    I’m so sorry for Jasper. A friend of ours was just going to move up there for a job but has had to change plans. My hearts aches for the people, the town and the forests. Hope the fire is better contained now and that things cool off there soon. Thank you firefighters! Stay safe

    Happy you got to experience the Jasper area one more time before the fire had its way. I am not sure what has been left standing in the forests surrounding the community and to the south. Loved your heartfelt comments at the end of the video and glad you are safe. I watched the fires rage to the edge of Osoyoos last year and my appreciation and awe for what the fire fighters are able to do now knows no bounds. They were incredible in the Rockies this year. They are so skilled and give it everything they have.
    Loved all the beautiful spots you stayed at and shared so wonderfully before the heat forced you home! Thank you for sharing.

      We didn’t actually do much this time in Jasper, and given the situation we chose not to publish it, but we have been there several times and love the area! We are not too sure of the impact to the forests either at this time. And yes, the work that folks due with regard to wildfires is amazing. Appreciate your comment! 🚐

    glad you were safely out of Jasper in time. How tragic and all of us have wonderful memories. We named our cat Jasper after our 2020 trip! We were in the Cariboo and had a few fires around our cabin, but thankfully the local volunteer fire department were top notch! We drove home via Duffy Lake road and saw your fav winery Ft Berens! Safe travels!

      Thank you…and yes, Gordon actually has a drone license, but there are so few areas for us to fly in. Almost all parks either don’t allow or you have to get permission in advance. Still in some areas it would be nice! Yes, a tough time for many in Jasper.

    I have spent a lot of time within the Boreal forest that basically spans Canada. northern Ontario, northern Manitoba, northern Alberta and of course my home province of BC. Some of the time camping, some actually living and working. All I can say is when it decides to burn, burn it will and the only thing stopping it will be a large body of water or a rock face. My heart goes out to those who have lost homes, Alberta seems to have many hardy souls whose families homesteaded generations ago, they have lost more than a home or business. They have lost history, a sense of place...its all sad.

    We are so sad about Jasper. We seem to be losing every summer a favorite place due to wildfires. Last summer it was Cathedral Lakes. We have lost a couple of favorite places in the States due to wildfires. We used to go to Lassen national park every summer but our favorite spot there burned too. Nancy

      @@douglasmcbryan3705 yes, a challenge and it will be a difficult period there for a while. In the past we have also spent a lot of time at Cathedral and surrounding area..still closed until next year we suspect.

    Do you precool the van while driving, recharging the batteries while you drive?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@milesfong3901 in short, yes. Batteries fully charge after perhaps 90 minutes or less, but the AC from the van chassis really only keeps the back of van at a moderate temp at best. Camping in the shade works best, but you are usually at ambient air temp or slightly higher just using fan. If the van is cool at the start of the day it can stay cool for a while if not in the sun. Of course, then little to no solar. Overall it works fine if not extreme heat.
