Mandy, thank you so much for this series! Every time I feel overwhelmed I come back to your video series and watch to get my focus back! This series has been so helpful in knowing where to start and what to do next. It helps me so much to build habits and stay consistent. Can’t thank you enough for this 💜💜
Honestly, what makes research so difficult for me is that most of the stuff that appears to be trending on Etsy is really ugly LOL. I have analyzed a lot of listings with things like Everbee and other tools, and the things that are actually really well-designed and cute often aren't selling. So then it's a game of me trying to get into someone who (I think) has bad taste, and for the life of me I can't seem to do it. Maybe I'll notice something that's trending and I'll try to improve upon it, add actual professional design to it (I'm a designer by trade), but so far it hasn't sold as well as the stuff that it looks like a total rookie thoughtlessly plastered on a tshirt. I have faith this next year will be different though, I haven't given up yet!
I hear you. I hate everything that's popular right now. I loved the plaids and rainbows and stripes and preppy look like in Clueless. Now everything is grungy and faded and looks like its from the donation bin at Salvation Army.
@@sweetbeep Nope. I'm still not at my financial goal but I did make enough money to pay the bills just via my Etsy income these last couple months, which is kind of wild (for me).
😊 What I learn is that it’s not about what we like or what we find cute and pretty, it’s what about what the market wants. We are not the ones buying our products and designs, so we have to remove ourselves from the equation. We have design based on the data we gathered, not by our opinion. Kinda hard though if you’re a professional graphic designer.
thank you so much! I have a full time career, run a nonprofit, full time husband. started building an Etsy shop. love how you explain everything. I found you from your interview with Cassiy. keep up the great work
Mandy - you have packed this video with GOLD! Thank you for taking time to do this. I've watched it all the way through and have rewatched different parts. Can't thank you enough! I wish you had a week long in-person school/retreat/university or something. I'd totally come!
Oh man! How fun would that be?!! I’m so glad that it was helpful for you! I DO have something new coming soon that will include new benefits and live group calls with me (shh don’t tell anyone I told you 😝). Hint: not a course, I stand by sharing my trainings for free here on YT 🤓
Girl, you got me AGAIN! I watched your whole masterclass a few weeks ago, ALL GOLD, and now this?! You're just the best, there is no other POD creator out there like you! Thank you so much!
First off, since first creating my TH-cam account many years ago, I pay next to no attention to the comments when watching a video, regardless of the contents. I can count on one hand the number of times I've commented on a video. However, I am currently on my own POD adventure and I had all but lost hope. Trying to figure out what I may be doing wrong I came to TH-cam looking for the right advice from someone who not only knows what they are talking about but most importantly from someone who is actively somewhere on this same adventure AND is making helpful videos to HELP the people they're intended for because you WANT to help and genuinely care. I feel you're not doing what you're doing just as means to profit from it. I stumbled upon you today, and because of you, I have regained hope, and I am inspired, and feel I have found the advice, and the knowledge plus exactly how to make it work for me and I apologize if I am rambling but I am just so very grateful and I felt compelled to tell you so. Thank you very, very much.
I so appreciate you and that you took the time to write this! It’s kindness in the comments like this and knowing that I’m helping people along the way that keep me going 💜💜
Mandy thank you so much for your videos. This was well paced, comprehensive and explained well. I appreciate that you take the time to explain things properly and give great examples, showing each part, rather than rushing or skipping over things, or having too many distracting animations and sound effects. This was great and I'm looking forward to your designing block tutorial. Thanks again ❤
Thank you Mandy for breaking all that down. I have only seen bits and pieces of this information but not pulled together like you have done. I wish so much I could ask you about what I want to do because it is different and not sure if it will work. Thank you again, I am a new subscriber and look forward to learning more.
I love this ! I learnt so much. Thank u. I am a very visual person so rather than just looking at stats on a research tool, this kind of visual research method works better for me. I got so many ideas just looking at u scroll through stuff
I hate seeing an uncle shirt or a teacher shirt that is listed at $7 only because it's sold in a toddler shirt. I'm thrilled to hear you don't exercise this practice. I personally don't do a loss leader either. I only list my smallest white shirts lower so I only make a couple bucks
I agree, as a consumer when I see this surprisingly low price and then i see its $25 more just for a female small I will leave the listing and go buy from someone else who's more upfront with their prices. It always annoyed me because I feel like its shady.
Mandy, I am grateful for the guidance you have provided through these stepping stones, which will allow us to move forward with greater confidence and fewer obstacles. #grateful #guidance #steppingstones #confidence #obstacles
Hi Mandy, thank you for taking your time to teach us all. Your videoes helped me to know better regarding POD. Thnak you for your kindness! ♥ I wish you're my mentor!
Time blocks! I love it! Cant wait for the rest of the series. Do you simply take mental notes while researching, or do you make notes about keywords, etc?
For designs/aesthetics those are more mental notes, for keywords I’ll usually jot down a note if there’s some in particular I want to make sure I use (or if I’m in Erank I’ll just save them to my keyword lists based on a niche) 😊
Thank you so much!!! This is very valuable tools for researching our niches! I really enjoyed doing the research and following along in your video. You are awesome!!
I wish I could like this more than once! So helpful, especially since I had planned on just making designs for things I thought would be popular and easy to sell...boy was I wrong. I did some research while watching this video (for the second time) and it's been such a huge help! Thank you for this and I can't wait to watch the rest of your videos.
Hey Mandy... thank you so much for showing us what works, and doesn't. You show us how efficiently we can become, and get things done faster. I have been on Etsy for 2 years, with very few sales, often losing money when I pay my monthly fees. You have inspired me to keep going. I'm wondering how you set up your personalize names etc. on your listing and how that part works. Thank you again for making it much clearer, and devoting time to this. Keith
I totally agree I wasted lots of time not focused enough on research. As I got more focused my store started to be more successful. But paid $1K for a POD-specific training that I found in many ways hazy for lack of a better word. In many ways I regret it. It was a huge investment that my hubby made into my business (as I'm a SAHM). I thought it would give me really specific information and I was so disappointed at the lack of specificity. The best information I had already learned through a POD Skillshare course that I got through my $15 monthly subscription. She never genuinely covered designing either. She kicked that over to a monthly subscription course that started at $67/month. After charging $1K for a POD course! Super frustrated. And explaining that to my husband wasn't a fun conversation. In that training she covers trendspotting but I never knew how she picked the online stores she mentioned. They just seemed random to to me as a newbie then. There wasn't a list. She just threw out some names. And I'm thinking some people rave about Shein, others Banana Republic. How are you determining which is more valuable? I still don't use this method much but I'd love to and to ask you how you determined what stores you use for trendspotting? Thanks for your channel and your various series covering Etsy POD. As a new sub I look forward to watching them.
Oh man, sorry to hear you had that frustrating experience 😰 When it comes to trends sometimes it depends on your targeted customer, particularly in this economy. You have to charge enough to cover your costs and still profit, so you need customers that have some disposable income or at least appeal to them enough with your design to make them willing to spend their money on it. Then you need to think about where they shop, and part of knowing those places just comes from experience, research, and built up knowledge. I’ve also taken note of a lot of the stores connected to trending pins on Pinterest for related searches. Clothing for people staying on top of aesthetic trends is generally going to be the big names like Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, etc. Same goes for the outdoorsy themes that I mentioned. Stores like Patagonia and REI are a vibe for sure, and they have a specific demographic that shops there. There’s obviously not a store for every niche, but they’re great places to go for at least understanding popular aesthetics and then being able to apply them to your niche. That doesn’t mean your design can’t or won’t appeal to other customers, but the goal is to design for the ideal customer who is ready and willing to buy by combining data from Etsy traffic with the research on designs/trends. Hope that helps - thank you for being here! 💜
Thank you Mandy. Awesome video. It really opened my eyes a little bit more and gave me lots of motivation.I took notes and will keep learning from these series because, frankly, my time management is taking me no where but to insanity land. 😺
I'm just finding your content and it is sooo helpful, thank you! Forgive me if you have answered this elsewhere (I'll be watching more of your videos), but if I don't come across it, I was wondering how many subscription services you utilize, and which ones? Getting started, I don't have the income to merit the Printify Premium, and it seems like the other resources I hear about (Everbee & the like) are all fee-based as well. How do you and when do you justify the expense if you aren't making any money yet? Thanks so much!
I’d like to know the same thing. E-Rank is like what $30/month unlimited searches. Everbee is about the same pricing. But these seem pretty steep in pricing especially when you factor Canva Kittl Midjourney (if you use it) Printify Premium is a must for lower production costs Creative Fabrica for fonts and graphics to pull from Mockups Etc. My biggest question is erank and Everbee are they worth it and how much does she pay for her operating workflow.
I love your video Mandy! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise, and experience. I look forward to your videos every week and it helps me to stay motivated with my Etsy store! I truly appreciate all of your helpful tips and advice.
Hello, Mandy. I have been following your time blocking series video content. First of all, thank you very much for sharing such useful and valuable information. You are amazing! Here, I have carefully watched this video several times and have a question. I saw that you matched the key words of TILES for each different design. I understand that this approach is more specific for targeting niche customer groups, but at the same time, I also feel that after doing so many different variable titles and list designs in bulk, how about doing AB test listings? I think if different designs are combined with different titles, there will be a bit of confusion, which makes it difficult for me. Can Mandy share this view and how to operate it in the next video? THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!🥳
Hi Mandy. Awesome, informative, and motivating content. Timeboxing is a great way to get anything done, because you can 1. set the constraints (Ex: research 3 concepts to start designing for) 2. Set the timebox (ex: 30 minutes or 1.5 hours) 3. Be firm about sticking to the constraints and timebox. One thing I thought might help is for folks to use the Pomodoro method of timeboxing. It's super helpful if you: procrastinate, get distracted, progress by using a gamification of your tasks among other things. Very simply, you select a task and constraints, (research a product/market/demand) set a timer for 25 minutes, then after 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break, mark off one pomodoro (1 unit of work) , then start over until you are done. There's tons of pomodoro apps for all devices or you can just use your phone/watch timer. Using this technique 10x'ed all of my work projects, from my day job to my POD shop online. Anyway, hope this helps, thank you for the videos! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique
Hey Mandy! Thank you for the video. At the beginning of the video you said you had a pod and a homemade item on Etsy. So do you have 2 different stores? I had a Shopify store but honestly I’m older & I hate social media so I want to move over to Etsy and give it a try. I have 3 different things going on…. 1) human shits about cats along with collars and jewelry. 2)I also sell little cats and dogs with cards and poems. 3)I also have an idea for some inspirational pod clothing. Each one has its own domaine & logo. So would I create 3 different etsy stores? I will load items one niche at a time but I’m curious if your homemade and pod are 1 store and or what you would advise me to do. Thanks.
Amazing content.. big fan of your content.. Can you please do a video on shipping in a simplified way ? how to configure if in ETSY or in Printify ? how does shipping profile impacts the search algorithm in Etsy ?
I really love your videos Mandy - and appreciate your unique presentation of providing realistic facts without spin and click bait... but as I watched this video - I realized you are probably the reason I am suddenly seeing an overload of new listings suddenly competing in my drilled down dog sub niche - uggghhh - what was once a sweet spot - is now getting overloaded due to being exposed in these videos... sigh - c'est la vie - nothing can stay specal and hidden forever... on to the next...
Oh no! 🫣 Sorry for the niche overload, but thank you for the kind words! I definitely enjoy focusing on teaching and not how many flashes or weird noises I can add 🤓💜
Hi Mandy, what are your thoughts on Watermarks? Is it good to add them to the listing photos, or in your experience, does it not make a difference to deter copying?
I leave them off - it can negatively effect where your listing is shown since Google doesn’t like watermarks. There are still ways of getting around it for people who are determined to steal a design, so it’s not worth the extra effort in my opinion 🫠
How many designs do you need each holiday/niche. I have just started about 2 months ago and I am overwhelmed trying to do as many as possible. I work full time as a banker and I have really stressed about this since my time is limited.
Dear Mandy! Do you perhaps already have a video explaining how to offer personalized clothes? I'd love to offer something customizable but I can't find info what settings I need to make on printify for that Grateful for you sharing your knowledge! xx L
Any homework mentioned is referring to the homework that I include in my free course. It’s in the playlist section and is called Mastering Etsy Print on Demand (the homework is linked there in corresponding videos) 😊
I noticed that you having a dog-niche store helped you out when determining what general niche to google first. But what if you run a general store and don't have a general niche in mind. How do you come up with a niche to google then? Do you have a formula for that that doesn't involve choosing from a list of occupations or hobbies?
I will watch this again. Thank you. Do you have any workshops or private help? I’m 8 months in and have done minimal research (I do a simple version that isn’t working). I feel like I’ve wasted so much time. The research part is very intimidating to me. I really appreciate your videos.
Hey Karen! I recently asked Mandy this same question, and she might have something coming up in the future, but nothing at the moment. Just thought I would answer incase Mandy misses this.
Hi Mandy! First if all, huge thank you for your hard work and tons of useful info! You are the best! Secondly, I have watched some of your series and, again, I am in awe! I haven’t put anything to practice yet, as I am the minority who enjoys research, but I will definitely go back and do all my homework 📄 😂 Keep up being so awesome and I will be watching out for the new videos 🎉
thank you for this! Ive been struggling to stay focused, as I have 2 jobs in addition to trying to get my etsy shop going. Only 2 months in, and almost no sales. Ive fallen into the trap of designing for what I like vs designing what sells (Im in the vacation/outdoor niche, with a few other subniches sprinkled in as im fishing for something that will gain traction). I know I need to pivot, but its hard to move to something I dont have an interest in. I feel like it is a validated niche, maybe its my designs or my SEO, but having a process like this might be the thing I need to get better.
Thank you for a great video (I'm also following your Mastering POD course as well), and you're quite right, I've missed the research parr for my store (one or two niche products across sub-niches) but I can apply what I've learned in this video retrospectively 👍 Love your batching idea, and Canva's ability to keep the image placement location and opacity is excellent. One quick question about lifestyle mockups: what if they detract from the detail on the mug? ok, fine, my products are mugs 🤣 Thank you again, Mike
Try testing out different mockups! Duplicate the listing in Etsy, swap out the mockup in the main listing picture, and see which one performs better. Sometimes the right mockup can make all the difference in conversion! Thanks for being here 🤓
Do i need a different shop for every niche? Or can i have a separate “section” for each niche? I’ve had my shop open for a long time and haven’t wanted to need multiple shops. Would love your opinion.
No need for a separate shop, you can definitely use your sections. My primary shop is considered “general” meaning I have several (specific) niches all under one shop 😊
i dont understand, according to printify and others like them say that you have to pay them, i thought when the customer comes to your shop on etsy, they pay for it? so is it i would pay for it also?
You are essentially outsourcing fulfillment and are the middle person. So an Etsy order comes in and the customer pays you. Then you have to pay for the cost/shipping of the item in order for Printify to send the order to your customer. Your goal is to set up your pricing so that you have a profit at the end of it 😊
Hello Mandy thank u for the great content I'm watching all of your videos. Is there a limit to the number of subniches you can combine together for a listing? Such as: Moms who like Halloween and Bats for example. That would be 3 niches. Could you potentially layer more and still be effective?
I am literally learning s0 much. Sitting with my coffee and notebook. I have a quick question I paused video to type this so if you're reading this knowing you said it already my apologies and ignore. I am time stamp 22:42 that site looks like Etsy yet blue outlined with a Bee did I miss a step? You said you go back to Etsy but that one looks slightly different.
That is what it looks like with the EverBee Chrome extension installed (I can click into the side bar while I’m on Etsy to look at product and search analytics) 😊
Sorry I missed how you made a keyword list ( dog mom) that you were blue to add keywords to? I can’t seem to figure that out. Did you have a time stamp for that or another video I should watch?
I made the dog mom version in a previous niche video, but when you do a keyword search in eRank there’s just a little blue box in the bottom left that you can click into to make one or go to Tools > Keyword Lists, and then as I search I just click the star next to keywords to add them to the active list 😊
Mandy, thank you so much for this series! Every time I feel overwhelmed I come back to your video series and watch to get my focus back! I love your video Mandy! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise, and experience. I look forward to your videos every week and it helps me to stay motivated with my Etsy store! I truly appreciate all of your helpful tips and advice.
I’m so glad they’ve been helpful for you! Thank you for being here 💜
Hello, Mandy.
You have inspired me, thank u....it's the details for me! Ur awesome
Another valuable help!! Thanks Mandy!!❤
Pure GOLD, Mandy! Thank you!
🙌🏼🙌🏼💜
Thanks.
This is so helpful, thank you Mandy.
Love how calm you speak new sub!!😊
As always, great content! Can't wait for the rest of the series!
I really love doing POD wrapping paper but find it challenging to do mockups. Do you have any ideas on how to make them for wrapping paper?
Amazing content.. big fan of your content.. Can you please do a video on shipping in a simplified way ? how to configure if in ETSY or in Printify ? how does shipping profile impacts the search algorithm in Etsy ?
What a gem! So generous ❤
great Mandy! Im watching this now .. :)
Thank you so much. This was such a great video. ❤ I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
So glad you liked it!
Burning the midnight oil this week to finish up the next one on Design, can’t wait for it to hit the channel soon! 💜
I love this! Great Video! Can't wait to see more!
Your content is so helpful. Thank you!!
Thank you thank you thank you!
Great video! would you kindly do a video on how one can go about building and growing social media target audience for a specific niche?
So helpful, thank you! 🎉
Dear Mandy! Do you perhaps already have a video explaining how to offer personalized clothes? I'd love to offer something customizable but I can't find info what settings I need to make on printify for that
Grateful for you sharing your knowledge! xx L
Sure do! Here’s the step-by-step from the course playlist: th-cam.com/video/42wvSPfIJRc/w-d-xo.html
Amazing video! You are such a great instructor.
💜💜💜
I NEED my Etsy shop to grow fast!!!
Hi - Thanks so much for a super informative video !! I just wondered how we download the homework sheet ? I couldn't find a link to it?
Any homework mentioned is referring to the homework that I include in my free course. It’s in the playlist section and is called Mastering Etsy Print on Demand (the homework is linked there in corresponding videos) 😊
Thank you so much for sharing all these information! You are awesome. I enjoy and learn a lot with your videos.
I’m so glad their helpful for you! 💜
Hi Mandy, do you have thoughts on whether to go with digital products or POD? I have been watching Etsy videos for over month and haven't decided.
Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge with us. This info is invaluable!!!🎉🎉🎉
Lots of amazing value! Thank you, Mandy!
I noticed that you having a dog-niche store helped you out when determining what general niche to google first. But what if you run a general store and don't have a general niche in mind. How do you come up with a niche to google then? Do you have a formula for that that doesn't involve choosing from a list of occupations or hobbies?
Nvm, I think I figured it out from watching one of your other videos!
Very useful info, as always!!
Thank you so much Mandy this is amazing info im so enjoying your videos
NEW SERIES!
I hope to make an announcement soon about this! I am building a group-based community platform to be able to offer additional support 💜
@@studiomdesignsco that’s great. Thank you. ☺️
@@kaleyjanenigh thank you. She did respond and is working on something ☺️
Hi Mandy! First if all, huge thank you for your hard work and tons of useful info! You are the best!
Secondly, I have watched some of your series and, again, I am in awe!
I haven’t put anything to practice yet, as I am the minority who enjoys research, but I will definitely go back and do all my homework 📄 😂
Keep up being so awesome and I will be watching out for the new videos 🎉
thank you for this!
Keep going! Follow the data and don’t give up - it can take a little time to find your rhythm and start seeing sales 💜
I have a question. Should I open a print on demand etsy shop without ever purchasing off of etsy?
Very informative. Thank you ❤
Another great video! 👏🏼
Thx for sharing your strategy.
Masterclass. Thank you!
Mandy! I just discovered your channel and wanted to thank you for teaching us how to do research!
Blessing to you girl!
🙏
Hi,if i live in Israel and i use pod on etsy can i add my location in usa,or it is too risky
Thanks for being here 🤓
Exactly how I used chat gpt before I watched this. Very effective
I like u and ur style. Ty!
why Pinterest versus google for growing trend?
i dont understand, according to printify and others like them say that you have to pay them, i thought when the customer comes to your shop on etsy, they pay for it? so is it i would pay for it also?
You are essentially outsourcing fulfillment and are the middle person. So an Etsy order comes in and the customer pays you. Then you have to pay for the cost/shipping of the item in order for Printify to send the order to your customer. Your goal is to set up your pricing so that you have a profit at the end of it 😊
Great stuff. Thank you
Hello Mandy thank u for the great content I'm watching all of your videos.
That is what it looks like with the EverBee Chrome extension installed (I can click into the side bar while I’m on Etsy to look at product and search analytics) 😊
fantastic information
Sorry I missed how you made a keyword list ( dog mom) that you were blue to add keywords to? I can’t seem to figure that out. Did you have a time stamp for that or another video I should watch?
I made the dog mom version in a previous niche video, but when you do a keyword search in eRank there’s just a little blue box in the bottom left that you can click into to make one or go to Tools > Keyword Lists, and then as I search I just click the star next to keywords to add them to the active list 😊
@@studiomdesignsco thanks, i was having trouble finding it
