I don’t hate melodic rap btw! Playboi Carti one of my favourite artists, but that’s just not my lane in terms of my voice and what i love to do… :(
Just release consistently and keep doing your style and you’ll find an audience. Niggas like I cole and Kendrick became famous off of it. But the thing is you gonna need some songs with hooks and that are catchy because a lyrical ass story song will not blow you up. The humble, she knows, and no role Modelz type songs are what are gonna get you way more attention. If you get what I mean.
@@jerichoRoman02 shit never thought of it like that! When I deep it, my favourite Cole songs (Apparently, No Role Modelz, She Knows, Rich Nigga etc) all have a catchy hook/melody! Even Kendrick stuff like Humble…so I’m guessing what you’ve made me realize is, I can get away with this style as long as there are repetitive and catchy motifs/elements/portions of the song - whether it’s a hook or bridge (but mainly hook) that stick to the listeners head! If it helps, i like lyrics over melodies too and I just write for fun on my free times. I found a balance on spitting lyrics on trap beats that are 4/5 min with a bit of melody. Yo can do that, use modern trap beats but spitting real lyrics. I think NF would be a good example
