My Dad is a retired chippy, if you draw the saw along the underside edge nearest you before you start sawing you reduce the potential splitting of the wood, also take longer strokes with the saw, let the saw do the work. Love the channel thanks 🙏

I'm pretty sure you're already aware of forstner bits but as you didn't mention them I think they might be of interest to others who might want to build this. forstner bits are an alternative to the spade bit but create a much cleaner hole in soft woods.

Pro tip: the handle of a hand saw cam be used as a square of you lay the blade flat on your workpiece. In fact it also does 45 degrees of you rotate it. And it's a lot longer than a regular square.
Just a thought - I would have offset the cut of the shelf board a few CMs so that the upper shelf is a little shorter. I feel it would look more "balanced"... But always so well explained.

I recently ruined a desktop I was building because I used Titebond II wood glue to make my ‘DIY Filer’ and was horrified to see it did not dry the same color as the wood but was notable darker. The bog-standard non-Titebond yellow wood glue worked fine. Livid and irreparable for stain. I used dust from my sander as it was finer than sawdust.
I purchase from all different places as you can imagine and I find there is no one shop that ticks all the boxes. If I want a large amount of timber for a project, B&Q is the last place I would look. However, for the average DIY'er who wants to get something done over the weekend, places like B&Q are easy to deal with and you can see exactly what you are getting hence their popularity. My local builders merchants who have the cheapest timber will not allow you into the yard to even see it because of forklifts operating!
Hi there! Those drills are vicious! As they pull the bit in with the front thread I thought I was going to drill Thro ugh the piece and the board underneath and my work bench! I was constantly holding it back. I think they would be excellent for quick holes through timbers for cables and pipes.
Really Good Video - I do have one question? - Where do you get the 3D mini-me -replicate of yourself on the left-hand top of your shelves - Do you use digital scanning?
Great video as always . Even though you have a snip saw you showed how to do it by hand ideal for the DIY . We have a saying in the trade (in glue and dust I place my trust if that won't do then putty must ) sanding before the glue is dry works well thanks for sharing kind regards Shaun

I got a few pennies change from that! Good question about keeping the drill perpendicular as it's such a comment thing to do yet all of us have an issue with it. I will release a short video on this just for you in within the next month.

The best drill bits, I've found, for use with a cordless drill are Wood Owl Overdrive bits. Minimal tear out when drill through ply or solid wood.

Yes Titebond is quite dark and to start with. Good tip about the fine dust

Thanks. For something like this use any glue. If you are going for a better quality I would use Titebond

B&Q broom handles are 28mm - so just used a 28mm bit

I think its called a Stanley 'White' which is one of the best I have but cannot find it being sold any more!
When you fill the gaps with the wood/sawdust trick, it's better to sand straight afterwards, rather than leaving it to dry
