Great video….. I think the culvert is huge due to the fact that Columbia County does get frequent flooding….. or at least pretty intense runoff during heavy rain. I am not an expert as I live in South Jersey, but I have been out there frequently enough to see those streams flow pretty heavily.
@@samanthab1923 I lived there from 1953 until 1965 and I remember some big snow storms but nothing like the rain we see today. I'm in Florida now and got to experience hurricane Michael in 2018. That's enough for me .
@@davestrang8585 Do you remember the big 55 Flood? That’s the one they always talk about. Love FLA but the older I get the heat is too much. Can’t imagine what the summers are like.
Hey Charles. Yeah it turns out there were a ton of bridges that the Reading just filled right over top off. Pretty darn amazing. There is another spot close to this one at Cranberry run that I'm curious to check out. I think it's the same scenario. Once a bridge but now a culvert.

I think that is an excellent point George.
Where in NJ? I grew up in Holmdel 👋
Pretty cool video Kevin. The history is outstanding 👍
Thank you Larry, always appreciate your kind words.
That’s a long tunnel man, way down below, great find
Thank you John!
We used to ride our snowmobiles through there.
That sounds pretty intense!
@@kevinsalsbury2118 certainly was. We rode through Shuman"s also. Anything left of the trestle on the other side?
Not that I saw.
That massive culvert was built for a one in a thousand year flood 🎉🎉🎉
Certainly seems that way Dave.
It’s crazy but in the time we’ve lived in PA we’ve had 3 Hundred year floods!

@@samanthab1923 no I was only 2. You're right the heat and humidity is terrible. Everyone carries a gun. Prices are high. I just stay to myself
Interesting...looks like that place gets a lot of ATV and dirt bike activity.
Tons of ATV riding going on here. There were a few out the day I recorded these videos. It helps keep the trail cleared and easy for me to walk.
This culvert was created after the Reading RR took down the bridge and filled the area in. Around 1918.

@kevinsalsbury2118 yes. They did several. I found an article in the P-E archives (local paper) that explains it.
Is this article available online?
