    Hi Jen! It's so kind of you to a) notice where my subscriber count is, and b) encourage your viewers to give me the boost to break the 100K mark! I can't thank you enough for your interest and your support. And, BTW, I always smooth out the top edge of my sheets and pillow cases before tossing them into the dryer, but I didn't know that was hand ironing! Who knew that was a thing! I've been subscribed to your channel for quite a while now, and I will definitely subscribe to Bluegrass Dreams 2 Seams!

      Hi Catherine! I really do hope you hit 100k - you deserve it! Wish I'd been able to come to the retreat in Seattle. I do love Vancouver, been there a couple of times and loved the city. I had no idea you watched my channel! I get so many great ideas from you - hopefully will be doing a video soon of widening some cropped pants. We shall see - I doubt I'll ever do it as well as you do but I'll certainly try. Your trip to Italy is so tempting - but I think I'll hold out for the next retreat. My only trip to Italy was a complete disaster and I vowed never again to go without my husband (or with my #3 daughter!). Looking forward to whatever you create next!

    Glad all is well with you in Florida and hope your Mum is feeling better. Hand ironing is something we probably do unconsciously as washing is transferred to the dryer quite often. My Mum used to roll up jeans to reduce creases and never had to iron them. Very pretty dress you are wearing! Kind regards from Penny 🇬🇧😊💕

    Hi Jen: I didn't know there was a term "hand ironing" until your program. I will wash 100% cotton fabric and dry it in a hot dryer. Then, I'll take the (always) wrinkled fabric, spray it with water, "hand iron" it, and then roll it up for about 15 mins. before using a real iron on it. The wrinkles come out so much easier. Cotton wrinkles can be a real bear to get out, but this method works very, very well. Thanks for the new (old?) sewing term! Yes, praise God for Gov. DeSantis!!!!!! I'm so incredibly impressed with his leadership and God-given, Solomon-like wisdom in which he manages the state and sends human resources where needed - in state and out!!! (I was watching his press conferences for a year before moving here.) As you know, I'm a new FL transplant, but you'd be surprised at the number of Californians that wish DeSantis was the governor there. The current CA governor doesn't hold regular press conferences, doesn't give the CA citizens regular up-to-date news about what's going on - zero, zilch, nada info from him. Heaven only knows what Gavin 'Nuisance' actually does other than rub elbows with the rich and famous CA people, especially during a world-wide pandemic when he tells his people to stay home. So glad I'm not in CA anymore! Anyway, I'm so happy to hear that your mother didn't break a hip in a fall, which is what happened to my 90 yr old father (deceased in 2002). I will keep your parents in prayer for continued health and strength! 🙏🏻🥰 BTW: The top of the dress you are wearing in his vlog fits you so well. Can you use this hack pattern for a t-shirt? Dori

    • @TodayinJensSewingRoom
      @TodayinJensSewingRoom  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have a great process for getting ready to iron. I should try some of that. And don't even get me started on Gavin Newsom. I will not have complimentary things to say! Thanks for the prayers for my mom. Mark's mom went through a fall and didn't survive; she was 96. Great minds think alike! I did consider the top of that dress but I don't like the extended shoulder for that particular top. Back to the t-shirt drawing board! xox

    My mother always tried to hang clothes up to dry in a way that would minimize ironing later - there was so much housework "back in the day" that women were always trying to save themselves some work! Hurricanes can be so unpredictable and I am glad you were spared while so sad for those who weren't. Good luck with getting the skirt right - it will be worth it since you've gone this far with it! The scripture reminds us that we can only really hope in God!

      My grandmother was the same way. It was a way of life. Did yours have the coke bottle with holes poked in the cap? My grandma filled it with water and starch when she ironed. What a great memory.

      @@TodayinJensSewingRoom My mom had a bottle with a cork and metal cap "sprinkler head" that I guess was from the 5&10. My sister had to have a starched nurse's cap so the caps were put in a bucket of Linit starch and then laid flat on an old kitchen table in the basement to dry so they'd be nice and stiff. Other ironing was dipped in the Linit and put in a plastic bag in the fridge until it was time to iron - I use spray starch in the can - lazy, right 😁?!?

    Sending prayers for your mother. Glad to hear you and your family did great through the hurricanes. I haven’t been doing the best. Just been having some things going on and I’ve been diagnosed with adult onset asthma.( I had child hood asthma.) of course insurance company denied my first inhaler and it took couple more days to order approved one through pharmacy. So in the meantime my condition got worse. My chest was heaving in & out with absolutely no rest whatsoever. I couldn’t even get enough air to hardly speak. Finally I got my inhaler and what a miracle from God. I can breathe so much better. I’m still a bit sore from the extreme workout my chest got and I do tire easily but that is getting better. Trying to get better so we can get to Florida on November 1. This will be our last trip to Florida as my son has taken a job in North Carolina. His wife has a job interview this coming week. Going to cut our travel time in half. I’ll miss Florida but also looking forward to a change. Needless to say sewing came to an abrupt halt. I am hoping maybe by end of week to get back into it.

    Jen, you are in pattern hell! You are too good a seamstress to keep wasting your time on engaging a new pattern every time you sew. Take your favorites, and hack them to make the styles you want. Then the clothing fits, is scaled to your frame, and you are happy with the results without making toiles all the time, and having a pile of rejects. The biggest reason I hear that sewists don’t do that is “I don’t want to take the time to do the pattern work”, but time and resources are used for “ tweaking” everything you make. These days, the only reason I look at pattern books is to get design and styling ideas, then I take a picture to refer to when I’m working with my basic “tried and true” patterns. It takes a lot of stress out of sewing. And . . . your new haircut looks great!
