I would recommend the Build Vision mod. You are able to control each item from a simple window, as well as being able to re-name that item while you are looking at it. It is a game changer.
Circle drills can handle depth of up to 3m safely per rotation and speed of .60 rotation speed. Set a max extension of 3m then wait for a full rotation and extend another 3m.
you've done pretty well as beginner on Space Engineers game, as other mentioned ticking 'share inertia tensor' it makes the base structure pistons, rotors and hinges solid and wouldn't flex as much so they won't go flopping about when got unstuck cos you don't want to be anywhere near that as that can really knock you out 😵 When you plan to build the mining drill platform again, to get the piston extending really slow hover the mouse on the velocity bar, right click which brings up the speed numbers up and set the exact speed you want it to go. Moving the bar left and right only change 1m/s at the time which is too fast for mining feed rate, the suitable feed rate would be about 0.05m/s and the rotor say about 1rpm (your choice and experiment how you pleased 😁), you don't want to spin too fast as the drill mine the surface every 1 sec. Very fortunate you got the turret towers built up and ready! nice going Monkey 🙌
Thanks for the tips! I’m really excited to try the drill again after all of the awesome advice I’ve gotten, and it was perfect timing! The reavers came knocking the second I finished everything, hopefully the defense is enough to defend against the actual military also 😳
Best way I have found to do drills is to make then + shaped. If you do a line of drills with the piston at one end, then the drills will have to make a complete revolution to carve out a circle. If you put the piston in the middle of the line, then It only needs to make half a revolution to carve a circle. This allows you to carve the ground out at twice the speed, given the circle will have a radius half the size for the same number of drills. A + shape will mean that only a quarter of a turn will be needed for a 4 times speed boost. Also, as the drill line gets farther from the center of rotation, it may not be possible to prevent snagging with the setup you have and a + shaped may be needed. This is due to that large circumference of higher radius circles. The drills at the ends have a lot of ground to cover compared to the ones at the center. Having 2 or even 4 drills doing it helps a lot. Since the materials that the drill are made of can easily be extracted from stone, and the resources recycled with no loss, I opt for the + shape, slowly growing it as I go. Also consider that the shorter the distance is from rotation, the faster you will be able to drill down, as there is less circumference to your circle that you have to carve through. Usually I will put a conveyor right under the piston and do a + of 4 drills right off that. When I refine enough stone for 4 more, I will raise it up, add the 4, and then start drilling from the surface again until I have the desired circumference. Also, I usually use small ship drills with a conveyor between them. Use your rotor to connect large grid to small grid. And do not forget to share inertia tensors. It will save you a lot of wobbling and clang.
Drill ship name...Albatross...LOL I commented on your first video about the drill system. I saw someone posted same answer in more detail on THIS episode, so I won't go over that again. One other thing I would suggest, not only for attacks but for the weather (lightning). I would set at least 4 decoys in a perimeter of your base. Reavers are fine, turrets can shred them but the Lightning! I can destroy a lot real quick. I'm surprised you haven't had to rebuild solar or anything else yet. Enjoying the series so far though.
I love drilling from base, my design would be solid conveyor for lateral, then as many down pistons you can fit, then rotor/hinge, then one last piston with a single drill, it’s super stable and mines out a giant hole
turn on your share inertia on all your drills hinges to prevent the shaking also make a decoy for that lightning it will try and kill you if you got decoy the lightning will aim for that name mini muncher
Gotcha, I was curious if the decoy would help with the lightening, off camera while building my base, it was struck by lightning and was quite frustrating 😤😂
It's easier to move pison slowly down and control the max distance rather then fiddling with speed unless you are trying to extend it down fast, Also share inertia stabalizes pistons and rotors a lot, and go slow going down rotation doesn't really matter
Biggest bottleneck on drilling is the amount of stone. I like an event detector on the drill attached to the rotator. Turn off drills/actuators on 25% full, reactivate 0%. I also put a sensor on the drill head so it extends the piston down one tick per rotation. Detect on the arm holding out the rotor.
Biggest problem with your drill was that you had it suspended on pistons. The more mechanical crap you add the more it wiggles. A just-downward piston stack with drills is usually pretty stable if you use solid blocks to support it.
Honestly, you would have had better luck with the drill if you placed one in the center, and then 2-3 coming off of each side in all 4 directions, that way they can dig through everything they need too while turning.
Set descent piston to max distance 0m, speed 0.5m/sec. Make one turn of the drills at 0.5 rpm then increase max distance of the descent to 1m. One turn, repeat... Five turrets on top of a ONE BLOC large pillar ... only one shot can take down all the assembly. You miner ship should have bumbers made of blast door blocks
Yay a new episode! Ok other than power supply could you build a subterranean bunker facility to build weapons and technology to fight back? (Like the Germans and Japanese had to in the months leading to their defeat. Don't worry your situation is different so you're not heading towards defeat) You can use your drilled out mines to start out your bunker. Could use rock surplus to cover the bunker? Sorry have too many ideas sometimes, often game mechanics just won't let me create my ideas
The way i see it, you need balance. the drills 4 on one side isn't enough. You need them on the other side as well. Think of a square of drills. Then, they need support thinking real physic.you didnt need to add the two pistions to the hole. Make a scaffold to the hole, add a pistion downwards to the iron.
Subscriber 757. Interested in watching your previous series, so I know how much work went into the previous base that went boom. Oh no, I don't see it :(
Maybe if you turn around and stop using four of them and only use two it might be a little bit more sufficient and put a extra balance beam down to the ground for better support
to bad, the drill design was not bad, if you do it again, 1st thing name all your pistons rotors hinges drills etc. then dont go so fast, drill's at 0.001 but pistons at 0.0001 as they will all go down at once, then set up a control pad at your base looking at the drill so you can see what it's doing and control each function of the drill with 1 press of the button
Hey, I found this cideo through recommendations. For the dril, you might want to enable "Share Intertia Tensors" on rotors, hinges and pistons, that reduces the wobblyness of subgrids massively. And about the video, please see it as constructive criticism: sadly I won't follow them because I got a bit of motion sickness from watching it. You have the tendency of circling something with the mouse to point at it which moves the whole screen quickly. it would be better to just point at it. Also by describing it as e.g. "the front part", "Left side", "right side" instead of "this part" might give a more interesting commentary. I know, good commentary while explaining is hard. Good luck with your channel.
I know you shake the camera to emphasise what you are saying but to the viewer it leads to seasickness. Keep your camera panning steady. There's a reason the noobs shake the camera and the pros don't. You never see neebs gaming wobbling the view around like this intro of the first 2 mins.
@darthbuzz1 yeah some people aren’t as interested in the process, just the results! But I too enjoy watching the building process, I’ll include more for you 👍
Dude, basic math , if drills broke down - YOU SHOULD SLOW DOWN ! Goddammit, standard milling process , if instrument not efficient enough add speed , but reduce feeds . By adding speed of rotation on hinge you adding amount of material that goes to drills ! Add common sense!? Add drills or slow down !
You have to check "share inertia tensor" and put that on! So it doesn't jump like that!
I’ll have to do that!
Do it for advanced rotor and pistons!@@ResearchMonkey437
only share inertia tensor after the first rotor, hinge, or piston.
@@ResearchMonkey437 share inertia tensor on all except the one on the main grid
@@txgorilla ^^^ What they said!
With a drill like that, you want to go SLOW. .5 rotation speed, 0.001 piston extension speed.
Yep
This
I usually do 0.02 to 0.025. Much faster becomes a problem.
Ctrl + leftklick on the bar to fine tune btw :)
that's what i was going to mention as well slow and steady wins the race
I would recommend the Build Vision mod. You are able to control each item from a simple window, as well as being able to re-name that item while you are looking at it. It is a game changer.
I actually have it already! But I don’t think I truly use it for all it’s worth 😅 I just got the mod
needed to wait for the drills to complete a full rotation before the piston to go down

When drilling.. start with .001 and then add increments of the same .002-.025 gotta slow things right down. .1 is to fast
I commented on EP1. But you need build vision and build info. Check out those mods as they are great QOL mods.
I’ll check it out 👍
I would recommend Sneaky Sound for a little bit less drill and grinding sound. Gl
I’ll definitely be adding that for episode 3!
turn on your share inertia on all your drills hinges to prevent the shaking also make a decoy for that lightning it will try and kill you if you got decoy the lightning will aim for that name mini muncher

Would the drill system be more stable if the rotator was more central to the actual drills?
That would be recommendation. It will drill out evenly. I made mine rotate really fast 30 RPM and then piston done at like .1
Keep up the dedication man 👍
Thanks bro!
How about Rock Lobster 🦞. It's kinda what it looks like.
Creative! I like it!

Yeah I was thinking that, I’m going to give the drill idea another shot I promise
😂 I tried the circle drill and I had similar problems I have no idea what I’m doing
Enjoyed the video thanks heaps
Thank you for watching!
That's the joy of the game
I use a mod called production quota.. Lets you go to your assembler make a pre list with production. Like ammo and components.
ctrl click to specify lower incriments of speed, i find that 0.01 is pretty good for drills i think, itll display as 0 but its not
you can do fine input for the speed with ctrl click in the menu
Great work on the base👍
Thanks! Took quite a while to build, glad you like it 👍
You play some of my fav games, I no longer have a comp so I’ll enjoy following your SE and Ark play through.

That drill was definitely user error. Surprised only the drills broke off and not exploding at the hinge.
Yeah it was 😂 I know it’s not the drills fault lol
The iorn clad
That’s a good one too!
Great vids . I appreciate your time.
I appreciate you for watching!
Seems like a chill dude, i enjoy the SE content so far, You've erned my sub keep it up man
Thanks bro, appreciate the sub ✌️
The drill is more stable if you have an equal number of drills on both sides of the center drill. They will also be more efficient.
re-make the drill add block groups and links buttons to them it should work
Honestly, you would have had better luck with the drill if you placed one in the center, and then 2-3 coming off of each side in all 4 directions, that way they can dig through everything they need too while turning.
Yeah that’s a good point, less chance of them getting stuck
This is a fun playthrough, but you might want to spend some time looking into how other folks design their low-end ships.
I like combat in thia game so sastifying!good job for defence tower. Just careful with rocket drone those are much pain.
i think you should name it the flying sub cause it looks like a submarine in the air
I could definitely see that

Butterfly is good!
Name for the mining ship: Since it hovers call it Humming bird or Dragonfly.

call it the brick of hope
Slow that piston down. press CTL and click on the speed to bring up a text box and enter 0.01. A rotation of 0.5-1rpm should be fine.
Just about to say, share inertia on pistone and rotor
Maybe lower your drills to the ground then disconnect it from up the top so it doesn't fall down and crash add an extra piston
The way i see it, you need balance. the drills 4 on one side isn't enough. You need them on the other side as well. Think of a square of drills. The ship should be called lobstore cuz it looks like a lobster and it collects ore
You play like I do. Honestly, it makes me feel better
Did you put all the piston on share inertia? It might help hopefully the clang lords don't give the middle finger for it
Set your max distance on the piston in 2 meter increments and wait for 2 revolutions then go down 2 more meters and so on
Waht mod do u have for the robos?
Its called Nanobot Build and Repair system, its amazing!
In my testing i do about 5 long but i run rotor at 0.5 and piston at 0.01 and never had an issue. And share the inertia tension
A fish name'd "Revenge"

Instead of changing the piston speed change the piston max distance and leave the speed at 0.5 fyi
the ships name should be dumbo! the front facing thrusters look like ears
I love that! They really do lol
call t the dingy
for the miner Dumby due to the thruster ears

Piston then rotor not rotor then piston
Gotcha! I’ll revisit it in the next episode
ok. i fixed u. i put you on 75% replay and that makes u closer to watchable. lol
The lobster

All of you guys lol

Too much setup, far better to use DrillSystem

Hello, I feel left out from the base building.
You showed precisely 0 of it.
This is a 'base building' game... I want to see 'base building'.
Apologies! Can definitely do more base building on camera 👍
@@ResearchMonkey437 I am aware that I'm the only 1 who mentioned this so perhaps this isn't what people want. Thanks for replying.

another hyper active person trying to do content videos. if u cannt slow down then u need to just do videos for children. 16 and under
