Alagalla Mountain Range ( Off Peak Hiking )

Alagalla, also known as the Potato Mountain, is a popular hiking destination in Sri Lanka located in Central Province of Sri Lanka, near the towns of Kandy and Kadugannawa
The hike usually starts from Ihala Kotte Railway Station, reachable by train or road. Alagalla stands at around 1,140 meters (3,740 feet) above sea level. The hike covers roughly 5-6 kilometers (3-4 miles) one way, depending on the chosen path. Typically, it takes about 3-5 hours to reach the summit, with the descent taking around 2-3 hours. It is moderately challenging, due to steep inclines and rough terrain.
The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, valleys, and tea plantations. Hikers can encounter diverse wildlife, including various bird species, and lush vegetation. The trail features interesting rock formations and cliffs, adding to the adventure. The area has historical importance, with stories linked to ancient battles and local folklore.
