The release of this episode was well-timed. What a beautiful Memorial Day gift to us, your subscribers and channel viewers. Thank you. The cyclorama was a wonderful😂 climax of this long-awaited trip to Gettysburg and now on to Ohio. Safe travels, Sondra and David.👍🏾🙏🏾❤️
Super cool video., though I lost count of David’s puns! I visited Gettysburg years ago - found it haunting and emotional. You gave a beautiful presentation. Stunning photos, Sondra! Thanks so much .
This morning, my garmin wanted me to take a shortcut on a county road. I was dubious about it before I got there. As I was approaching, I figured if I turn on to that road, it becomes 1 way! The entire road was about 12' wide! And it had a sign at the intersection say No Trucks.😮
This was a fantastic travel experience Gettysburg was great thank you for taking on this wonderful journey. Loved every moment and the jokes bring a smile to our face. Safe Travels 🥰 🚙
I think it is so wonderful that you are in Gettysburg for this Memorial Day weekend‼️ Thanks for the history you are sharing with us too besides the beautiful scenery ‼️👍 THANK YOU‼️👍
I really enjoyed the video about Gettysburg. I am not sure of your travel route but a couple of suggestions. 1. Little BighornBattlefield near Crow Agency Montana and in Washington the town of Rosalyn Washington especially if you are a fan of the TV show "Northern Exposure ."
What lovely countryside and charming towns but this video filled me with sadness at the end to think of all the blood of men and horses that were soaked into the ground. Thank you for how respectfully you presented it.
Thank you for the respect at the cemetery. I enjoyed the video & appreciate the visit to Gettysburg. Love the nature pictures you take & enjoy that David gets such a kick out of tlhis own Dad jokes! Safe travels! 💙
I've never been (Bucket list item), but Gettysburg seems to have a heaviness and a sadness to it. War is such a sad and destructive thing and brother against brother makes it even more sad in my opinion. Great video!👏
Thanks, Scott. It's hard to describe but the setting is beautiful but the sentiment and feeling of the area does have a heaviness which weighs on you. It's quite a dichotomy.
Maybe the reason buc ees won't let you park there is the weight of your rig. But think about this for a second. All that stuff that's inside that store got there; not by osmosis and not by Santa Claus. That's right. A truck brought it. A semi with the same amount of axels that are on your rig. Those things max out at about 43k pounds if I'm correct. Wayyy more than your rig. Go figure.
It's not the weight but more for the room. Big Trucks with trailers take a lot of room and they don't want the hassle. Plus, they don't want a Truck stop, they want a travel center.
Sondra I think David had you drive on purpose to go under that low bridge and David you must stay up all night thinking up those on liners. Fun video, safe travels.
On 95 and being that close to me @ 58 E and Emporia exit! Weldon is not far from Roanoke Rapids. Oh, Emporia has a Yogi Bear campground but maybe the open field lots would fit you if ever needed. Like seeing Sondra drive but that was a close call on the 13'10" clearance! Enjoyed as usual.....since David was overflowing with wit I'll spare everyone this time lol. Safe travels continuing.
Afternoon guy's weather rubbish Birmingham England we are off on a trip in 6 days going to Wales we tackled the garden yesterday keep trucking and save u2 😂
Would greatly appreciate some numbers regarding cost to engage in the HDT lifestyle. Trucking husband -wife team about to retire. Already own a truck! Enjoying the banter between you guys. Mucho laffs! Keep it up. 👍
Sondra I had my money on you that you would make it under that bridge in NC ..thanks for taking me a long to Gettysburg sure bought back a lot of remembers looks just like it did when I lived in the area safe traveling
David, were you born and raised in Hawaii? Did you meet Sondra there? If so, did you marry and live in Hawaii? We enjoy your humor..... which is obvious you do too.
Hey, Dennis. Yes, I crack myself up... sometimes I'm the only one laughing! 😆 I was born in California but raised for most of my life in Hawaii. Sondra and I met at a job in North Carolina but we were married in Hawaii by a good friend of mine who's a minister. Kind of a twisted life, eh?!? Thanks 😄 for watching.
We live in PA and try to always get fuel in Ohio and West Virginia before we come back home. PA fuel tax is horrible. I can never understand why truckers choose to fuel in PA. We visit Gettysburg ever year and stay at Artillery Ridge.
Really have to ask, since you were very worried about that bridge clearance why didn't one of you get out, walk up the embankment and watch the clearance?
This video was so emotional for me. Beautifully done, very respectful. Thanks for the levity throughout! We have “decided” that we’ll be using a truck camper when we go through that part of the country! Thanks as always for the beautiful episode this week.
Sondra had a great birthday, thank you for thinking of her. It's pretty amazing and a very colorful history. It's amazing to think that it wasn't that long ago either.
Looking at the battle site was amazing you can sense the history up to 51,000 men from both armies died on the battlefield .a place that I thought I'd never see thank you
It is very moving to stand on that ground. In mid November in the cemetery they have a beautiful illumination service, boy scouts put candles on all the graves and the troops march in, very moving. A friend of mine built one of the cannons and carriage and donated to the museum, its in the cyclorama. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state.
Wow. Thats something ill never see..thank you so much. So much to take in there. Not just beauty. Can u fathom living then and going through that.. being a family member. Hearing the speech. Well done capturing it for us!
We lived in Alexandria, VA for almost 40 years a d spent a lot of time in Gettysburg and Amish country. We visited the original building the cyclorama was in. When we went on our honeymoon 54 years ago we visited Gettysburg. The restaurant called the Avenue diner is still there. Really enjoyed your walk down memory lane Thank great memories. We now live in Western New York state and have retired and live back with family Bernie and Debbie Wright
I have been there myself several decades ago when I was stationed in Alexandria, VA. It is amazing how the Dept of Interior has kept up the place after all these years.
Okay Sondra is it just me but can you possibly do a video showing your scrapbook journals please please Also please let me know if you will ever be coming through Kentucky my husband and I would love to host you guys
In 2019 we visited Gettysburg and throughly enjoyed it. We are from Ontario 🇨🇦 and I planned this trip. My husband was completely surprised because I don’t like army movies and I am not much of a history lover but Gettysburg is one of my favourite places we have visited. I loved the little museums that depicted the civilian life and how the women helped the soldiers. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
@@bigtruckbigtravels 🤣🤣🤣 Debi and I have been watching you all for a long time... but just rarely chime in. But we love your videos, comments, puns and ALL!!!! Keep them coming!!!! We love following you. Maybe we'll see you two on the road sometime. We are on the road from time to time in an HDT 45' RV conversion pulling a 30' enclosed race car trailer, heading all over the country to NHRA Drag races. We are retired but still out racing.... Continued safe travels and keep the puns coming!!! 🤣🤣🤣
This reminds me of Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee where we visited. The numbers of men that were killed in a day is staggering. Someday we will get to Gettysburg, too. I have to say, Sondra, that you've got me started on buying stickers. I bought my first one today for my travel journal. :)
Oh... the sticker path is a long and winding road with no end... the Civil War battle sites are unbelievable with what happened at each. Hard to fathom.
David, I think you were way over your quota of bad jokes … or I mean “dad” jokes. But I know you just can’t help yourself. Sondra even got in the action. You are rubbing off on her! David it looked like you were having a hot flash on that tight turn but in true David fashion, you pulled it off. Great handling of the rig. Always amazes me but I don’t know why because you are good. Thanks for the tour of Gettysburg. I’m not much of a history person but that was just enough and now I don’t have to go there. Enjoyed the vlog. I look forward to next week’s adventure. Take care.
One fact I found interesting about Gettysburg was it was the first battle when everyone had a rifled weapon. When you stand on top of big round top and look down at the contested area it's not hard to understand why casualties were high as everyone was well within range of the weapons carried. Somewhere we saw a board from a fence at Pickett's charge and from the looks of it they were charging into a literal wall of lead. Very interesting battle ground.
It's amazing how close the battle was to both sides. We were surprised by the proximity of everything. And, yes, easy to understand the high casualty rate. Wow! A very solemn event in a beautiful area.
I believe that Federal law requires the sign to read 4" lower than the actual clearance, and most 13'6 trucks are actually 13'4, so a 13'6 truck going under a 13'6 underpass actually has about 6" of clearance. This is so that the air, thanks to the Bernoulli principle, doesn't lift the top of the rig into the bottom of the bridge. Except in New Jersey, where 13'6 is 13'6, so be careful of fresh snow.
We love Gettysburg farm TT been there several times, only with a 30’ travel trailer. Most recently July 23? 2024 Can’t imagine going in and out with your rig. Great campground great staff.
We really enjoy watching your videos. I wanted to tell Sondra that the next time you're in Mexico looking for stickers, ask for " calcomanias". I hope this helps.
We loved our trips to Gettysburg. A couple of those trips were over July 1st,2nd and 3rd. Re-enactments were being all over Gettysburg. One trip was over a Memorial Day Weekend. We watched as Boy Scouts placed flags on the graves at the National Cemetery. Just a little correction; there was fighting within the center of the town as well. Jenny Wade was killed by a bullet that passed through the door to her home and struck her while she was in the kitchen. Enjoy your videos so much. My kids loved the Pedro signs and the rest stop at South Of The Border.
Loved the Smart car convoy! Enjoy your videos so much. My Dad was a truck driver and watching your videos brings back so many memories of going with him when I was a kid. I loved the truck stops. Thanks for sharing!
Now this was a truly great video. It was so cool seeing Gettysburg again. I haven't been there in about 30 years. When you came up 95 did you take the beltway around DC then 270 out through Rockville? If so how was the traffic. When you were coming up 95 before getting to DC if you remember passing by Quantico Marine Base that is the area we lived in before retiring to Florida. How much was the RV park in Pennsylvania? Was it affordable?
Thank you. Yes, that's the route we took. It was cool seeing Quantico and signs for the Pentagon. Gettysburg campground was a Thousand trails so it was part of our membership, no fees. Lol 😆 Very affordable!
GOOD MORNING GUYS ITS FRIDAY BEAUTIFUL RIDE TO DAY ! YOU GUYS ARE SO FUN OH I DID NOT KNOW SONDRA DROVE TOO DANG THATS AWESOME !! BE BLESSED BE SAFE GUYS !! I LOVE YOU GUYS !! ❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Welcome to Pennsylvania! We live in Mechanicsburg, PA about 45 minutes from Gettysburg. I learned some history on York from you today. I have friends that are in the reenactment every year at Gettysburg. Sondra great video capture of the owl! Sondra I think you should buy handheld illuminating beacons, you know like they use at the airport to guide the airplanes in after they land. You can use them to guide David when he is backing into your RV spot. Just a thought. 😊 I love your videos!
David thinks that he is so funny which is funny in itself. Watching David laugh at himself is hysterical.
I know, Mary. I tickle myself with these bad puns. Thanks for putting up with me.

That is a spectacular Harvest Hosts. Loved it when we stayed there.
It's very scenic and peaceful, Linda. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video, very good content! The "dad jokes" were relentless, i lost count!😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it...I couldn't keep up either! Lol 😆
This was fun. As long as you keep sharing I'm along for the ride. Have been for over a year and I'm loving it.
Great to hear! Thanks and buckle up, we've got more places to visit.
That's so nice of you to let your wife drive it fits her well after 48yrs of trucking my wife was my team driver
She enjoys it, Grant. Loves to drive on travel days.
Super cool video., though I lost count of David’s puns! I visited Gettysburg years ago - found it haunting and emotional. You gave a beautiful presentation. Stunning photos, Sondra! Thanks so much .

Thanks for the visit to Gettysburg, interesting!
Our pleasure! We enjoyed it a lot. We are excited to have you along on the journey. 😊
I rode my motorcycle up there from Mississippi just to do the tour. It made me sad then just like it made me sad now. Great video!!
Thank you. It was a weird feeling at the end of the day... but it was very historic how it all turned out.
We missed you by a week. And yes the roads are very tight for a large rig.
Ahhh...one week! That would be fun to say hi on the road.
This morning, my garmin wanted me to take a shortcut on a county road. I was dubious about it before I got there. As I was approaching, I figured if I turn on to that road, it becomes 1 way! The entire road was about 12' wide! And it had a sign at the intersection say No Trucks.😮
You were smart NOT to follow your GPS blindly. They sometimes make no sense at all!

Yes, Drive around to 16 different spots and listened on the app.

What is the name of the gps app you use to show low clearances? We have a class A and plan to do some traveling.
We have a Rand McNally trucker GPS which has those loaded. We also refer to a Rand McNally paper road atlas.
I pass this week ly
Is that good? Thanks for the comment.
Do you guys put your slides in and out every day?
Everyday when we travel. We leave them out when stationary.
OK about what do you average on MIles per gallon?
We have averaged over 5 years 6.8 mpg. Our trailer is 43K lbs so it's a load.
I said it wrong cyloroma

We really enjoy watching your videos. I wanted to tell Sondra that the next time you're in Mexico looking for stickers, ask for " calcomanias". I hope this helps.
Yes, we found out from a viewer on our last trip. We asked on this one and they had a lot! Thanks
That's cool and the perfect time to visit for all the activities. Thanks for the comments.
Loved the Smart car convoy! Enjoy your videos so much. My Dad was a truck driver and watching your videos brings back so many memories of going with him when I was a kid. I loved the truck stops. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it brought back some great memories!
Just started watching you guys. The Dad jokes are priceless. You both are living my dream that didn't happen due to life's downfalls.
Sorry, Donna but glad you found us. We're excited to have you along on the journey. 😊

Thank you. She enjoys driving the rig.
Surprised you didn't get tongue tied talking about that shoe...you really stringed us along with them groaners....
I know... sorry! Couldn't help myself.
Great suggestion. We actually have a pair of those! Thanks
