    Hey Pete! I remember watching this game and thinking the same thing as most other people in regards to not opening his cap (which caused you to do this recap). While I agree with most the points you made in your recap and analysis, I think the majority of the original comments came from the fact that when you were playing this game it seemed you were oblivious to the fact that he wanted you to open his cap so that he could hit yellow. You’re heard multiple times on the recording commenting about how “he wants to trade with me” and “that’s dumb because this is fixed” “trading with you is dumb”. So that seems as if you’re misunderstanding your opponents skill and motive because you think that he is trying to trade with you because it’s progressive in some sort of reverse card block, which I do not think he was doing. Agree that not opening the cap is higher odds for you to win but I also don’t think that you knew what he was trying to do in the moment either, because you were coming to the wrong solution multiple times. 1:54:57

    Hey Pete! I was one of the people who pointed out Purple wanting you to open their cap -
    At least for me, it was irrelevant whether or not opening the cap was a good idea/made sense for your game, but more some surprise at you seemingly not noticing what purple was (possibly) communicating. You commented that if purple was asking you to trade with them in that territory, that made no sense. However, it absolutely did not come across to me as them wanting you to trade in that spot. Yellow was going up their butt and I truly think they just wanted to be able to beat them up a bit. Maybe they just didn't put more troops on the orient cap because its a shittier than the London cap, although as you said, they absolutely could have. We will never know purple's true intentions. You seem to have a different opinion on it, which is 100% valid since you're the one playing. I don't mean to backseat game, hence why I phrased my comment as what I thought purple wanted, not what you should have done.
    I of course only speak for myself, and after playing Risk for several months and watching your content for just as long, my understanding of player psychology and communication using alliances has been hugely shaped by your content. I'm not empathizing with purple, simply pointing out something I found unusual in your content, especially since I've watched every single one of your negotiation game videos. Your camera being off further gave me the impression that perhaps you were distracted and didn't pick up what purple meant because of that.
    I hope this helps clear up one viewpoint on this whole debacle is lol, I'm sure others can chime in and agree or disagree with *MY PERSONAL* assessment. I think it is healthy for us to have differing viewpoints and have discussions. It's how we learn and get better right? Let's not shame each other, I don't think disagreeing makes those individuals less skilled players :)
    Cheers!

      Yeah, what you’re saying is how I felt. I think this post analysis makes more sense and Pete’s game intuition is grandmaster vs my novice. He makes a super valid point now, but watching Pete during that match he didn’t communicate that, he was communicating the card trade, which is what I disagreed with.

  • @zhukant
    @zhukant 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    I feel the same as some others here. It’s clear that you had the correct strategy in mind already regarding not opening the cap and expecting purple to use the other cap. That makes sense.
    I think what triggered all the comments was that you appeared to be missing the request from purple, and they wanted you to mention it in the video. If you said “I see he’s asking me to open the cap but I’m obviously not going to” (the way you did in this video), I believe that the comment section would have looked completely different.
    But that is definitely really good insight about being wary of getting tricked into over-committing!

    100% agree with the recap decision.
    You open purple you risk betrayal, and he's not strong enough to help meaningfully if he wants to.
    If you break through the middle you risk upsetting purple with a misunderstanding while also making the yellow enemy AND give purple the opportunity to shuffle the board and come back.
    Anything except what you did throws away an optimal board state for you.

    Hello Pete, about your other game I found very amusing that people wanted you to open purples cap. In no way does that make sense for you and there was many others ways purple could have hit yellow if they wanted to. Even you pointed that out.
    Honestly I was more frustrated with you not working with white sooner on purple. But I also like teaming up with someone and have a comradery going. But at the end your trying to win and you got there.
    These settings are great cause you do have to use some sociology to win and positioning is key.
    As I've gotten older I've learned there's two different types of intelligence social and logical.
    Keep up the great work!

    • @systems.stories
      @systems.stories 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      That's honestly how I read it too. To Pete's point purple had an open cap effectively pointing at the same number of troops guarding and didn't take initiative or stack on it.
      I figured it was because he was too weak to plow through the stacks without them fortifying away to deal with the incursion through the middle.
      That said, while he could have tried that, or tried signaling to confirm the intent, I dunno if that would have been an advantage play.
      If that's not what purple wanted he makes an enemy. If it is, purple is broken already, 2 strongest people are at war, and purple can shuffle the board to his advantage.
      Even if purple keeps good on their word in that instance, yellow's already broken with purple too weak to deal meaningful additional damage.

    Hi Pete
    I'm not a Grandmaster at Risk but I agree with you regarding the review of last weeks game. Neverthless I can also sympathize with all the comments saying otherwise. I believe that in this situation you could've opened purples cap to speed up the prozess while taking the risk that you get teamed on. Again, it wouldn't be the safest or best play, but the way I judged purples character, it didn't seem likely for him to backstab you.
    Actually I think both ways to play this position are valid and the reason behind the comments lies mainly behind the fact that we as the viewers weren't able to see your thought process because you didn't comment on purples indication to open his cap.
    I love your videos, keep it going!!

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Speeding up makes sense if I trust purple. But then why didn't he put troops on the cap that was open instead?

      @@TheKillPeteStrategywatching this game, I think purple saw more troops blocking his SE cap.
      Purple stacking troops in his closed cap is not threatening, and allowed a heavy stack. When he stacked on his open cap, yellow stacked up heavy against an attack.
      I get and understand your analysis, because opening purple puts you at risk. I am one of your many viewers who have watched countless videos of yours.
      You have an uncanny talent to know when to attack in fog to take your advantage at the right time.
      You normally read your opponents phycology extremely well, but in this case I still think you missed that purple wanted to sue yellow.
      You did the very thing you trash others for. Being asked to attack players, but not backing up or showing actions as such. Throughout this game you held off a couple turns too late to show your alliance means something. So white backstabbed you out of frustration for what white thought was a false alliance.
      Again, purple seemed to strategically stack his closed cap because yellow didn't stack against a closed stack growing. When he stacked his open, yellow countered. When he stacked his closed, nobody reacted. I truly think that purple wanted to hit yellow from both sides in a pincer attack.
      That all said, even though I think you read purples request incorrectly from what their actions previously made me infer their intentions to sue yellow. I absolutely understand that you now articulated the risk of a backstab is higher if you open that closed cap. During the game you only commented about thinking he wanted to trade, but there were other open trade cards in that area so I do not think that was his request. I absolutely understand and agree with your recap that it is a higher risk of a backstab and rebalance of the board of that cap is open. I think either play would have led to your inevitable victory.

    • @kamyouutv2906
      @kamyouutv2906 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheKillPeteStrategy I can't give you a good reason why he didn't because it would've been the right play. My guess is that he thought of his London-Cap as his main cap and didn't want to lose that position while stacking elsewhere. This is a totally unfounded speculation tho.

      Incorrect though. If Purple was working with Pete, he's way in third, he just hits yellow and communicates he'd like a better placement thru action. Its so simple. GMs salvage a second place doing this ALL THE TIME. You cant win every single game you play, so take 2nd every time you dont win. Its a great way to rank. And guess what, sometimes that even gives you the WIN.
      Thats the point of this video that you're still missing: Purple was in position to either take 2nd or fight Pete hard and hope yellow helped. He did neither. Purple being passive didnt increase his chances of winning. All he did was telegraph his true intentions (which a GM sees right thru) which was dragging it out in the false hope that he could win via yellow being stupid. He was outmatched lol. Pete saw thru his bs, and allowed purple to sink his placing of his own accord.

    For the risk of being banned I'm going to ask this anyway. Pete, you would have played that cap steal on turn 2 or whatever yourself had it been available to you. You held it against him (red) the entire game and continually called him names. You make players lose intentionally all the time by having advantage and stopping them. Why do you think Red needed to give your cap back when you would (almost) never do that? My pet peeve is not doing something you yourself would do. (using a basic car turn signal, for example). What is the difference in your perspective? You also allied someone (magenta?) and immediately asked them to attack red. But when you get those you get super annoyed?

    • @TheKillPeteStrategy
      @TheKillPeteStrategy  2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Questions are fine.
      I'd be curious to see an example of me rolling a 6 cap on the second turn.
      I'm not saying I've never done it but you can prove me wrong. I absolutely would not have played that cap steal turn 2. It's a TERRIBLE play and I could go into tremendous detail about why it's a terrible play but I don't think I need to. I think it's obvious.
      And perhaps that's the disconnect I was referring to about re empathy. I completely understand why some people watching find it easier to empathize with the psychology of the noob players. I called red names because he made a terrible play, that fucked me, and to my complete lack of surprise he showed himself to be a total noob at got lowest. So feel free to ask more questions if you'd like to understand the difference between my play and reds play.

    Dude the comments all saying you should've opened purple is hilarious. If purple WAS working with you against yellow he just had 30 some troops to break yellow, but instead puts them all on a closed cap and asks you to open him. THATS NOT A FRIENDLY PLAY. It's a cheap trick that doesn't work at the higher level. If he wanted to communicate alliance he just hits yellow and takes his deserved 2nd. He chose to be a passive enemy.
    Lotta low level players out there that just arent seeing the game GMs are lol. Its crazy how obvious it is that when you see enough of these puzzles you just know the biggest communication of being an ally or not is how you USE your troops, not DISUSE them. If youre in a 3 player and someone is saying theyll attack the other player and doesnt, they are choosing to hurt you instead. Passivity is a choice that gets punished at the highest level. Lower level players don't see that simple nuance and it's why I see anyone ranked Intermediate to Master as a passive newb. They win games against other newbs that are impatient. It doesnt work against actually strong players, you just get eaten for having a limpdick style.
    Its great you brought it up, bc people missing that is literally what keeps so many players from offering a decent challenge. It certainly drags games out but it doesn't change the outcome 9/10 times.

      The problem is you're assuming purple is thinking and acting like a GM. This game played out in a way that highlighted this wasn't the case. Purple gets fixated on a target and fights that target. For some reason that target at the end was yellow and not Pete. Purple chose Pete as his ride or die, not knowing Pete was going to rise or die with white and kill purple.
      What purple saw was a mostly passive Pete acted quickly when white backstabbed Pete and became easy prey. Purple in my opinion was asking his ride or die Pete to open his capital up, so purple could take a big run at yellow.
      Yes Pete is right that opening that cap is risky, but I didn't think that player would have backstabbed Pete. Purple was skilled enough to realize stacking open cap means yellow defensively stacked against. Which was demonstrated a turn or so later as he had to stack the open, but before he grew enough yellow stacked against. So he returned to stacking closed as there were no major defensive stacks against it to yellows capital. That mindset might not be GM, but neither was purple.
