What if there was flammable and toxic gas (e.g., methane or hydrogen sulfide) in the mine that could easily trigger an explosion that travels through the tunnels? That would be quite cool. (Unfortunately, Liberty Country doesn't just have that kind of realistic chemistry)

Hydrogen sulfide isn’t toxic, that’s the bad smell we smell when we fart, however, it is corrosive and poisonous. It might be quite rare to find inside of a mine as most biproducts of mining industries include slag, zinc, iron ore and molten metals.
