At night before sleep I always pray for peace on this planet and for the oppressed to be free. I visualise healing hands and healing colours wrapped around this planet. No more suffering to animals.

@@FloatingFont the reality is something has to die to put food on the plate. Just depends which way you approach it. I eat only grass fed animals from my own country. I don’t contribute to mono-cropping which is decimating wildlife nor do I pay for my food to shipped/flown all over the world. I think we can all agree factory farming is abhorrent but it’s not the only way.

@@FloatingFont Buddha and Christ were not vegan. Nothing especial or virtuous about being a "vegan" actually most vegans are in the West instead of the east and the West is not the most virtuous place in the world to say the less. Dalai Lama is not vegan neither, neither Rumi was vegan or even vegetarian leading to huge killings of insect, earth worms and sentient beings or deforestation to plant monocrops , the use of pesticides and the like.

When we come across another human being in dire need or an animal in distress, because it's caught in a barbed wired fence or tangled up in a net, most peoples first instinct is to go and help them out. And I believe we do it out of the selfless love of our divine spirit and the recognition that they're a part of us and we're a part of them. So a service like that ain't out of ego or greed, but rather to help the light of our consciousness shine on. Thanks Eckhart.

That's not true. Helping other people is integral to our very nature. Without our ability to help, we rob ourselves of the capacity to learn the skills necessary to function as competent and generous individuals in society. We need that reciprocal arrangement for business, the economy, and peace in general. Without this, we descend into the prioritization of selfish and lowly values, which only hurt ourselves and others, even if indirectly.

Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to move on, I really loved her so much i can't stop thinking about her and the memories we shared. I've tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail. I'm frustrated, and i don't see my life with anyone else. I've done my best to get rid of the thoughts, but i can't. When I am giving my time and energy at a particular venue for others, I've gotten to the point of such a "relaxed" state, of being with others there who are sick and suffering (physically and mentally) that I've learned to forget my needs. My phone is silenced and in my pocket. I have no watch; I'm simply "there". David Brooks and others have called it "Deep Listening" or "Radical Presence". It has a timeless and holy sense about it. Thank you, Lord!

This is Eckhart in his best as his teaching; as EcKhart has said at other times, the Ego wants more, always more, an insatiable, unsatisfying treadmill-road to nowhere.
Dr Eben Alexander puts it in a similar way to this youtube of Eckhart: 'Our true pure self is completely free; it is not crippled or compromised by past actions, or concerned with identity or status; it comprehends it has nothing to fear in this earthly realm. and therefore no need to build itself up through fame, wealth, or conquest.'

Both. When you sincerely receive, you give the person the give if giving. They are equal, like breathing in and out. When two people share a hug or kiss, each is both giving and receiving. There can be a lot of ego in wanting to only give. People who refuse to receive are people one may not want to interact with much. It's not mutual or two way. One begins to feel indebted. They are experienced as always pushing out, never open to receiving. Some givers see themselves as superior and stronger to people who they see as needing help.

Unconditional Love , as opposed to physical energy is eternal, spiritual and invisible. It has neither beginning nor ending as it's eternal. Love in the human or physical sphere, always has limitations as I cannot t possibly ever physically give without ultimately burning myself out. The only real love we can ever give, that's worth giving, is unconditional love. As it comes from my spiritual connection with its source and is therefore limitless.

There are a lot of social persons in social care sytems which doing it so obvious for themself. Not only to feel better for themself - thats at least somesting that each of us can understand i guess - but for power over others. 'Weaker' people can defend themself so good because they have empathy and want feel others to feel bad, and so the power hungry like to tell them how world goes and what they have to do and not to do, order them around in a sort of way, and not really helping for giving help. Always care for others 'and' yourself, one sided is never good.

The only possible way to help others is by helping yourself with spiritual enlightenment. The rest are ephemeral, complicated recipes that produce furuncles in the mind.

I try to live a life of service. I don’t worship money, fame, status, power, or self. I don’t care for acquiring material things. I only want to wake up again.
My service life might not be coming from the perfect place in me tho. I understand what you meant by that.
I suffered a lot of abuse and trauma in my life. It makes me question if I am actually “good” or not. Or is this just ego coming in the back door. All self help is ego trying to be better.
How can you win tho? The evil in me gets buried cause I really desire to be a good person.
I guess until one looks at their dark side you are at risk of projecting your flaws onto others. Idk where to go from here.
Anyone else in as much of a mental mess as me?

You need to be in a good way. Otherwise you truly have not to give anything.....if you choose so.

My experiences have been not to do it .... there are too many unconscious people in my current spiritual group and most encounters have an unpleasant after taste ... So now I dont really see the need as all of us in essence are consciousness, never born and never die, they are good as they are

Quite a complex answer, I for instance gave a homeless man £20 so he could sleep in a shelter, my son was present and noticed but that was not the reason.
What about aid workers in Gaza risking their lives? Of course we feel good when we hep someone, this is undeniable, to just help an old lady off the bus with heavy shopping, simply acknowledging someone can lift them I believe, if they look somewhat depressed, letting someone cross the street in your car, how do these acts fit in with what Eckhart is saying?
They ate somewhat egoic, yet also the intention is good, why is the path to evil laden with acts of good intention?
