Character development is what Cobra Kai excels in when compared to other shows. I see so many comments of ppl wanting certain characters to never change, even though it literally goes against the underlying message behind this show. It's all about redemption and growth, but unfortunately a lot of ppl don't have the patience to understand that.
Miguel does have depth and the only one that questions everything instead of blindly following like everyone else. My issue with Miguel is that he took a backseat and most of the attention is always on Sam, Tory, Hawk, Robbie and now they added a new storyline of character with Kenny which propelled to the front. It’s like Miguel’s presence isn’t quite felt. I’m glad other characters are getting attention but Miguel is just being left out now.

Miguel portrays both Johnny and Daniel. After the school fight he became more level headed knowing that strike first and always fighting is not the way to go about things. Learning from Daniel he became more patient and level headed. But when push comes to shove he will be ruthless when he fights. He shows he's still the best fighter among the students despite his injury.

Miguel’s been through a lot since season one. There’s a lot coming up at him all at once, and it’s a very mixed stage in his life. His mental health clearly isn’t in top shape, and I personally see a lot of similarities in his behaviour and way of solving things, with the way I think and behave when I’m depressed. I’m aware it’s only a show, but he has the same heavy, serious look in his eyes. When I’m depressed my eyes feel like boulders, and it’s always the biggest ‘giveaway.’ That’s how I always felt watching him, and so I’ve interpreted it that way. I see it as good acting on his behalf. I also like how he’s diversifying his methods of learning and grasping new concepts. The way he’s interacting with Daniel LaRusso, and the way he’s connected with Johnny Lawrence in a father-son like way. As the seasons have progressed he’s grown kinder and more caring towards others. In the first season, he stood up, but he didn’t truly speak up. He’s learning to find his voice for the first time-not his Sensai’s voice, not his friends’ voices. *His voice.* That’s the same reason he’s gone on a journey to find his father, as impulsive and ‘wrong’ as that may be. It’s great, and I think there are going to be some really important turns as we head into season 5.

He's really the best student out of all of them, his main hurdle is no longer fighting each fight like _it_ alone is all that matters in that moment.(He's been stuck thinking/worrying about his future, which makes sense and it's part of what he's been taught; again, great student; he just need a balance of fighting in the moment without a hate/desperation to gain his desires or a fear of not having the right to fight anymore, he has absorb the teachings of his sensei's as perfectly as any other student, but he has also ironically absorbed both their flaws/weaknesses.(Daniel's and Johnny's). I think the writters are aware of this, and he's due for a comeback, his character hit a ceiling when he fell due to the rift that Johnny and Daniel created in him, when they both trully reach an understanding, it will be exemplified in Miguel. Hawk/Eli reached a level of balance in identity, Sam reached a level of balance in fighting styles, but Mighel might reach a true balance in ideologies and karate understanding. Atleast- that's what i hope/think will happen, it feels like there's too much build up/holding on Miguel's "next moment" by the writers(outside of his recovery, which was also a while ago). They know this series started with Johnny and Miguel, so it sounds right that they are really saving Miguel's next 'peak' for the final couple of episodes (part 2 will put him through a journey and part 3 we should see him come out changed and in his new prime.)
Season 4 Miguel has Cobra Kai skilla (by Kreese), Myagi Do (by LaRusso) and Eagle Fang (by Johnny). He's probably the only one who has learned all three styles and no wonder nobody managed to defeat him before (we all know Robby kicked him off the railing but It was after Miguel had shown mercy, dropping his guard down in the process. Before that, Miguel had Robby in the ground and could have finished him by brutally breaking his arm, so Miguel won). In season 4 with all the teachings together he was nerfed. We all saw how easily he destroyed Eli back in season 2, Imagine if he was focused in S4, the man would've destroyed Robby without breaking a sweat. We all know Robby took out the whole remaining Cobra Kais in an 8 v 1 but, apart from Tory (who managed to hit him), everyone was a Rookie there, none of this would've been possibile if Eli never switched sides. As for Miguel, i think that at the end of season 4 he could pull of that thing against all of Eagle Fangs, who are far stronger than the Kais. As for Hawk, he could do that to the Myagi Do, including Sam, and the man Is gonna be unstoppable once Chozen will be done with training him
