved BWD/BoT(not you Tot4W) and FL but hated DS with passion. So after FL i'm out or I'll just play another class. Also, mana management became a thing in early cata and that was such a refreshing change compared to WotlK.
Thanks Odin, they might change the gameplay and the talents from the classes and we might not see them as we already know. We might see something different then it used to be back in the day.
I saw a report recently that said Blizzard was not working on Cata Classic and currently doesn't have plans to. Not that they won't but it's not currently on their radar. Do you have different info? I really hope we get Cata Classic.. not that Cata was that amazing but so we can get one expansion closer to Pandaria. I took a break after Cata and only dabbled in retail since then.. would really love to get to experience MoP as it was.
Paladins are a class that's been at the core of the IP since warcraft 2 and they're kind of iconic since the most prolific character of the Warcraft universe was one but got corrupted. I don't think of a character when thinking of warrior or hunter but I think of Uther, Arthas and Tyrion fordring when thinking paladin. Add to that the hybrid utility the class brings such as if geaered can heal, dps and tank. the closest concept to FFXIV s job system where you could just change to what role is needed. it really sucks that they are changing so much about Paladins as if they don't HAVE a class identity at all. for example - I always imagined Mana to be a spiritual resource, so the warrior that uses their spiritual side or feelings to power their combat maneuvers is distinct from a savage Warrior or any other class. yet the new resources kind of disconnects those aspects. I don't like it in an aesthetical aspect of the class.
I stopped playing in vanilla after Wotlk and I main ret now in classic and damn ret seems so overwhelming. Feels like Blizzard just went total apeshit and threw in too much abilities and changes in one expansion. I get what they were trying to do to make the gameplay more intense and engaging. The learning curve is gonna be so long if you even ever will get the hang of it 100%
As a ret player since original 3.3 wrath, i hated holy power and most changes that came with Cata... i really loved the raids tho... and it was my first time reaching 2k rating in arenas. 🤷🏽♂️
I loved my holy pally all the way from vanilla. I loved my pally in WotLK - it was fantastic. I loved playing a paladin. I left 3 months after Cataclysm came in and didn't come back till pre-panda. I have never played a paladin since. Blizzard killed my Paladin in Cata...
I stopped playing Ret on my pally in cata. Went prot. I didnt pick up Ret again till DF. I made a new char and leveled a Ret pally up from 1. Because i hadnt played a Ret in 11 years. Its not terrible, but i still preferred the OG paly design. Prot is still good. In Cata classic, I plan on doing Druid tank, like i was in OG cata.
Prot and Holy were great in Cata (well great in my eyes). I played Ret on release of Cata and it was mediocre. The Last Word spec in PVP was awesome though and gave a new meaning to DPS-healing. Was able to make it to 2200 in 3x DPS 3v3 but just Ret Paladin healing lol. I think Holy really was fun in the last patch with the crazy AOE healing that they eventually nerfed. Overall, not sure if I will try Cata again; the zones were cool and raiding was fun, but outside of that it was just meh.
@@shnibby12 I think many have their own opinion on what happened to paladins in Cata. I think Prot was awesome and Holy gained some cool spells. Holy had a cool AOE spell called Holy Radiance that was OP in Dragon Soul; they eventually toned it down, but you would just spam that healing everyone. Ret gained some cool spells, but on launch it was a wet noodle and required "burst windows" in PVP to be effective. I think it got better over the xpac, but Paladins did feel different than before.

actually all of these changes wouldn't be so jarring - IF THE GAME ACTUALLY TUTORIALISED GAMEPLAY! you talking about these things makes me understand it and not that adverse to trying it out. When I quit wotlk and came back to the game in WoD I didn't look up resources for this and it pissed me off HOW different paladins were and I had no reference, like this, to build an understanding of how all that shit worked, combined with how not only complex and convoluted the tooltips are but with no information on what stats affect any skill within the base game - I can't make an educated decision in gearing etc. "but just look up BiS lists and guides" - ... you realise that's like if I started playing Elden ring but the game itself had no stat screen - I had to consult a manual to figure out what if any my stats affected my weapon damage or armor value or what cut off point for fat rolling there is.... it's just bad game design if the solution is either "don't think so hard about it" OR "study a course over a semester and then you will be able to make decisions that you can recognise affects the gameplay".
I have no idea why Blizzard felt the need to change the classes people loved so much every xpac until people just gave up and quit playing the game. And yes, it's a bit stupid that you have to relearn a class you master every xpac. The worst is the specs that have been deleted from the game like demonology warlocks, discipline priests and survival hunters.. your spec does not even exist anymore.
Considering the fact that people are being banned on Whitemane Cata server by trolls and upset no life PVP toxic community, classic Cata looks like something I am willing to try when its released.
Cata Ret is my favorite iteration of any spec.... but it's not for everyone. It feels kind of like Enhance does in Wrath, except Holy Power/Inquisition makes it feel a bit like a "spinning plates and thinking ahead" sort of spec like Shadow or Affliction. The rotation goes from a fairly easy "whack a mole" in Wrath to a rotation complex enough that most players just used an addon to tell them which button to push. Keep in mind, if you just blindly follow an addon like CLC Ret, you will not be able to get the full value that is possible. It's kind of close, but much of the difference comes in Inquisition usage. Your #1 priority is keeping Inquisition up, because your damage suffers the most if that drops. The addon also will not adjust based on the number of targets you are fighting, nor if the target is a demon/undead. Where you get huge value is out of using your amazing utility CDs, which also requires paying attention to everyone's health at the same time. It has a high skill ceiling and if you want a challenge I can't recommend it highly enough.
Paladin currently is the most boring class to play. The only thing more boring is Discpline Priests in Wrath. Bubble, bubble,bubble ,bubble, bubble x1500 per raid.
@@OTPulse I play a holy paladin and discipline priest and love it.. it's all a matter of taste, not because you find it boring that everybody does. I prefer the MOP version of disc priests, but the WOTLK version beas WOD and later versions in my book.
@Spotnick2 It's perfectly OK to prefer to play brain-dead classes like Disc Priest (it's my current main as I'm not allowed to use Holy because how toxic the community now is) but I don't have time to play multiple characters. As for Holy Paladin, that's probably the best/ harder heals to play, and for your play time, I completely understand liking the easy mode balance Dicp Priest brings after using H-Pal. But I just can't stand how mind numbingly boring. Paladin is to level in Wrath at this point in the content. Seriously Bubble x1500 is not entertaining you're making excuses for a shit speck playstyle. I've no doubt Disc gets better as it's impossible to be worse.
It sounds like ret will feel worst to play.... with CS and Divine Storm sharing a cd, and templars Verdict requiring holy management to use.... not a fan...
It's pretty similar how Aimed Shot and Multi Shot share CD even in wrath, just takes a bit of time to get used to it... Atm most classes just have prio list of skills which you use, and once higher prio comes off CD you use that one :P

Cata Ret isn't just my favorite version of Ret, but my favorite iteration of any spec. It isn't for everyone though, and holy power/inquisition makes it feel more like a spinning plate spec like Shadow or Affliction... which I personally love but I know most Paladins didn't sign up for that. I think it feels amazing to play, but at the end of the day it comes down to what YOU are looking for and what YOU find fun. As for CS and DS sharing a CD basically you use DS if there are four or more targets and CS otherwise.
14:42 I don't know this fight or anything, but it's like you can't heal people up at all because you're scared of going oom and has no holy power, so you just leave them at half HP. This actually looks horrible, it reminds me when I just dinged on my hpala and went into a HC+ and struggled healing because I went OOM every other pull.. I don't understand why the fuck anyone is hyped about this change. Getting raid geared and being able to pump out massive holy lights while managing your mana through abilities(or items like crystal) or being able to hit the boss between casts is fun, this on the other hand is just like healing something while being shit geared lol. I won't play classic Cata but god damn holy looks boring.

Popping wings in Cata and just going nuts on crusader strike, templars verdict and hammer of wrath was a blast.

Both Prot and Ret were fun to play in Cata. I never played Holy, but every Holy pally main spec player I knew loved it.

A set bonus allows you to gain holy power off judgment and it makes the whole thing sing!!!!

I saw a report recently that said Blizzard was not working on Cata Classic and currently doesn't have plans to. Not that they won't but it's not currently on their radar. Do you have different info? I really hope we get Cata Classic.. not that Cata was that amazing but so we can get one expansion closer to Pandaria. I took a break after Cata and only dabbled in retail since then.. would really love to get to experience MoP as it was.
Paladins are a class that's been at the core of the IP since warcraft 2 and they're kind of iconic since the most prolific character of the Warcraft universe was one but got corrupted.
I don't think of a character when thinking of warrior or hunter but I think of Uther, Arthas and Tyrion fordring when thinking paladin.
Add to that the hybrid utility the class brings such as if geaered can heal, dps and tank. the closest concept to FFXIV s job system where you could just change to what role is needed.
it really sucks that they are changing so much about Paladins as if they don't HAVE a class identity at all.
for example - I always imagined Mana to be a spiritual resource, so the warrior that uses their spiritual side or feelings to power their combat maneuvers is distinct from a savage Warrior or any other class. yet the new resources kind of disconnects those aspects. I don't like it in an aesthetical aspect of the class.

I stopped playing in vanilla after Wotlk and I main ret now in classic and damn ret seems so overwhelming. Feels like Blizzard just went total apeshit and threw in too much abilities and changes in one expansion. I get what they were trying to do to make the gameplay more intense and engaging. The learning curve is gonna be so long if you even ever will get the hang of it 100%

tbh, i hate the holypower system so much, i wont play a pala or cata anymore at this point. nver got the idea of that stupid change
As a ret player since original 3.3 wrath, i hated holy power and most changes that came with Cata... i really loved the raids tho... and it was my first time reaching 2k rating in arenas. 🤷🏽♂️

I loved my holy pally all the way from vanilla. I loved my pally in WotLK - it was fantastic. I loved playing a paladin. I left 3 months after Cataclysm came in and didn't come back till pre-panda. I have never played a paladin since. Blizzard killed my Paladin in Cata...
I stopped playing Ret on my pally in cata. Went prot. I didnt pick up Ret again till DF. I made a new char and leveled a Ret pally up from 1. Because i hadnt played a Ret in 11 years. Its not terrible, but i still preferred the OG paly design. Prot is still good.
In Cata classic, I plan on doing Druid tank, like i was in OG cata.
Prot and Holy were great in Cata (well great in my eyes). I played Ret on release of Cata and it was mediocre. The Last Word spec in PVP was awesome though and gave a new meaning to DPS-healing. Was able to make it to 2200 in 3x DPS 3v3 but just Ret Paladin healing lol. I think Holy really was fun in the last patch with the crazy AOE healing that they eventually nerfed. Overall, not sure if I will try Cata again; the zones were cool and raiding was fun, but outside of that it was just meh.

@@shnibby12 I think many have their own opinion on what happened to paladins in Cata. I think Prot was awesome and Holy gained some cool spells. Holy had a cool AOE spell called Holy Radiance that was OP in Dragon Soul; they eventually toned it down, but you would just spam that healing everyone. Ret gained some cool spells, but on launch it was a wet noodle and required "burst windows" in PVP to be effective. I think it got better over the xpac, but Paladins did feel different than before.
Cata Ret is my favorite iteration... in fact, it is my favorite version of any spec at any point in the game. I happen to like things like Shadow and Affliction though... the whole "spinning plates and thinking ahead" kind of style that holy power/inquisition did to Ret. I 100% understand if you feel like that is NOT the class you signed up to play... I felt the same way with Legion Shadow even though everyone else loved it. Just not for me. =)

actually all of these changes wouldn't be so jarring - IF THE GAME ACTUALLY TUTORIALISED GAMEPLAY!
you talking about these things makes me understand it and not that adverse to trying it out. When I quit wotlk and came back to the game in WoD I didn't look up resources for this and it pissed me off HOW different paladins were and I had no reference, like this, to build an understanding of how all that shit worked, combined with how not only complex and convoluted the tooltips are but with no information on what stats affect any skill within the base game - I can't make an educated decision in gearing etc.
"but just look up BiS lists and guides" - ... you realise that's like if I started playing Elden ring but the game itself had no stat screen - I had to consult a manual to figure out what if any my stats affected my weapon damage or armor value or what cut off point for fat rolling there is....
it's just bad game design if the solution is either "don't think so hard about it" OR "study a course over a semester and then you will be able to make decisions that you can recognise affects the gameplay".
I have no idea why Blizzard felt the need to change the classes people loved so much every xpac until people just gave up and quit playing the game. And yes, it's a bit stupid that you have to relearn a class you master every xpac. The worst is the specs that have been deleted from the game like demonology warlocks, discipline priests and survival hunters.. your spec does not even exist anymore.
Cata is the exp where paladins are really tested when it comes to finding a keybind home for every ability.

Considering the fact that people are being banned on Whitemane Cata server by trolls and upset no life PVP toxic community, classic Cata looks like something I am willing to try when its released.
They destroyed Paladin back in Cataclysm, especially the Holy spec.
I don't recommend Paladins especially if you want to play PVP as holy spec.

Cata Ret is my favorite iteration of any spec.... but it's not for everyone. It feels kind of like Enhance does in Wrath, except Holy Power/Inquisition makes it feel a bit like a "spinning plates and thinking ahead" sort of spec like Shadow or Affliction. The rotation goes from a fairly easy "whack a mole" in Wrath to a rotation complex enough that most players just used an addon to tell them which button to push.
Keep in mind, if you just blindly follow an addon like CLC Ret, you will not be able to get the full value that is possible. It's kind of close, but much of the difference comes in Inquisition usage. Your #1 priority is keeping Inquisition up, because your damage suffers the most if that drops. The addon also will not adjust based on the number of targets you are fighting, nor if the target is a demon/undead. Where you get huge value is out of using your amazing utility CDs, which also requires paying attention to everyone's health at the same time. It has a high skill ceiling and if you want a challenge I can't recommend it highly enough.

Paladin currently is the most boring class to play. The only thing more boring is Discpline Priests in Wrath. Bubble, bubble,bubble ,bubble, bubble x1500 per raid.
@@OTPulse I play a holy paladin and discipline priest and love it.. it's all a matter of taste, not because you find it boring that everybody does. I prefer the MOP version of disc priests, but the WOTLK version beas WOD and later versions in my book.

@Spotnick2 It's perfectly OK to prefer to play brain-dead classes like Disc Priest (it's my current main as I'm not allowed to use Holy because how toxic the community now is) but I don't have time to play multiple characters. As for Holy Paladin, that's probably the best/ harder heals to play, and for your play time, I completely understand liking the easy mode balance Dicp Priest brings after using H-Pal. But I just can't stand how mind numbingly boring. Paladin is to level in Wrath at this point in the content.
Seriously Bubble x1500 is not entertaining you're making excuses for a shit speck playstyle. I've no doubt Disc gets better as it's impossible to be worse.

It sounds like ret will feel worst to play.... with CS and Divine Storm sharing a cd, and templars Verdict requiring holy management to use.... not a fan...
It's pretty similar how Aimed Shot and Multi Shot share CD even in wrath, just takes a bit of time to get used to it... Atm most classes just have prio list of skills which you use, and once higher prio comes off CD you use that one :P

Cata Ret isn't just my favorite version of Ret, but my favorite iteration of any spec. I think it feels amazing to play, but at the end of the day it comes down to what YOU are looking for and what YOU find fun. As for CS and DS sharing a CD basically you use DS if there are four or more targets and CS otherwise.
14:42 I don't know this fight or anything, but it's like you can't heal people up at all because you're scared of going oom and has no holy power, so you just leave them at half HP. This actually looks horrible, it reminds me when I just dinged on my hpala and went into a HC+ and struggled healing because I went OOM every other pull.. I don't understand why the fuck anyone is hyped about this change.
Getting raid geared and being able to pump out massive holy lights while managing your mana through abilities(or items like crystal) or being able to hit the boss between casts is fun, this on the other hand is just like healing something while being shit geared lol. I won't play classic Cata but god damn holy looks boring.
