    Pro Tip: Batumi with the expert or individual wavebank firmware can do this exact sequencing concept from the ASGN outputs in QUAD mode with ASGN set to Trapezoid. From the QUAD mode section of the alt firmware manual... "You can also use triangle, saw and ramps from the assignable ASGN outputs, but there is one exception in this mode: trapezoid has been replaced by a square. Contrary to the SQUARE output, which will always be binary, these squares are summed together, therefore producing repetitive sampled voltages. This square waveform is perfect to generate surprising sequences: feed the first assignable output to the FM input of your oscillator and change the levels."

    I like to think of this technique as an analog computer. You still have 4 bits but instead of just binary values they represent whatever value are set by the knob they are directed into. So as the "digit" turns on and off, it adds or removes whatever value its placeholder represents.

    • @BeniRoseMusic
      @BeniRoseMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! This is precisely why i bought a Vector Space just a week after I got that multi-channel ADDAC quantizer! It’s so satisfying, you just patch & fine tune and at some point beauty just emerges. And depending on how you set it up, it can be quite generative. The WORNG Vector Space is a highly underrated module. Maybe because it’s not 8hp. 😉 The ADDAC is just so performable. It beats the pants off of any quantizer with a menu

    The 65€ Doepfer A-115 (*) is perfect for this technique. Less flexible than with free running LFOs, but it only needs a clock.
    It's fairly easy after some time to understand how turning one of the knobs will affect the sequence.
    Also, technically, this is kind of like editing (some of) the coefficients of the Walsh-Hadamard transform of the sequence, rather than the sequence itself - some kind of additive synthesis applied to the shape of the sequence, rather than micromanaging the value of each step.
    (*) the output coupling jumper needs to be set to DC.

  • @ranzee

      @BackspinZX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrTombocho Long story short, he's shoving a bunch of LFOs that go from 0v to (I'm assuming) +5v at their output, and attenuating them so they're somewhere in between 0 and +5v (using the Quadratt up top) and running them all into each other (also via the Quadratt up top) so they stack together. This gives you a sort of free-flwoing, changing stepped voltage sequence that's always evolving because the LFOs are all free-running and are moving at different speeds. At that point, you run them into a quantizer, and the voltages get turned into a usable set of notes in a generative sequence.
      It's genius, really.
