There's so many, but the US Freestyle trifecta in Nagano was amazing. Johnny Moseley gold in moguls; Nikki Stone & Eric Bergoust golds in aerials.

    I remember those days.
I used to love watching this event
When they used to fall, and HURTLE down the mountain, the friction and speed would cause the suit fabric to virtually MELT into their skin, and they would get up screaming in pain. Yikes!

Yes, you will get burn blisters when falling at speeds above 150 km/h.
I used to Speed-Ski in Sweden in my youth and had some falls so there have been some blisters, but no melted suites ;-)
Suppose I wasn't fast enough with my top crash speed at 174 km/h through the timing gate. Personal speed record 198 km/h.
But that hurt a lot from burn blisters on legs, arms, bottom and back.

I feel like alpine skiing, what we have today, is much more terrifying. You don't get the same top speed but the course is much longer, more turns and there are parts where you cant see over the edge of the mtn and you have to trust yourself and your edges so much.

If you bring this back with nicer suits and helmets, you could totally make it work - You could even change the competition format a bit, maybe have a qualifying round, then the top8 go to quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze medal match and gold medal match. If that's too much racing, then just go for qualifying+top8 final.

    • @flex-cx9bi

The problem is that there are so few suitable slopes that are long and straight enough.
I suppose that's the main reason it didn't got established as a permanent Olympic sport.
A bit sad since the whatching value is quite high.

@@Quintendejong123 No, it's not that dangerous. Very few serious accidents in Speed-skiing compared to most other action sports.
The competitions is very well organised and the de-acceleration area is generous to prevent accidents when falling.
Consequenses of falls is normally burn blisters and brused skin.
Hurts quite a bit, but is gone in a week.

      @@Quintendejong123 Wrong...
It's not very dangerous, but it takes a lot of guts to do it and is a bit of show-off sport.
Downhill skiing is not for everyone eighter, and there are more serious accidents in downhill skiing, or in ski-cross which both are olympic sports.
