I have mixed feelings too. First, the Custom Factions - Nightstalkers being one, Forge Fathers, Veermyn, love these it's one these that make it amazing. This force has always been meh - like they are unsure what to do with it. Honourable - there is no reason to take this no matter how amazing the model is. I'm actually feeling kinda - let down by this faction and that rebels haven't really come back. Just - can't they hire you folx as creative consultants as ever since I've started following you the love of my Deadzone and FireFight games has gone way up and I can't find too much to argue with.
Appreciate the kind words. I was on the on the Rules committee, and we made 2.0, which changed the game for the better, but they went another set of dudes.🤷♂️ I do love all the factions you mentioned. I’m going to try and make these guys work, as a personal challenge.
They have to be good at something. Whether fighting, movement, shooting or able to bring a lot of models on the table. Of course this all doesn’t matter, if the player doesn’t have a strategy. A good plan will always make up the lack of what an army has.
@@familyofgamers777 100% agree but also i find if you try and be a jack of all ways to win you end up loosing. best bet is to focus on 1 Strat until you have lot of games under your belt. its a balance sure but if your playing veermin for example you main focus on a build is overwhelm your enemy or focus on the objective of the match and only get a kill when there is opening. it will feel bad loosing lots of rats but that's there strong point is to just out number. when the dust settles you will come out on top (some times).
Agreed. But remember, losing a lot of rats also racks up points for the opponent. So finding a balance in your play style is important. I’ve seen guys play a Veermyn army like an Enforcer army. It doesn’t work. Good to find the faction that fits how you play.
I'm glad you like the Haniwa name, that one is one of my favourites in this list, gives the Marionettes some distinct feel to them imho. Once you've faced a couple of Snipers or Flamers with Augmented you will see they aren't the same as your regular Marionettes though... ;) On another note, the Companion had problems uploading the keywords properly, so Outcast is missing these profiles: (you see that there is a gap in the keywords) Ota-Sora, Ronin, Bloodhounds and Predator
Good video. These guys go way back on the back burner for me. Thinking would rather run regular Asterians. Some cool minis though. Thanks Coach and FoG777 crew!
Really glad they changed Honorable so you can at least attack enemies running out of CC. Wish they'd gone further with changing it (and wish they'd phrased the new rule in a better way). Aside from that, also not sure how I feel; I'll have to try this out to see whether it works well or not. Definitely going to pick up the new models, they look cool.
I agree, it’s better, but not worded correctly. I like the models, but the head guy and mech don’t do it for me. I will try to run them and see how they do.
The way I read ‘Honourable’ is this: 1. You can’t shoot a model that is pinned. 2. If you attack a model in melee that is pinned (for which you would gain +1 dice) you would do no damage if you win the combat. So basically they won’t attack when their opponent is unable to defend themselves sort of thing.
I get that, if he’s pinned, you can fight or shoot it. It’s the way the rule is written in the companion app. I get what they were trying to say. You can always knockback into a wall.
Instead of Honorable, how about Stoic? Stoic - If a model with this keyword is reduced to Zero hot points, roll one due against the model's Survive skill. If successful, the model survives with One hit point.
Well, not exactly. If you knock back someone into a wall, or off a building, they take damage. Most of the time you have a wall to knock back an opponent into
@familyofgamers777 you're overthinking it. If a weapon had stun and knockback, it would deal no damage. This is a similar thing. If a model falls due to knockback, then that's diffrent, as its a player rolling for......"gravety" I belive it says in the rulebook
Ok, can I ask you a question. Why do you always try a gotcha moment with us? I’m not overthinking anything, if you knock back someone in combat, not shooting, you choose where to throw them. Into a wall, you roll for damage. Off the side of a building, if you’re high enough, you take falling damage. Knockback may say that it doesn’t cause damage, but if you play the game long enough, you know that it will cause damage, when they are thrown.
Personally, really didn't like the Matsudan release. Just a few thoughts: -As you have mentioned, samurai honour/bushido has nothing to do with giving a fair fight. Samurai honour has been more about personal conduct (dignity, poise in the court), loyalty, and stoic will to fight to the bitter end against overwhelming odds. -In actual East Asian cultures, honour isn't even the biggest virtue. There is intellectual brilliance, loyalty, filial piety, charity, sacrifice for the community and greater good. And with honour, there gets divided into honour by achievement, position, and dignity in court. Simplifying all of that as "honour", is seriously orientalist. If I was feeling particularly uncharitable, I would go on to say this was racist. -Why are these Space lizards Japanese anyways? Did they get culturally absorbed by the Kajima corporation? Are they pretending to use leftover Kajima-style armour, to hide advanced Matsudan tech in deadzones? Or did Neo-Matsudans create a Japanese culture completely separate from the GCPS for no explicit reason? I don't mind sci-fi borrowing from a hodge bodge of different cultures, but this just feels cheap - like little effort was spent to extrapolate a real culture on a sci-fi setting. Also the stats are... boring. 4+ Fight with Frenzy is so common in the game. I would have preferred it if Matsudans had more interesting rules, such as ignoring death (as @nerdstuffandreviews7578 mentioned), penalties to being wounded. Or how about giving Matsudan the ability to nullify fight dice penalties when fighting something bigger? They ARE sumo wrestles, after all! And this is all adding up from the frustration in the lack of support for existing factions (Rebs being ignored, GCPS still not having an ogre, etc).
I agree %10000 ! I can see them making samurai lizards in space, based off the Budo of the Sengoku period. Also, I agree that the samurai could give a fig about fair fights. These were the same guys that had a taxidermist with them to fix and preserve heads of fallen enemies. The models are just variations of old Matsudon. I would have liked to see this line revamped. The Rebs have been screwed over for a long time! The Orge will probably be in the Vault at some time. I’ll try these guys, but I’m not very optimistic.

@familyofgamers777 so what does it for you for factions? Like what are 3 must haves to make a good faction?
They have to be good at something. Whether fighting, movement, shooting or able to bring a lot of models on the table.

Also the Ozeki should have Suppression instead of Augmented, it was fixed rather quickly, but you were even quicker :)
They have a cool sumo/Japanese feel to them. Looking forward to running them. Wow, Outcast is a tough one. I get it on the Ronin.
Yes, suppression is a lot better.

They are OK, I have to play them a few times to see what they can really do.

Love the look of the models, still not sold on the faction.
Yea, I do like them, the head guy doesn’t look good. The big strider doesn’t do it for me either.
I have mixed feelings.
Very Matt of you. 😬

That could work. Makes a lot of sense.

Good review Coach, not into this faction personally but look forward to meeting them (honourbaly) in the Dead Zone 🥷
Oh man, you had to say Honorable! 😱
