Yes, Herrschner's brand softens with a wash and the plump will even out. The newer yarns get softer, but they start out wound tighter. So they are a bit compressed in the ball.

Herrschners yarn does soften in the wash. I love the worsted 8 yarn especially for cardigans. The newer lines do seem a little bit more compacted than the older ones, but they do seem to plump up after a wash as well.

Great video (as always) lol I have shopped Herrschners for decades - they have great prices and a super sale right now - i got yarn for $1-3/ball and it is really nice!

I've used Herrschner's yarn since the early 70's. Their brand usually softens with each wash.
