Joost, who was in After Forever with Floor, is the musical director of these shows. Arjen just turns the organization of the music over to him while he does the other logistics with his wife. These are not only some of the finest musicians on the planet, but some of the finest people. Arjen is a quality magnet. He "discovered" Floor when she was sixteen and she basically answers his every call. Lisette is the one hitting the "dog whistles" and her power is remarkable. Marcela and Irene are beyond amazing. Martin on guitar is matching Joost note for note, as well as Ed on drums. These are the absolute finest musicians who are basically unknown in many parts of the world, especially the musically ignorant US (yes,. I'm an American). Thanks for sharing your passion and enthusiasm ... keep digging into the Ayreon rabbit hole, it's so very worth the digging.

FYI Ayreon has a new live show coming in 2023 in Tilburg and they were supposed to only have a 3 shows in a 3000 capacity venue, but they had to extend it to 6 shows, Ayreon was flabbergasted by this. If you loved Maggy's gravely voice and the backup singers, then Intergalactic Space Crusaders should be your next Ayreon reaction. 😀

The most recent great live project was "Into the Electric Castle." A side project and another opera. The live songs are in the Ayreon Universe. It is beyond the year 2084 when humanity has destroyed itself and the Forever (who descended from the fugitives from planet Alpha) decided to save what could be recovered from human emotions. They recollected some individuals from different times and places out of humanity to be on a quest for survival. Six males and two females are resurrected. Only four of the males and none of the females make it to survive. You will recognize Anneke van Giersbergen and Simone Simons as resp. the Egyptian and the Indian. The Egyptian becomes demotivated as her gods do not appear and departs for the Valley of the Queens. (!) There is also a Hippie... This is the role that Arjen always performs himself.. So funny. And the Forever narrator, who speaks in poems! His agent was not so much interested but John de Lancie (aka Startrek's Q) wanted to taste the experience and enjoyed it fully.
Ayreon live is such a great thing. I'd suggest two others: Into The Black Hole and Intergalactic Space Crusaders (both from the Ayreon Universe concerts)

There’s a less well celebrated project of Arjen’s called Guilt Machine which he co-wrote with his partner Lori (she wrote the lyrics). Personally it’s the album of his that I listen to most often, it’s darker in tone than his usual stuff. Possibly the reason it’s less noted is because there are no videos apart from a trailer for the album. The closest thing is one of the songs performed at the Electric Castle concert with Damian Wilson on lead vocals in place of the original singer, Jasper Sterverlinck. (anybody correct me if I am wrong, but...) Where this mr Sullivan says B6 should that not be B5? (half a tone down from C6 = B5, because the step in number is done at the C, so B5 is right next to C6. Therefore B6 would only be one half step away from C7 (!!) And it seems very unlikely that any male singer could reach such a note. Even for women we are in whistle note territory there...

I understand (and appreciate) that this is a Vocal Channel, but I have one 'instrumental' comment to make about the very opening bit. At the outset, there is a little percussive element which sounds similar to a steam engine chugging along. To those of us who've listened to a stethoscope, it also sounds a little like the 'lub-dub' made by a beating heart (w/the rhythm swung to a jazz beat)... and the sound ENDS right on the first "Everybody Dies" lyric. How appropos for a song with this title? I'm not sure if Arjen intended that bit of irony, but it makes me smile every time I hear it. (ooooh, that sounds a little weird.. not intended) I'm sorry I missed the notice about this Live Stream.

In the the documentary on the blu-ray Maggy Luyten (pronounced as 'lighten') is a such a sweet, soft-spoken woman. That massive voice does not fit her tiny frame.

There are 2 live ayereon concerts up to date , the Ayreon universe live is the best of with a story line with all songs comming from different albums, The 2nd one In to the electrick castle and other tales is the full Electric castle album added with some side project songs . And this concert has some suprises in singers musicians and actors. rangong from the 60 s-70s - 80s -90s up till now .

The whole concert is great, and there are more singers in other songs, all just as good as these. My favourite is Damian Wilson.
